The Mississippi Department of Health issued the following statement.
The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) has issued a health alert warning the public about an increase in pertussis cases in the state. As of July 10, 80 cases have been reported so far this year, up from 49 for all of 2024. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported.
Also known as whooping cough, pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease that causes uncontrollable, violent coughs that make it hard to breathe. It most commonly affects infants and young children and can be fatal, especially in babies under 1 year old.
Most (76%) of this year’s cases have occurred in children less than 18 years of age, including seven cases in infants less than 2 months old. Of the 73 cases that were age-eligible for pertussis vaccination, 28 were not vaccinated. Among those unvaccinated, 23 were less than 18 years old. Of the 10 hospitalized, seven were children less than 2 years old. While cases have been reported statewide, 40% were identified in Northeast Mississippi.
Vaccination, one of the safest and most effective ways to protect against pertussis, is recommended for everyone. There are two types of combination vaccines that include protection against pertussis, as well as diphtheria and tetanus: DTaP and Tdap. DTaP is recommended for younger children, while Tdap is recommended for older children, pregnant women and adults.
Infants should receive DTaP vaccinations at 2, 4, and 6 months followed by two booster doses at 15 to 18 months and at 4 to 6 years. Pre-teens should receive Tdap at 11 to 12 years to boost their immunity. Pregnant women should receive a single dose of Tdap in the 27th – 36th week of pregnancy to help protect their newborns from pertussis during their first few months of life. Also, grandparents and other extended family/friends who may come in close contact with the infant should get booster shots to ensure they don’t unknowingly pass the disease on to the child. Although there is no routine recommendation for pertussis boosters, immunity wanes over time.
Pertussis is transmitted person-to-person through respiratory droplets or contact with airborne droplets. Patients are considered infectious from the onset of symptoms until three weeks after the start of high-pitched coughing fits, or until completing five days of antibiotics. Recommended treatment includes antibiotics within three weeks of cough onset in people 1 year of age and older, and within six weeks of cough onset in infants younger than 1 year old and pregnant women.
MSDH offers vaccinations to children and uninsured adults at county health departments. To make an appointment, visit https://msdh.ms.gov/pertussis or call (855) 767-0170. If you’re not sure about your child’s vaccination history, you can find their records by creating an account with the MyIR service, checking with your pediatrician or contacting the MSDH Immunization Office at (601) 576‑7751.

Wow no deaths and a good Chunk of those who had it were also vaccinated. So much for vaccines. Let your children’s immune system develop naturally people. No need for chemicals
Go walk through any cemetery that has a significant number of burials before 1900. Note the number of graves froor those under 20. Something changed. Vaccinations to prevent childhood disease, and public helath measure to control the spread of childhood disease.
"Let your children’s immune system develop naturally" = QUACK QUACK!
So, 62% of those who were vaccine eligible still contracted whooping cough, yet the MSDH’s advice is to “get vaccinated”??? You can’t make this s$$t up. The Governor should fire everyone at MSDH associated with that advice. My Lord what is wrong with our medical establishment?
Well RFK Jr is looking into these vaccines so we will hopefully get some insights from his studies. Maybe even see a correlation between them and other things that have been on the rise lately.
Gots to keep feeding the vaccine industrial complex, right big pharma?
@1214. Did you even read the press release? It literally points out that 45 of the 73 cases were vaccinated. But, guess what has also changed since the 1900s? There's this thing called modern medicine with modern treatments, so healthy people don't die from things like the whooping cough anymore.
There are always some ignorant people who do not understand that vaccination is not and never has been a 100% guarantee that you won't catch the disease. Vaccinations reduce the severity of the disease if you do catch it.
RFK, Jr is a joke.
RFK Jr. is a clown, as are the anti-vaccine hayseeds in this thread.
Never thought I’d see the day when the basically-eradicated diseases that ran rampant 100 years ago would re-emerge.
Also don’t know how anti-vax sentiment made the improbable leap from commune-living naturalists in California to gun-toting ignorant rednecks in the South. Strange bedfellows . . .
They're coming for handwashing next.
And pasteurization.
Maybe that self-proclaimed worm in RFK's brain will aid in the research.
Isn't there a new band, Roadkill Bobby And His Brain Worms?
On TikTok?
If there is not, there could be!
can you not read? a huge percentage of the cases were vaxxed. The vector is the flood of criminal illegal aliens permitted by the Biden administration. Over 30 million illegals allowed in by Biden. Most have not even bothered to show up to their asylum hearings. They are now ghosts on the run. And you democrats are fighting to protect them.
All brought to us by Biden's (handlers) open border policies.
Ding, ding! @147 and 148. freely import the 3rd world, get 3rd world diseases like measles and whooping cough outbreaks
So the vaxxed people who caught it assuredly had a milder case than they otherwise would have. They should be thankful. As should you.
I am not antivax at all, but I do think we give too many too close together to children. And that is worth at least looking into to see if we can do better. Also, this link is worth a read from one of the best investigative journalists in America. https://sharylattkisson.substack.com/p/new-vaccine-risk-vs-disease-risk
Some my childhood buds had anti vax parents. Two caught the Polio. I got vaccinated & didn't catch it. Life is Better because of modern medicine whether you believe it or not.
