Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
On Monday, November 11, 2024 approximately 3:18 am, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a phone call from a female complainant requesting a civil standby to obtain some personal items from an address on Loflin Rd in the Florence area after a domestic dispute.
While deputies were enroute to the residence, the female caller stated that the suspect, Jason Salter, had attempted to assault her with a chainsaw and carjacked her vehicle then fled the location in her silver Toyota Camry.
After a deputy spotted the carjacked vehicle, he attempted to conduct a traffic stop at which time the suspect failed to yield and a motor vehicle pursuit ensued. The Florence Police Department, Richland Police Department, and Pearl Police Department assisted as the vehicle traveled north to Hwy 80 then fled west into the City of Jackson.
After entering the City of Jackson, the Capitol Police Department was noticed and assisted.
After the successful use of spike strips the vehicle lost a tire and crashed at the intersection of Hwy 80 and Gallatin Street. After the crash the suspect resisted and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after the deployment of a taser.
The suspect was treated by medical personnel on scene then cleared and transported to the Rankin County Detention Center.
Jason Antonio Salter has been charged with Aggravated Domestic Violence, Carjacking, and Fleeing & Eluding. He is currently being held without bond until his initial appearance Rankin County Court.

Darn it, it's too late for him to join the "goon squad," or is it?
Nice work destroying her car
Too bad they destroyed her car.
Wipe that smile off your face thug. You're spending Christmas & New Years in the Po-Po.
Great job Police departments. You managed to tear up this person’s car.
a roach fleeing to a safe zone after the light switch is turned on
Really, they destroyed the car? He was the one that stole it, he was the one that ran, he was the one acting like a fool that required a taser, so he is the one that destroyed the car. He is responsible whether he has the means to pay for the damage or not. He is responsible people!
One more example of why shooting a fleeing felon should be legal.
He went after her with a chainsaw. A chainsaw. You really think she was worried about a car? A chainsaw.
Mississippi chainsaw massacre
I guess that once he fled in the car, she was free to get her stuff from the house. They had a 2nd problem. But, problem #1 was solved.
"...approximately 3:18 am..."
A clue! A clue! If you are moving or otherwise collecting some portion of your worldly belongings at 3:18 in the morning, the likelihood of a situation is...enhanced.
