A Hinds County grand jury indicted Jordan Cummins for two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Josh Spann and Auden "Jubilee" Simpkins on March 25, 2023. The indictment states:
on or about the 25th day of March, 2023, in the county aforesaid and within the jurisdiction of this Court, being a male human being above the age of eighteen (18) years, did willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously, with deliberate design to effect the death of Joshua Spann, a male human being, kill Joshua Spann, by shooting him with a firearm...The second count repeats the same language for the murder of Simpkins.
The two homicides took place on Jefferson Street just a few blocks away from the St. Paddy's Day Parade as floats rolled. Cummins is a Florence resident.
Cummins girlfriend disputed he was beating her on social media:
Kingfish note: Spann had a gun as well. Cummins claimed self defense in court appearances.

If he lawyers up, it'll be an interesting trial to say the least. Doubtful he can afford to lawyer up, though.
He's done for, as expensive lawyers say, "trials are won and lost during jury selection." Good luck getting a sympathetic jury in Hinds County. The court-appointed lawyer(s) he gets probably won't put much vigor into his defense. A plea deal, say for manslaughter and 25 years is likely his best hope.
That parade is extremely dangerous. As you know. This is a dangerous place for people from Irish families to attend.
Fastest indictment in Hinds County ever. He might as well plead guilty.
To be fair give him the same time given to the many Criminals that go thru the revolving doors in Hinds County Court system. 20 years be out in two then repeat, sound familiar!
Naw, I’ll bet they throw his ass away!!! Will be back on the streets as a very old man. And you know why! Blind Justice yea!
Rush to judgment.
If on the stand he recites the fact that he saw the man approaching him and feared for his life. That removes the possibility or pre-meditated murder.
And murder-1 will never survive as charged for the bystander who also died. Homicide but not murder-1. Involuntary manslaughter.
8:24 why can’t we have equal Justice in Hinds County “ fastest indictment ever” Now let’s get the backlog of individuals that haven’t been indicted that’s been sitting in jail way too long waiting for the DA to bring to a grand jury.
Just stay out of Jackson
I hope justice is served, and all the facts are exposed.
But having served on a murder jury in Hinds county many years ago, I would never EVER want my fate in the hands of that pool of jurors.
Basic definitions and concepts were lost on over half of them. I cannot explain what an eye opening and terrifying experience it was. I moved soon after, thankfully. But I told everyone I know, that I highly recommend never being involved in the judicial system there. Ever.
Praying for the Simpkins family. So tragic for Jubilee's life to be taken this way.
@ "If on the stand he recites the fact that he saw the man approaching him and feared for his life. That removes the possibility or (sic) pre-meditated murder."
The ALLEGED fact. If the jury doesn't believe his claim, he can still get premeditated murder.
Also, he has a public defender who has asked for a plea deal.
If you’re the type of asshole that beats your wife and then start shooting at people who try to intervene, then please do stay out of Jackson. We don’t want you here, and I’m sure that if you’re the type of person that you’re defending, then no suburb around here would want you either.

His girlfriend has stated he was not hitting or beating her. If you'd read the article you clicked on to comment, you'd know that.
One problem with social media is that 12:26 feels the convicted is a confirmed woman beater.
And 1:53 feels the gf's account that he was not hitting her is accurate.
Hence my comment that I hope there is a fair trial with competent jurors, lawyers and judge.
Though I fear that is unlikely in Hinds county.
Regardless, the innocent young lady that was killed is a tragedy no matter what.
So many lives ruined, senselessly. I highly recommend people make better choices when it comes to friends and party locations.
I see we have at least a couple of those failing 3rd grade readers here...
This case was probably acted upon quickly by using this man's white privilege. I could really see this working in Hinds County.
And “party locations”?
You act like anyone from Jackson was the bad actor here. They weren’t. This specific crime really could have very easily happened in his home county. It just happened to be in Jackson where bystanders attempted to intervene to protect the girl.
@12:06 - I'm not advocating for the accused; however, you might want to read up on the legal definition of 'pre-meditated'. I think it's a sloppy charge.
