A Madison County grand jury indicted Dowdy in September 2022 for aggravated trafficking in controlled substances, possession of meth with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute meth, possession of alprazolam with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute alprazolam, and possession of tetrahydrocannabol. The indictment alleges Dowdy was caught with 200 grams of meth, between 40 and 2,500 dosage units of alprazolam. and between 10 and 30 grams of tetrahydrocannabol. Dowdy is the son of former MBN Director John Dowdy.
The grand jury indicted Caleb Cartwright and Bardin Boyd with Dowdy on the third count, conspiracy to distribute meth (MDMA). Cartwright pleaded guilty. Circuit Judge Brad Mills sentenced him to serve 10 years in prison but suspended the sentence and placed him on supervised probation for five years. Boyd is Dowdy's uncle. He pleaded guilty to sell or distribute meth. Judge Mills sentenced Boyd to serve twenty years in prison (although it is a 25% crime.).
Dowdy stood up before Circuit Judge Brad Bills Monday and pleaded guilty to possession of more than ten but less than 30 grams of meth and conspiracy to sell, distribute, or transfer meth. The possession charge carries a prison sentence of 5-30 years while the conspiracy charge carries a term of 0-20 years.
Dowdy was busted in 2019 for trying to obtain drugs through a phony prescription in Byram. Byram police turned the case over to the Hinds County District Attorney in June 2020. However, Dowdy was allowed to enter the pre-trial diversion program and his record was expunged.
Dowdy's father and former MBN Director, John Dowdy, appeared in court along with his son's lawyer, John Collette. Multiple family members attended as well.
A sobbing former MBN Director begged Judge Mills for mercy towards his son. Speaking in a tear-choked voice, he said his son had an addiction and was nearly ruined by fentanyl. He said he was merely a mule (JJ's word) for his uncle, who operated an international drug ring.
Dowdy begged Judge Mills to place his son in a trusty program at a county jail. He said he had put many people in prison as an MBN Director and in his current job as a Pike County prosecutor. Thus he was fearful for his son's safety.
Judge Mills said he did not like putting people in jail but Dowdy the younger committed serious offenses. He will sentence Dowdy on or before June 26.
Kingfish note: Sissy? Here is why the term "sissy" is used.

Lock him up and throw away the key.
here in the hypocrisy capitol of the world....known as the state of mississippi, this one makes the top 5.
I agree that the youngster should be sentenced just like any other criminal. But to call Dowdy the Elder a hypocrite was uncalled for. Yes, as the MBN Director he was all for throwing the book at druggies. But he was not in court as the Director. He was in court as a father, and he did what most fathers would do - come to the defense of his child.
KF, it was and continues to be the elder Dowdy’s duty to send criminals to prison. With your credentials in the law you should recognize that pleading for mercy for his drug dealer son is in no way inconsistent with him performing his lawful duty as a public official to carry out the laws he is sworn to uphold.
@10:23 - The hypocrisy part is just you being upset with the facts. He wants strict punishment for drug offenders unless it’s his family getting punished. On top of that, he was caught stealing from taxpayers while in his official position. That’s pretty much the dictionary definition of hypocrisy. If he doesn’t want to be known as a hypocrite, he can fix that with his own actions.
@10:45 - what is the elder John Dowdy’s job now? Did he land in law enforcement again after having to resign from his position at MBN?
10:23: What you described is a shining example of hypocrisy.
10:45: He wasn't just carrying out the law. Dowdy's own crimes aside, he used his position to make drug addiction a moral and character issue, and now he's being force-fed humble pie.
@10:23 AM & 10:45 AM = Bleeding heart sob sisters
Fuck Dowdy Sr. Someone has to say it.
Uncle was a democrat congress critter in DC. What do you expect? Standards in the family?
So the Boyd boy gets 5 years before he can try for parole? His older brother (Dr. PITA) better hope the Dems get defeated because he is going to get some time in the hoosegow if they don't. That will have 2 of the 4 children doing a stretch. The nephew will get a good stretch as well. Look at the bright side they can load all 40+ children in the vans a make a day of the prison visits. Maybe all the judging of other people came back hard in Karma.
So he gets caught with 200 grams of meth and between 40 and 2,500 dosage units of Xanax, but only pleads guilty to possessing less than 30 grams of meth with intent to distribute. Why are plea deals like this accepted? What a blessing from the prosecution.
Special rules for special people; questions, see Hillary Clinton investigation.
What a sanctimonius P.O.S. Dowdy is.
Hope he reads these comments.
It's not too late for him to start turning is life around.
Applies to father and son.
Bet he gets a pass. Uncle Wayne will call in some markers.
Had dad not walked out on the family when the kids were little, his plea might be more creditable. He should have a long talk with the man in the mirror.

Hey Gomer - Please remind us what continuing duty Dowdy has to send criminals to prison.
Try not to let his resignation affect your answer.
Apple’s don’t fall too far from the tree!
May be he will get to be a trusty at Rankin 2 aka Simpson County and get a janitorial job like Pennington. Weekly lunch with the folks.
Wish Dowdy would express such concern for all the kids he walked away from. Agree with 3:45.
Sissy indeed.
A lot to unpack here.
First, can someone provide background into what he admitted in court? That his uncle ran an international drug ring? Is he uncle alive and convicted?
Second, I would hope Sr. takes some accountability into the type of father he was to his family and effects. Sadly, these things are usually multi-generational and look different across different family members.
Whatever happens with the outcome, I hope that Dowdy Sr. is transformed and he finally humanizes the complexity and pain behind the disease of addiction. That sure was not there in the past.
I believe the sentencing was supposed to be today. Any word on how it went?
