Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones issued the following statement two hours ago.
The HCSO is aware of a murder and carjacking that occurred on yesterday evening where a 2011 maroon Dodge Ram 1500 with a tan stripe, MS license plate SP14067 was taken in south Jackson.
The Jackson Police Department is currently working the investigation and there has not been any information publicly released by the agency to confirm any details surrounding the event.
However, we are and have been in communication in efforts to attempt to gather more details to assist with the investigation and we’ve been in contact with our federal partners whom are very actively and aggressively searching for the escapees. At this time, according to the information we’ve been given, a suspect has not been identified and no description of the suspect has been publicly released. There is speculation that one of the escapees could be possibly responsible for this incident being investigated by JPD, but that can’t be confirmed due to the lack of information being provided at this time.
The HCSO is still asking the public to call with any information regarding the whereabouts of any of the escapees and at this point we are asking the public to be on the lookout for the stolen truck being investigated by JPD. The occupant(s) should be considered armed and dangerous.
JPD issued the following statement.
On Monday April 24th at approximately 7:00pm Jackson Police Officers responded to an unknown trouble in the area on Frontage Road and Old Byram Road.
Once on scene, Officers noticed a black male subject lying face up in the roadway unresponsive. Upon further investigation, it was revealed the male subject pulled over on the side of the road to help a white male subject who appeared to had wrecked a motorcycle that he had stolen moments earlier.
The suspect shot the victim several times then stole his Red Dodge Ram 1500 truck (TAG: SP1 4067). The truck has tan trim and a Cowboys Sticker on the front and the back. Please proceed with caution when approaching this vehicle. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Based on information gathered from investigators, the suspect of the stolen motorcycle, the Red Dodge Ram 1500 and the Capital Murder fit the description of 22 year old Dylan Arrington, one of the escapees from the Hinds County Detention Center. The shooting occurred just before the Byram city limits. The vehicle was last seen heading south on I-55 in Terry. This suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

Kingfish note: Law enforcement sources say Terry police chased the vehicle last night. The driver of the stolen truck was "driving crazy" through Terry as he fled at high speeds and engaged in dangerous tactics such as driving through yards. Unaware of the homicide or carjacking, Terry police called off the chase.
The murder took place last night but JPD did not issue a statement until 11:45 AM today.

There is a special place for someone like this. Perhaps not in this life, but the next, for people who harm a Good Samaritan.
This makes me so angry.
figures as much. Nothing to see here just another typical day in Hinds county. Why in the world didn't JPD release info to surrounding law enforcement agencies. Could have had this idiot caught already.
If JPD had done their job correctly and issued a BOLO immediately, this guy would have been pursued and captured last night. But their incompetence is now putting more innocent people in danger.
None of this would have happened had we elected Marshand Crisler. He is a criminal justice juggernaut and corrections expert.
When someone drives like that to escape, it should be presumed that they are fleeing arrest for much more serious crimes.
The victim’s blood is on the sheriff’s hands for running a jail so lax that detainees apparently have little trouble escaping.
Channel ? could hire story writers more competent in grammar than:
"...on yesterday..." (yesterday & tomorrow are not compatible with use of "on", although days of the week and of the month require "on");
"... Federal partners whom are...searching..." (who is the correct subjective case, not objective case "whom", for this use);
"...who appeared to had wrecked a motorcycle... (to "have" wrecked, please).
Nevertheless, this 10X more info than most short shrifted crime reports, aye.
If only grammar mistakes were the key points to take away from this post, 2:24... Nonetheless, here is your gold star.
Where did this guy get a pistol after escaping jail?
1:58 p.m., it doesn't appear that's the case. Arrington has a history of auto theft arrests and one conviction, but nothing more violent than that.
When a head count is taken and inmates are missing, you know almost immediately who they are. The sheriff was selecting his words for the feds, i.e. full of BS.
2:51 PM. Oh I am pretty sure he had an extensive record, but being Jackson Ms. records seem to disappear
A supposedly liberal federal district judge ordered the Raymond jail to enter federal receivership. A supposedly conservative Fifth Circuit stayed his order. While the stay was in place, this happened--yet nobody is howling about all the GOP federal judges who don't care about law and order. If there is any such thing as intellectual honesty, critics of Democratic judges ought to be pointing the finger at the Trumpist Fifth Circuit right now. But they never will.
Fast tracking these individuals through the justice system and public executions would go a long way in stopping this stuff.
@3:07 PM. Amen, 100%!
@ 3:07 I'm sure if the order had not been stayed the race card would have been played and was probably being played just as they are with HB #102O.
I'm curious do you support HB #1020 ?
@2:50 PM - Mostly likely out of an unlocked pickup containing an un-secured firearm owned by an irresponsible lazy MFing Hinds County resident.
3:07 - You don't know what you claim to know.
#1 - It was a 3 judge panel. The POTUS's that nominated them were W. Bush, Obama, and Trump.
#2 - It is a "per curiam" decision which means the panel doesn't disclose how the judges voted. It was at least 2 - 1, but may have been 3 - 0.
#3 - Both Hinds county and the U.S. DOJ appealed.
#4 - U.S.DOJ told Reeves that there were 1 issue that needed clarification and one issue, concerning arrested juveniles, had not been litigated. The order had already been appealed and Reeves no longer had jurisdiction.
#5 - The 5th circuit judges had no choice but to remand it back to Reeves to rule on those 2 issues which were not considered in his order.
The outcome of the U.S. DOJ's appeal was never in doubt. The 5th circuit gave Reeves a January 31, 2023 deadline to complete the proceeding and make any modifications to his order. Then it goes back to 5th circuit for appeal and they gave no indication of how the 5th would eventually rule.
@5:12
The 5th Circuit "had no choice"? Please. The 5th Circuit does not have to stay a damn thing it does not want to stay. How many thousands of cases have proceeded without needed clarification from the district judge or every issue cleanly adjudicated? Sorry -- how many tens of thousands? And why in this case is a stay necessary in the face of presumptively correct findings that public safety is at risk under the status quo? Because it's Judge Reeves -- that's why. Everybody knows it, so let's everybody go ahead and say it.
Anyway, my comment was about the intellectually dishonest spin these incidents always pick up. If a supposedly liberal judge or liberal panel had stayed a supposedly conservative judge's order, the coverage of this murder on this and other right-wing outlets would have been vastly different. That does not mean I personally think the 5th Circuit *should* be blamed for anything here. It means this crime would be discussed in a much, much different way.
If somebody rants and raves about Hinds County judges setting bonds too low or letting defendants go free without contextualizing each case they way you just did, then surely they must be hyperventilating about the 5th Circuit here. Why aren't they?
2:51, What about escaping from jail?
Please note, I didn't use the word "violent," you did. I said "it should be presumed that they are fleeing arrest for much more serious crimes."

2;51. He was driving erratic in Terry because he had shot/killed the owner of the truck when he stole it. Justified to continue pursuit in my opinion, if they had been properly notified.
I do want to know why Tyree is getting a pass on claiming the jail is understaffed but at a recent Hinds BOS meeting he got them to approve taking 10 positions away from detention to add elsewhere in the department. Really funny to be taking money away from the jails when it is apparently needed there.
@1:36
Reading between the lines, one interpretation was that JPD didn’t share intel. Looks like other folks see it that way or know from additional info. The Good Samaritan would be alive if Terry PD had known about the murder&carjacking. What on earth would be JPD’s justification? Antar’s micro-management?
My had. The chase was after the murder. So now my question becomes why Terry PD called off a chase of a driver going through yards? Would TPD have had access to info about truck being stolen, or was that JPD’s secret?
