The lawsuits against the Greater Jackson Arts Council are starting to pile up. Local videographer Jake Slinkard seeks a default judgement against the organization for damages after Executive Director Silbrina Wright allegedly broke a one-year contract with him for media production services. The plaintiff filed the lawsuit on November 15, 2022 in Hinds County Circuit Court.
The complaint claims GJAC hired Slinkard to provide media production services. The videographer agreed to provide the organization to six half-days of production for $2,400 per month. Mr. Slinkard provided his the media production from May to October 2022. GJAC paid Mr. Slinkard per the terms of the contract from May to July 2022.
Managing Director Jon Salem was Mr. Slinkard's "primary contract" at GJAC. However, Executive Director Silbrina Wright fired the Managing Director in August 2022. She allegedly told the videographer his August payment was being processed and he would be paid "soon." GJAC finally paid him in September but only for the September invoice. He claims he was not paid in August, October, or November. Mr. Slinkard contacted numerous times about his payments but Ms. Wright blocked both of his phone numbers.
The lawsuit charges the Greater Jackson Arts Council with Breach of Express Warranty and Breach of the Covenant of Good Faith and Fair Dealing. The plaintiff sued for actual and compensatory damages as well as attorney's fees.
He filed suit on November 15, 2022. The summons was returned on December 5. However, the Greater Jackson Arts Council never responded to the lawsuit. Mr. Slinkard applied for default on December 30, 2022. The clerk entered the default on January 12, 2023. The plaintiff filed a motion for default judgment the same day. The motion seeks $57,600 in damages.
A hearing was held Monday but the outcome is not known. The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Adrienne Wooten. Attorney Jacks Simpson of Langston & Lott represents Jake Slinkard.
The lawsuit is the second filed in the last six months against the Greater Jackson Arts Council. Mr. Salem sued the organization in March for wrongful termination that took place when he allegedly discovered substantial financial mismanagement by Ms. Wright. Earlier post.

Who appointed her to this position? Our current mayor?
This woman needs to go to prison.
Digusting.
Grifters will grift-
The Board failed. Badly. With just a little due diligence they would have easily discovered that Silbrina Wright would be a mistake. But none of that mattered because Wright was pushed on GJAC by Lumumba.

She was hired by her co-conspirator who had full knowledge of her criminal background.
This is simply another example of "You all been doin' this for years. Now it's our turn".
The videos are the ONLY professional-looking part of the GJAC website. Pay the guy!!! I hope he gets every penny he's owed.
Has anyone found a current listing of Board members available anywhere? I noticed they removed that info from their website. How is this woman still the executive director and where is their funding coming from??
Board president and hot-shot lawyer Julian Miller has a lot to answer for.
@9:49, it wouldn't be the first time Ladd and her minions have prominently puffed someone who was already a scam artist.

She will not be held accountable and no one expects her to be. She wont even apologize.
She'll probably have Lumumba and co hold a presser to discuss the racism and oppression that caused her to steal.
It is their turn and only tax payers will be punished.
The show will go on, indefinitely.
Silbrina Wright, who assumed the executive director position earlier this month, joined GJAC in 2019 as Community Outreach Manager. A seasoned fundraiser and leader across nonprofit, government, and private sectors, she studied business administration at Belhaven University, served as executive director for the Mississippi Conference of Black Mayors, and was recently tapped by Tougaloo College to be a grant consultant for the Bennie G. Thompson Delta Leadership Initiative.
If memory serves correct, didn’t Bloomenthal or some other NYC person do a press release next to the Governor’s mansion with Lumumba being awarded a big grant or investment for the COJ? What doesn’t Mayor do a National press release about this? Right?
Who hires these people? https://www.wlbt.com/story/12417049/former-charity-employee-in-court-on-embezzlement-charges/
Heard anything about this mess from Franklin? Of course not.
I certainly dont want to come across ignorant or supportive of the GJAC, but how did the plaintiff come up with that dollar amount? Fortunately, I have not had to use a lawyer so the fees associated are unbeknownst to me. HOWEVER... The man lost 3 months of revenue which would only be a small portion of what he is suing for.So if you take into consideration those 3 months, plus what he would have made had the contract played out correctly....This means that the attorney fee was $36,000?
1:14. All Franklin wants to do is be a "victim" and bitch.
@1:15 - Think a portion of that is for punitive damages, which I assume his attorney advised seeking. The complaint also mentions mental anguish and costs associated with searching for replacement work, which sounds legitimate given the crook he was dealing with.
The total doesn't appear unreasonable to me given the circumstances but I'm no lawyer (or judge) and not sure what the norm is for punitive damages in a case like this. I would hope at a minimum he receives enough to make him whole for the 1-year term of the contract, plus attorneys fees and other costs incurred.
Let me get this straight, the board president for this outfit, Julian Miller, is an ATTORNEY, yet they are embroiled in two embarrassing lawsuits and in this case, ignored everything and are looking at a default that includes all requested damages. Do I have this right? If so, can someone please show me proof of law school? Thank you for any assistance.
What type of organization is this? Public, private or nonprofit?
Non Profit, of course. And the reality of a non-profit is that the only one(s) who makes a profit is the owner-operator or CEO.
I’m gettin mines…
I guess Julian Miller was too busy getting fired from the three Jackson law firms he purportedly worked for to properly attend to board business.
If the State Auditor doesn’t investigate this OR the current mayor of Jackson then we know he is spineless or either paid off. I’m thinking both because some people are scared to be called racists when actually upholding the law says different.
If you Google Julian Miller, you'll see that he's all over the internet trying to make like he still works at big firms in Jackson. LMAO. He's got a desk at Tougaloo and a cubicle at Southern Poverty. Is there a Mrs. Miller who can help him organize all these lawsuit papers? Probably not. LMAO.
Jake, just let Silbrina take you to Disney World with her next time and call it Even Steven
6:35 — I’d hardly call Shad White “spineless.” His office has responded more quickly than any other. They’re onto GJAC.
Who is Franklin?
10:28. A self-promoting, unemployed, "look at me" podcast jock that is eternally pissed off at the white man, and ungrateful for the government grants he gets (paid for by the employed) to run his empty mouth all day. First name: Brad. Juvenile nickname: Kamikaze.
Looks like Silbrina Wright is surrounded.
