Call it the equity gouge. But, really, this is nothing more than a special tax.
Rents are going up all over Jackson!
Anyone who thinks Lumumba can actually manage this administrative lift needs to put down Melvin's bong and get sober.
I always find it amazing that the very people who complain about the need for affordable housing are the very people who create the inability to offer affordable housing. They live in some sort of dreamland where they will force landlords to offer premium and hyper compliant housing at affordable prices.
Every rental in west jackson will fail inspection
If they don’t….the bribes are working
Glad they are trying. A few decades late, but glad they are trying.
Look slum lords, your free ride is over. Everyone knows you raise the rent with the rent market without maintaining the property.
Make the place livable or tear it down.
There will be lots and lots of gift cards delivered to the office of home inspectors.
This is only the “legal” and public facing side of this ordinance. It’s really just a shakedown of landlords to pay off hissoner grifter behind closed doors. Palms will be greased, business will continue as usual.
all the code enforcers are getting new cars-
This is written like garbage. It has a "local agent" definition, but no explanation of why it is needed or requirement that the owner have a local agent. I shouldn't have expected anything less.
It seems that it only so that the City could hire more employees and buying a new fleet of cars for those employees.
If they redrafted the ordinance, it should allow for an owner who lives within a 20-30 mile radius who owns less than 50 (or less) rental properties to be exempt from requiring a local agent. Allow that owner to make the decision to hire someone else to deal with the headache of a phone call.
It absolutely astounds me how hard Jackson’s royalty works to run off tax paying people and companies.
Crack houses not included.
Only sure thing this plan delivers is a reduced supply of rental housing. Artificially constricted supply = higher rents.
The city that ran the water system into the ground now thinks they can adequately manage rentals. Interesting.
Requiring a legal representative to live in jackson is likely unconstitutional
I wouldn’t worry about this draft going into effect as it’s written.
All this does is it gives the deadbeat renters an excuse for not paying their rent. You know, there is a leak, the grass is not cut,the roof leaks, the neighbors dog barks too much, etc.
Chowke is on track to "Free the Land," especially in NE Jackson.
To an existing rent currently managed directly by an owner, add 10% for an agent fee and 10% for city bureaucracy fee.
Our marxist Lil Choke is so tearfully caring for poor blacks, he's gonna hike their rents 20%.
I think the Jackson city schools should be closed one day soon as a show of support for new rental rate rules.
Water should be free, it’s a basic human right, like air, housing, food, healthcare, cell phones, marijuana, education…what’s wrong with you capitalist, always wanting to pay for shit that should be free!
Producers of wealth, including hospitals, are not leveraging their power against this little commie mayor, who wants their assets.
This is just another shakedown of THE MAN. Baby Chok knows this will disproportionately benefit his constituents, so they can feel free to trash their apartments and be assured they'll be repaired on a schedule after having done so.
How many properties do you think will pass on the first (or maybe even second) inspection? Whatcha gon do?
Section 8 vouchers will need a 20% bump. Right?
C'mon Chuck. Why didn't you go all the way to rent control?
Consistent with the mayor's overreach, he might want to demand all transactions between private parties for private business be conducted through a "local agent", merely because some aspect of that business is subject to some kind of government rules, as virtually all private businesses are.
1:13....free water is and always has been available. Just get your bucket and go to the reservoir, Pearl River, Town Creek or any of a number of sources of free water. If, however, your want it to be clean, safe and delivered to your home, you have some mechanism to make it thus. I doubt, however, you will be able to find those ancillary services for your "free water".
If this doesn't pass Chowke will veto the non-passage. Right?
The only thing leftist can do in the name of equality is raise prices for the poor. It happens with taxes food rentals etc.
Yep...Chokwe, the younger, is right on track with the syllabus written by Chokwe, the elder. It's unfolding nicely.
The more free services, food, water, clothing, transportation, etc. you give people, the less chance that they will not become dependent on these freebies and be transformed into lazy, dependent, wards of the state! It is not fair for those footing the bill, and it certainly not fair to those becoming dependent on those free services.
Free the rents!
Attn 8:04 Thanks for your comments, but they are about 20 years too late.
The Rent Is Too Damn High!
11:38 gets me.
I am shocked how hard they actively work to make every tax payer leave.
Imagine if they worked that hard at the real issues in Jackson.
Can't properly free the land if people with a brain still live there I guess.
