The city of Jackson issued the following statement.
Here’s an update on where we are with the City of Jackson’s Water System:
- Pressures at plants have largely recovered.
- We anticipate pressure recovery to the full system Saturday into Sunday. We will sample remaining areas and should have results Sunday/Monday.
- More water is needed in the system to ultimately fill tanks - that happens over time. We need to put out more than normal for a period of time to make up for all the loses during the freeze. We anticipate seeing the tanks begin to fill tonight.
- Lifting the Boil Water Notice is dependent on two factors - pressure at the meters and passing the required bacteria testing. All connections need to have 20 psi pressure before we can lift the city-wide order, however, we can begin lifting the order in areas where pressure has been recovered (by zip code). Once pressure is recovered at the meters we sample for bacteria and have to wait 24 hours for results.
- Yesterday we sampled the well system and one zip code on the surface water system. If results come back today clear - we will be able to lift the BWN in those areas.
- We are testing pressure in other parts of the surface water system today. If pressures are above 20 psi we will sample those areas as well and should have testing results tomorrow.
- Weather is not helping - hard to sample in rain and dangerous lightning - should be better later today.

First Saturday, then Sunday, then Monday.
Any bets that the boiler water notice won't be canceled until Wednesday?
Lawd, its a CAL mirarcle!
Why is it hard to test water in the rain? Where do the people in north east Jackson (you know, the ones paying the taxes) get their water?
I told yall on the previous post it would not be clear by Saturday. They do not have water still in South Jackson and in Byram and it takes several days for the testing. They will be lucky to have it done by next Saturday.
I thought everyone knew his name is lying Lumumba for a reason!!!
I expect the boil water notices to soon be lifted for all parts of the City with the exception of NE Jackson.
Nearly fainted into my coffee this A.M as WLBT allowed an street interview from a citizen to say on air "The mayor is lying. This water stuff is not getting better. I don't trust him to fix this mess at all".
Not that it matters what she or any voter really thinks.
I will never drink that water no matter what Jackson says.
I’m surprised there wasn’t blame placed on the severe thunderstorm that dumped a whole 1.5” of rain coupled with the warmer than normal temps we are experiencing.
I'm so glad Mayor Lumumba is in charge again. At least we have competent and fair management now. Just imagine the level of environmental racism if the state was still in charge.
South Jackson Residents still have no water. I have never seen anyone so careless. It also seems this new federal person is clueless also. They can't even find the leaks. All of this could have been prevented.
When did Northside Drive at Manhattan Rd become "Northwest Jackson" ?
That intersection was traditionally considered just "North Jackson" ...
Not really (Northeast or Northwest Jackson).
However, it doesn't matter these days.
Those residents also have little to no water as well ... plus the same amount of lead flying through the air.
I wonder if PhD Omari or lying Lumumba even read this blog? Kingfish any insight on that
He's quoting someone. He has no idea what the problem is, how long it will take to correct it or what the corrective measures are. Why not give credit to the person who wrote the report for him - the people with boots on the ground? The Clown is pretending to be involved and knowledgeable and 3/4 of you imbeciles are buying that.
Look Lumumba is not capable of giving someone else credit. He’s a narcissist and it’s a mental disorder.
The Mayor's ego is impressive. Even after repeated failures and being bailed-out by both the State and the Feds, he fends off embarrassment and clings to the opportunity to be able to announce some kind of positive breakthrough to which he can be loosely associated.
