The only thing standing between Jackson and $600 million to shore up its water system is President Joe Biden's signature.
The $1.7 omnibus spending bill passed the House of Representatives yesterday. It passed the Senate Thursday. President Biden is expected to sign the measure.

Woo hoo. Free money for the set aside companies
Well good, I suppose.
Who will watch the spending of these funds?
Congratulations! Great news for Jackson residents. Thanks to all who made this a reality. People deserve clean water.
It may be crazy but being the "most radical city" has just paid off. In ten years many other cities will wish they had positioned themselves to get this money. By then, it will be too late, no more gubment money.
Is this money for the water mains or for OB Curtis?
Surely there will be some sort of oversight on the spending of these funds. I can just see a huge waste on the way if there is not.
12:55. I like to thing people get the government they deserve.
The money will be spent by the guy getting $400k per year per the federal courts in the BS consent agreement---right? The same guy who came up with the bright idea to bill based on how much the house is worth rather than how much water you use, how big it is, how many people live there, etc. Right?
In other words, a few things will be fixed (probably things that didn't need to be fixed) and the rest will be pissed away on "administrative costs." We'll all be called racists, and Jackson will have its hand out again in a few years.
The only thing standing between Jackson getting $600 million in repairs to the water system is the $550 million in grifting and embezzlement about to occur.
12:57 for the win. Being radical enough to trash the city has paid off handsomely for Lil Chokwe. If - and this is the big IF - the projects are properly managed and the work of decent quality then the COJ of the 10-15 years in the future might actually be competitive.
A functioning future also assumes the State will have largely taken charge via some change in form of government as the actual infrastructure work is done.
On the other hand, this IS Mississippi. We could blow $600m and not have shit to show for it.
Drops in a huge bucket. Jackson's debts,the remaining infrastructure needs, and the lawsuits damages will still put Jackson into bankruptcy and receivership.
Our enemies overseas are looking at this deficit spending and getting OFF the US Dollar $. Most of our enemies are trading now in the Chinese Yuan.
Thank God Shelby received 848 million for Alabama and 1.5 milliopn went for a Michelle Obama hiking trail. Great news indeed!
As a Jackson resident, I am not confident about current management fixing the water system despite endless money. I am only confident that the mayors Allie’s will enjoy lucrative contracts to do things they are in no way qualified for.
The Mayor and his band of grifters got the Christmas present they dreamed of. Of course by March they will be screaming racism because Federal Procurement laws will apply to the money. Hopefully the EPA will keep both Jackson and the State from selecting a program manger for this work.
@1:56
Right! All good points
Wait…Grizzell said we need 2 Bil
I will vote for anyone but Roger Wicker next time even if it’s a democrat. At least the democrat is honest about who he is and what he believes. I voted for Wicker because I thought he was what he said he was, a republican.
Wonder if the water bills will be collected in a timely manner once the funds are spent.
Once the third-party manager finishes up, OBC will deteriorate and fail again under Chowke's third-world management. But about that time the Chief Grifter Chowke will have moved on to other Marxist ventures. Right?
Definition of insanity: re-electing Chowke and expecting different results.
Good. It’s about time Bennie and wicker playing the game paid off
EPA has control of $$$ & will select 3rd party(s) to manage projects.
Project cost over-runs in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...
“On the other hand, this IS Mississippi. We could blow $600m and not have shit to show for it.”, don't worry about shit to show for it. The Jackson sewer leaks will see that we have plenty of shit to show.
At least Cindy cancelled out Wicker's vote!
"...and 1.5 milliopn went for a Michelle Obama hiking trail. Great news indeed!"
Moochelle must have attended the Mayor Mary seminar on 'How To Fund Sidewalks and Hiking Trails'.
I'm glad the money is being spent in the U.S., instead of overseas, but how long until the U.S. is declared insolvent. The interest is projected to be 1/2 a Trillion dollars next year alone.

"People deserve clean water."
They deserve all the clean water they are willing to pay for themselves.
Pork for Christmas!
Love seeing the ignorance from the Jackson hater crowd. The whole point of this money is the third party manager. Jackson officials won’t be able to touch it. Check the facts before you spout off, losers.
Imagine being pissed of that others might get better water service.
I’ll pray for y’all. It’s obviously needed.
@9:05, Imagine being pissed that people intentionally wrecked their own water system in order to force me to pay to fix it.
Actually the point is that the Federales are going to see what they can accomplish now that the incompetent mayor has been sidelined.
@10:58 PM
Cool it with the racism and antisemitism. I’m not at all surprised that Kingfish approved your comment. He is nothing if not King of the racists!
11:08 Despite the fact there was zero racism or anti-Semitism in 10:58's post, liberals can't help but demonize anyone who dares to disagree with the chosen narrative of fiction.
Please tell me how any enterprise that refuses to bill for services rendered is not responsible for its own demise?
@1:31
Please take your meds and stop peddling GRU funded conspiracy theories.
11:08 - While you obviously discount the white folk who live in the city, do you even KNOW the meaning of antisemitism?
December 26, 2022 at 4:48 AM, what the hell do the "Minion" movies have to do with conspiracy theories?
@3:45 Roger Wicker won't run again, he will retire before his term expires and Michael Guest will be appointed to serve his remaining term. Guest is a Rino clone. Remember how cackling Cindy Hyde-Smith got to the Senate? The GOP appoints Rinos, then the sheeple re-elect them at the ballot rather than electing any person who doesn't have GOP $$$ backing them. Our votes are meaningless until the sheeple wake up. Don't vote Democrat, primary out the incumbent!!
