Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his weekly briefing right now. The press conference is streamed below.
* A National Weather Service representative said temperatures will remain below freezing for from Thursday to Monday. The chances are low for precipitation.
* Water Manager Ted Henefin addressed the challenges the water system will face this weekend. He said he is more confident about the water treatment plants than he was two weeks ago thanks to the efforts of Jacobs Engineering. Pipes will be more susceptible to problems. Five crews will be ready to fix pipes. The city only had four crews in the 2020 ice storm.
Mr. Henefin said the microscreens that failed in 2020 have been "fully repaired." There are "very experienced operators from all over the country, including cold climates" are staffing the O.B. Curtis water treatment plant. The structures housing the membrane and chemicals are heated now at 62 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lil Choke's recent Jokeway stand up routine seems to indicate he expects to lose at MS Supreme Court ruling on his (nonexistent) right to veto a no-vote, and says this will cause Jackson to lose garbage pickup and that he, Lil Choke, has acted only to get Jackson the best contract for the least cost.
Which is raw, steaming, cow flop, trying to cover his 100% responsibility for ineptitude. WM had the lower price in last RFP for twice weekly service with no cart.
He has refused to prepare another RFP, as requested by WM and City Council, precisely because WM can beat Richard's in quality and cost of service.
I will say this about Richard's. At least their guys dump the whole garbage can into the truck. Waste Management people were real bad about just opening the lid, grabbing the tied up garbage bag, and leaving the rest of the trash in the can. Had to put the garbage bag at the bottom of the can and the other trash on top just so they would dump it. Richard's peeps dumps it no matter what.
Glad you psyched out issue, KF. I like the way WM showed up dependably for years, whereas Richard's has skipped my street until next day, twice in six months.
Thank you KF, for at least being halfway honest that WM wasn't flawless in their delivery of services, unlike so many of the critics on this site.
In terms of showing up when they are supposed to, WM had RD beat although there has not been an issue of absenteeism on my street for a couple of months. Yeah, I know.
1:44 I don't think anyone is wearing WM t shirts and claiming them as a fan favorite.
Intelligent people just vehemently oppose Chuck's I-Know-Best-So-I-Don't-Have-To-Follow-Rules dictatorship. The lies are comical and nonsensical and his fans believe him.
My god I miss the days of common sense when folks didn't blindly cheer for D or R with no mind of their own. Chuck is NOT looking out for Jackson. But dear God, they deserve him.
KF, they may totally empty you cans - they do mine as well, but so did WM.
My complaint about Richard's is that they don't get all the garbage into the truck. Many times I find part of my garbage laying on the street after they leave. Not much, mind you most times, but still has to be picked up off the street so they can try again when (if) they come back.
And because I don't put my can out every time (yes, I'm one of those folks that would be fine with once a week pickup, but thats another subject) they oftentimes skip my can, even though they get my neighbor's which is directly across the street.
And if Lil Chock doesn't want to believe it's true about his NOLA boys, because I'm white and he's quick to question the source of those who look like ne , I've got pictures of both issues: trash in the street and my full can on an otherwise emptied street.
While were commenting on Richards's: Has anyone else noticed the trucks leaking all over the street? There is a trail of grease, paint and who-knows-what liquid throughout my neighborhood. It's even hard to walk the dog because he is continually stopping to sniff and lick - it looks disgusting AND it smells...
1:27 - WM's proposal for twice a week without a cart was the highest rated for that category. It was not the cheapest. Richard's was the cheapest. KF- You should repost the score sheet from that RFP. I always see confusion on this in the comments as well as from some of the local news stations.
Can Chokwe please have his barber shorten his beard? It looks awful!
When the Sups rule against him Lumumba is, in advance, telling Jackson that he does not intend to fulfill the obligations of his job.
But what else is new?
Why is it that I expect to here, Live from New York, It's Saturday Night Live, at the end of his press conferences?
3:27 nailed it.
He basically said, my plan is the only plan and if the Supremes don't agree y'all can figure it out on your own.
Real team player, than one. For the good of the people and not at all self serving.
Hell, I applaud his honesty and his recognition that he could get elected no matter what he says.
KF, not on my street in NEJ! Much of the trash does Not make it into the truck and there are days when the trash hasn't been picked up as scheduled.
These weekly updates might as well be Kevin Bacon screaming "all is well" on repeat.
