Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement.
"I am heartbroken by the violence that occurred in Jackson this weekend. The perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions and I mourn with the victims and their families.
Our needs in Jackson are many and I am currently at a conference to address infrastructure issues cities like Jackson face and find contemporary solutions to climate change which affected much of the South during the Winter crisis of 2021.
I am out of town, but I remain in contact with JPD.
I want residents to know my administration has been working on a comprehensive approach to address the scourge of violent crime in Jackson.
We are working closely with Hinds County to make essential upgrades and improvements to the court and detainment process where a backlog in cases and a federal consent decree has prevented justice from being carried out in many cases.
I also want to make it clear that our officers – at the risk to their own lives - are doing everything they can to make arrests and investigate cases. We understand their immense value and commitment to public safety. That is why as we continue to hold recruitment classes to bolster our police department, find ways to pay our officers better and establish a Real-Time Crime Center to fill the gap.
For those who experience this trauma all too often, these words might sound hollow. It is precisely for that reason I am working behind the scenes to address a badly broken system.
It is unacceptable. The work must continue."
Kingfish note: Interpersonal? Maybe, but bullets don't ask if there is a relationship when they start flying. They just strike wherever they go. Those innocent neighbors on Sedgwick probably appreciated the shooters and victims knew each other as they dove to the floor.

Aka: You still need to vote me back in next election.
Vote this huckster out
Well I'm sure everyone will sleep better tonight after these reassuring words.
There is absolutely nothing he can contribute or learn from an infrastructure “conference” (boondoggle.)
He is not an engineer. He has run two engineers off with his shuck’n’jive charlatan routine.
"Remain calm, all is well."

"Climate change" is responsible for this perception of seven murders over the weekend, right?
Wait, I thought it was Covid-19, right? Open carry? Gun shows? Right?
But wasn't that "Real-time Crime Center" up and running 12-18 months ago? Right?
Working behind the scenes? Heh, that's a nice way of saying he isn't doing a thing except using city money to go to seminars about "climate change" and such. Just what exactly is this fool going to do about "climate change" beyond stinking things up with Richard's trucks?
Isn't all of Capital Street full of cameras. Why can't the Jackson poo-poo monitor these cameras & dispatch officers at the 1st hint of gunfire?
How does a federal consent decree mandating that the County provide a constitutionally compliant jail “prevent[ing] justice from being carried out?” More misdirection, more lies, more “I” and “my administration” BS.
Maybe Justice isn’t carried out because Antar has more executive protection officers than detectives. Didn’t the City have its own crime lab under Danks, Kane and Harvey? What happened to that? How about paying UMMC psychs to prioritize mental health requests (often used as a delay tactic). C’mon Antar, you are supposed to be progressive.
When you are an empty suit it doesn't matter whether you are in the office or out of town.
Projection @ rate = 139 murders in Jackson YE 2022.
So now this jackwagon is gonna blame climate change?
Get this clown out of office.
Blame it on a federal consent decree for the local jail and a backlog of cases. Total BS. I doubt any gang members are going to a crisis intervention center to learn conflict resolution.
This clown will get re-elected as many times as he wants, his constituents love the anarchy, you just get to watch the show.
In the land if the blind, the one eyed man is king.
Chump Chuck
He stands behind his police officers, unless they get in a life-or-death gunfight with killers
At which time they will be severely punished.
@10:11 you beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing.
Pick your excuse:
1. Suburbs/white flight
2. Surrounding police forces chasing criminals back to Jackson
3. Gov Reeves
4. State government
5. Trump
6. federal govt
7. gun shows
8. previous mayors
9. administrative error
10. climate change
11. Perception of crime
12. Institutionalized racism
13. Environmental racism
14. Just a perception
There are no contemporary solutions to climate change. Even if there were it has no relation to crime. He is a fool.
out of town. He is in the airport every time I fly. Even the mayor ain’t sticking around.
I'm heartbroken too that he's the mayor.
it's time for .true the vote" to do n investigation into the lumumba and bennie thompson elections....they are the two biggest political embarrassments in this state!
Always out of town. Word on the street is he got kicked out of home too.
@6:57
Do you mean The Bold Mayor is flying commercial with the plebs? I am literally SHOCKED that he doesn’t fly on a private/chartered Gulfstream G6 on the taxpayer dime!
The perception of heartbroken...
If he’s heartbroken why is Ross Adams (a news reporter) out filming empty shell casings on Capitol Street. The mayor appoints the Chief of Police. Pick up your cell phone and call your employee and say I want them in handcuffs on camera by the 5:00 news or you’re fired. Also send some detectives to detect the surveillance footage and shell casings. If your current chief can’t figure it out-hire Ross Adams-he seems to understand the importance of casings, surveillance and canvassing the scene.
We spent so must time talk about one person the Mayor. What about the citizens who living in Jackson citizen are the ones who are killing each other not Mayor vote him out okay. You still have the same problem if we as community have to take a look at ourselves if blame the Mayor make you day the feel better okay leadership do matter but people who care about the city matter to.
The Earth is 4.3 Billion years old. The "climate" has been changing for 4.3 Billion years. It will change for the next 4.3 Billion years, too. The Earth's axis rotates and slightly changes through time. As a result, the Earth's climate, in fact, does change. It's constantly changing. Human existence is a gnat's fart, in relation to the age of the Earth. One point that the climate change freaks need to learn is that weather is not climate.
More shooting around 3:12 yesterday over in the general area of Sedgewick. Not sure if it's the new police shooting range at JFC or someone using pistols to shoot buffalo gnats, but 5-6 shots, followed by 5-6 shots of what sounded like 2 different handguns.
I have lived all over the world and this guy is the worst of the worst. When I left Jackson during the Davis days thing were going pretty good. Boy not now! My message is get out now.
We are committed to opening a crisis intervention office to address the root causes of violent crime before it occurs, the result of $700,000 in funding from the Wells Fargo Foundation. The data is clear: These incidents are almost all interpersonal and occur among individuals who know one another and have access to high-powered semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines.
So, this "crisis intervention office" is going to "find" the root causes of violent crime before it happens when the regular po-po can't even find the actual violent crimes or those who commit it after the fact?
Check this,Jetting Climate Priest: gaseous emissions from busted sewers, from decomposing bullet riddled corpses, from rotting moldy city owned real estate and an endless stream of crap from out your mouth.
Lot of gas you putting down, Lil Choke. This climate needs a real mayor, let's hire Aaron Banks to wash your wretched miasma outta Jackson.
Close the zoo.
Stay out of town-permanently.
Harvard called. They want your award back.
@7:47
Yep. The petrified forrest, the whale skeleton in the Natural History Museum, plus the shells and shark teeth you can find in any Metro quarry, betrays that Mississippi was once under water. The sea levels rise and fall and landmasses move. Sometimes we have rapid tectonic displacement during an Extinction Level Event such as a Polar Shift. The film 2012 portrayed this.
And not only does Earth have a procession on its axis, but the our Solar System itself has a procession through the Milky Way Galaxy. When the Solar System enters an energetic region of the Milky Way, which it currently has, we find energetic cosmic radiation and galactic magnetic anomalies that cause all manner of geomagnetic as well we geothermal phenomena on our planet, as well as our neighbors.
There’s no human carbon emissions on Mars or her moons, yet they are warming too.
Where was this halfwit child “educated”?
People like Thomas Sowell have very clearly explained why Jackson is the way it is. He has clearly defined and laid out why so few African-Americans have attained success and achieved sustained wealth. It has nothing to do with racism or racial inferiority. However, the culture did originate with whites from the British Isles and is still widespread in whites in Mississippi. It is why Mississippi is dead last. That culture is “cracker” or “redneck” culture. And both majority of Southern whites and Blacks retain this failed culture of immorality to this day. Just look at the corruption of the white leaders of this state. Lazy ass crackers trying to grift a quick buck.
"The perpetrators will be held accountable". Not they won't. All words, no action.
Maybe he should let the Mayors that have their shit together worry about climate change. If we let that clown meddle with climate change policies, the world will probably incinerate in about 2 years.
When do the people of Jackson realize this doesn't work? Lumumba is a clown, his appointees and/or hires are clowns. If you want less crime and better infrastructure you better elect better leaders and they need to put better employees in position to move things forward.
7:46. Can you spell "run on sentence", JPS grad?
Wait, now the consent decree is preventing justice from being carried out?
I thought the problem was because of those damn concrete and granite statues?
Here's Jackson mayor's response. The ESG reply. Great. Wokeism has real consequences. First off it gives politicians yet another talking point to avoid legitimate urgent issues like murder/crime.
"Our needs in Jackson are many and I am currently at a conference to address infrastructure issues cities like Jackson face and find contemporary solutions to climate change which affected much of the South during the Winter crisis of 2021."
So...a big round of applause to all those who continue to vote for and believe in this crap. Great job. Truly.
Is Chokwe saying that global warming is over and we are now heading into an ice age?
Pay me $700,000 to determine the root cause of all these murders. Dude gets mad, picks up gun and shoots the person he/she is mad at.
@7:47 AMEN!!! climate change is a hoax. The climate will always change. Men can NOT stop it, nor do we have any effect on it. It is a money making scam.
@8:53 AM said…

You made me laugh and choke on my blueberry BelVita!
Typed by his aid as he was getting his Hotlanta LAP dANCE at duh clut ? Out of town again.....and I didn't know someone has died from Sunday nights shooting. This goofy SOB needs more than just impeachment.
The only solution to this is an upbringing in a stable, nurturing home environment---which means there is no solution.
Wasn't it Tiberius and Caligula that lived on the Isle of Capri but ran Rome from a distance?
I just want the Chucky supports to tell me how much they are happy with the clown show they elected.
The fact that many are STILL drinking this fool's Kool-Aid is beyond comprehension, and proof that this cannot be fixed.
Jackson is an absolute joke.
I would just like to say that some of the comments on this here board are hilarious, and I sincerely thank you, one and all, for brightening my day.
@10:01
Chuck don’t know you, so you ain’t makin no money. Too bad.
For a mayor who is so concerned with combating climate change, I don't recall him mentioning that as a consideration when fighting about the garbage contract... WM seems to actually be doing something in this department, whereas the only "Green" initiative the Richard's website points to is their recycling services (which are of course not provided in Jackson).
"By the end of 2020, 53% of WM’s collection fleet had been transitioned to compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, avoiding the use of millions of gallons of diesel fuel per year and comprising the largest heavy-duty natural gas fleet of its kind in North America. Over half of our CNG vehicles use dairy or landfill biogas, including gas captured from our own landfills. In California, Oregon and Washington, 100% of our natural gas fleet runs on RNG.
For every diesel-powered truck we replace with natural gas, we reduce our annual fuel use by an average of 8,000 gallons, an equivalent of 14 metric tons of GHG. CNG vehicles are quieter than diesel trucks and emit nearly zero particulate emissions, which helps improve air quality.
WM has invested $2.5 billion in CNG vehicles, and an additional $550 million in fueling infrastructure. Our goal is to create a near-zero-emissions fleet fueled almost entirely with renewable fuel. With these efforts in mind, WM is working toward a science-based target to cut fleet emissions by 45% by 2038, against a 2010 baseline. We are well on our way to achieving this goal, having already reduced collection and support fleet emissions by 43%. We’ve achieved these reductions through logistical efficiencies, transitioning to natural gas vehicles, and by increasing our use of renewable fuel." - https://sustainability.wm.com/climate-change/fleet-emissions
"we practice EARTH CARE for ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABILITY
Our goal is to provide unparalleled distributed solid waste and sanitation services and solutions. Along with the great efforts of the city sanitation team, we are happy to be a part of the recycling movement. Increased recycling helps convert today's recyclables such as plastic, aluminum, steel, corrugated cardboard and newspaper into sustainable sources for tomorrow's production. With great effort, the recycling revolution proportionately reduces consumer cost and increases billions of tons in valuable resources." - http://www.richardsdisposal.com/we-are-green
10:13 is that supposed to be an insult?
I cannot think of a higher compliment than being accused of having no personal relationship with that moron.
@7:47 AM - Exactly. The inconvenient truth in a nutshell. It would be a very boring earth if the climate didn't change.
Remember the left's threat/panic of an ice age back in the 80s?
Create a crisis; don't let it go to waste.
Heartbroken? That would imply he loves Jackson and his people. However, he loves neither. He prefers spending time outside of the city, in the company of Mike Bloomberg types.
“Crestfallen” would be a more accurate description of his emotions.
"I am currently at a conference to address infrastructure issues and find contemporary solutions (is there any other kind?) to climate change which affected much of the South during the Winter crisis of 2021."
Maybe this conference is in Sweden which explains why he sounds as if he's high as a kite.
PS: The problems of Winter 2021 ain't had shit to do with climate change.
"Leading from behind"
@10:14
Although most in Jackson want WM back doing their dependable, courteous best here, note that WM is a National outfit, so claims are out of scale compared to Richard's, which could be called "Little Richard's" at this shrunken juncture in their collapsing trash profile.
Lil Choke, our own Climate Emperor, facilitated this sewer event, per WLBT:
"Nearly 45 million gallons of untreated wastewater was released into the environment in a four-month period due to Jackson’s sewer failures, according to the latest quarterly report the city submitted to the EPA.
"The report covers the period from December 1 through March 21. Jackson must submit regular reports to the federal regulatory agency as part of its sewer consent decree.
The latest quarterly report was submitted on April 30 and covers sanitary sewer overflows, or SSOs, that occurred in late winter 2021 and early spring 2022.
During that time, 259 sewer overflows were reported in the capital city, which released more than 44.7 million gallons of sewer into the environment."
“That’s enough to fill 100 Olympic-sized pools with raw sewage” said a Pearl River expert to Jackson City Council.
Make sure David Lewis and the arts society have some cash! Maybe they can fund climate change!
Put "strategies to end gang violence" in your search engine.
Ask yourselves why neither the State nor our city council aggressively implemented any of them.
See our gun laws. You wanted unrestricted gun ownership and now you have it.
You don't care about experience or qualifications when it comes to judges or magistrates or forensics or the coroners but you sure bitch when their ignorance allows criminals to get loose.
You don't care what other States have done to prevent the corruption we see here.
You only care about which party and with judges, enough party buzz words tells you all you need to know.
Not one of you had a suggestion for what the mayor could have done to prevent what happened. Nor do you have any acknowledgement of how a mayor's authority has been diluted in this State.
You hate what happened. Look in the mirror. Some of us that look for solutions instead of name calling like a 5 year old or bitching like the worst gossips in town, just pray one day, you'll be a problem solver instead troublemaker.
Dear Karen @ 12:31 pm:
Maybe you've got an income riding tail on Lil Choke's 'radical' gravy train, aye? Several of above comments correctly identified new mayor, new leadership and new administration hires as the core issue to fix Jackson.
Your comment is blind enough to float on a sewer outburst and call it surfing.
12:31 said "Nor do you have any acknowledgement of how a mayor's authority has been diluted in this State."
So Lumumba just needs more power, right?
POS
First. I am a citizen of Jackson. All this crime is senseless. Second. some of those businesses on Capitol Street need to be shut down permanently. The downtown area is a business district. The hotels are the place to go for drinks and after hour atmosphere. Third, who approved these businesses to set-up shop downtown. There was never a problem before until these places appeared. Fourth, the Mayor is correct it’s climate change and until the citizens make a change and VOTE this is going to be our climate . Fifth, isn’t it funny you can’t see or hear from some of our leaders until Monday or Tuesday when was the last time they held a press conferences at the time these offenses occur. When I’in charge you are in charge 24 hours a day and seven days a week . Your job doesn’t stop on Friday Thru Sunday , you get no weekend pass, when you are a leader. Sixth what happened to transparency and sitting at the table and listening to the needs of the citizens . It seems as though lately the conversations are one sided. It’s one way or the highway the powers that be are not listening to the citizens at all . People of Jackson let your voices be heard at the ballot box. Are you ready for a change I Am.
Typical hoax by the biggest hoaxer ever elected. No different than the incompetence running Washington DC right now. And of course @8:40 it’s always whiteys fault!!
Anyone still have a copy of the old computer game SimCity? Can we loan it to The Mighty High Mayor to learn about governing a city and it’s infrastructure??
12:31 : My 15 year old, a couple years ago, came home with a AR and a 22 mag pistol. He sure as hell didn't get it from the gun show ! When asked he claimed he traded his damn X-BOX for them ! Our teenagers..black white and other are simply living in a bubble this world has created for them. No conscience....no give a fugs. WE can't fix it because THEY don't give two squats what WE think. Period.
The narcissist boy mayor is "heartbroken," but what about the families and friends of the victims, right?
May 10, 2022 at 8:40 AM -- Jim Crowe laws died almost 60 years ago! The ongoing reliance on racism as an issue is perpetuated by politicians, the media, and the victimhood class. The corruption in politics is rampant and colorblind, as is the applied description of "lazy ass". Let's move on, shall we?
@9:49 AM - Right on, with Baby Chowke leading the pack.
