Campbell's Bakery announced it is for sale on Facebook this morning:
What an honor it is to be a part of your lives. To be there for births, deaths, weddings, funerals, and everything in between, birthdays and celebrations of all shapes and sizes. Such an honor.Three years ago my wife was offered a job in Baton Rouge. At that time I had two bakeries and was opening a new restaurant. Over the past couple of years many things have changed including our reasons to not move. We have prayed and prayed about it and finally made the decision to accept the job offer. My family and I will be moving to Baton Rouge this summer and I am looking to sell Campbell’s Bakery. This was not an easy decision nor a quick one, rather it is something we have prayed about daily for a full year. It is exciting. It is scary. It is a new adventure for all of us.As far as Campbell’s Bakery goes don’t worry, I won’t be selling it to anyone who doesn’t understand what it is all about, and I won’t sell to anyone without restaurant experience. If you know someone who fits the bill, send them my way.

Another victim of Dr. Fauci and Bill Gates who are clearly behind the Covid 19 outbreak. This may be the one thing we now have clear evidence on. Wasn't Trump...wasn't Biden. These two created it and convinced the world it was gonna kill us all. Can't blame either of the old guys for being caught up in the lie.
There really is no future for the USA. We are experiencing the slow burn down of late-stage capitalism. There is absolutely nothing to look forward too except consumption. No reason at all to be optimistic about the future. The next generation are all already failures and will be entirely dependent on the state as part of the plan.
The Globohomo Multicult of Woke will burn everything to the ground so that everyone is equally miserable. Meanwhile in Asia, they are trying to rebuild the prosperity of America in the 1950s without a suffering a class of freeloaders and mentally ill guys in drag grooming children at libraries.
He is being very gracious to leave out the part that crime/violence was the major part of the decision to sell/move.
Get out now- while you can!
Right, the Baton Rouge job is such an irresistible draw. It's certainly not the fallback option after the consequences of believing you could lead with your politics and not have any consequences to your business. My sympathy goes to last year's GoFundMe contributors who offered support because they didn't know any better.
Is it just me or is it really hard to get behind someone's opinion... wrong or right... if they can't use correct grammar to explain it?
Robert St. John could buy it if he wants to. Who knows if he does.
1:06 : Yep.
The first two posts are from the same person, and if you found yourself nodding along in agreement, you are spending WAY too much time on the internet.
It's a bakery. They make cookies. We're going to be ok.
If only he had installed more cameras.
He said that his wife got job offered. Just put words in the man mouth if was because of crime let him tell his story.
Great investment for a 3rd gen heir to spend GrandPa's money on social justice baked goods and edibles. They already have the rainbow tie dye shirts. Just need to put up the trans flag and some cannabis leaf decor and sponsor BLM mansion fundraising drives. The Millsaps crowd will howl to the sky in joy in their furry outfits. Till the inevitable carjackings, daily car burglaries, and lawsuits from misgendering a gingerbread person.
Caveat Emptor!
3 years ago his wife was offered a job and they just now accepted it? what kind of employer will wait 3 years while you decide to accept their job or not?

From which Mike do you get your news? Flynn, or Lindell?
Mitchell worked his butt off and his product is excellent. His cheesecakes are world-class and those teacakes are legend. But, Fondren, like Jackson, is changing and not for the better. The new demographics don't support a bakery. Robert St. John nailed it when he started serving cute colorful, sweeet drinks with umbrellas. It fits the market. I'm not a Jackson hater, but being realistic. Times have changed and if you can't accept it, then it's time to pack up. My prayers go out to Mitchell and his family. I wish them well with a new start.
I'm thinking if they sold Daiquiris with Donuts and changed the name to "HODO's" it just might survive.
"He is being very gracious to leave out the part that crime/violence was the major part of the decision to sell/move."
Baton Rouge is just as bad, if not worse! LOL!!
The guy wants to sell the business. He's not going publicize that there's a crime problem.
It would be like the realtor trying to sell your house admitting there's a meth lab next door.
Hope somebody takes it over because those tea cookies are special. And hope they are willing to operate it at normal retail hours where those of us who work can actually buy their products.
Baton Rouge is a major upgrade. LSU is there and over a million live in the area. 2x the people of our area. and i would bet that crime in BR is numerically less than JXN
Was he personally experiencing crime at his location but was too woke to speak out about it? I never heard about Campbell's experiencing any crime...
3:02 nailed it for me.
Staying open later on weekdays would have been helpful for us working folks.
Wish them well though.
Seeing a lot of posts from people who probably don't live in Jackson. Campbell's was ok, La Brioche across the street produced better pastries IMO. Guy had a failed donut place up the road that was at best mediocre. Crime didn't drive him out, there just wasn't anything exceptional about his business to keep droves of people coming. I've also heard he's a dick in personal relations which probably didn't help his case.
Crime in Baton Rouge is just as bad as Jackson as it is setting records each year for the last few years.
He ruined it with his left-wing politics.
I have never read so many comments on Kingfish that appear to be by people that have spent no significant time in Jackson.
1) I agree, who gets 3 years to accept a job?
2) His Belhaven location sucked. The food was pretty bad.
3) I’ve been told the Fonden location was better before he owned it.
4) This is the same guy that blamed COVID for his Belhaven location sucking.
5) Jackson is currently more dangerous than BR. Up to a few years ago they were probably about the same if I were to guess.
He mixed his politics with his business. Major mistake.
Good friggin' riddance.
Plenty of similar and superior sans the sanctimony.
Succumbed.
There is Crime in baton Rouge it might even be worse, but he will be so much more prosperous in Baton Rouge, all he has to do is learn how to make a King Cake and purple and gold pastries. I am headed down there too this summer I will let you guys know where he pops up.
My advice for the next owner would be to not tell me what your political beliefs are. If the product is good, I’ll buy it. If I know your political beliefs are the opposite of mine, I will not go out of my way to do business with you. Anytime you interject your political beliefs you are likely alienating 50% of your customer base.
2:11 : Bill Gates is doing his little tour right now. Just listen to him talk and the truth is revealed. Hey man, be a sheep if you like but there is no need to insult me.
"Baton Rouge is a major upgrade. LSU is there and over a million live in the area. 2x the people of our area. and i would bet that crime in BR is numerically less than JXN"
There are also already a number of amazing bakeries there that puts Campbell's to shame to say the least. Good luck trying to a 9-5 bakery job in that environment like he did there.
I can see him on Government street already hooray.
Baton Rouge has a thriving downtown, an effective city government, and a judicial system that works. Jackson, on the other hand, ...
He will not sell to anyone who doesn't understand the business or doesn't have experience?
REALLY?
Anybody else would (Que up The Steve Miller Band) TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN !!
Go woke, go broke
Hoity toity Jacktown can keep your world-class cheesecake and tea cakes. I'm content staying more safe out in Rankin while indulging in fried pies from Tom's.
The problem isn’t Jackson, it’s him. His Madison location went bust in the blink of an eye, remember? Belhaven donut place, too, in the same location District Donuts is thriving with a superior product.
Jackson needs a complete reboot, but it’s not the reason for his failure. Neither is a job offered “three years ago” to his wife in BR.
All he needs to find the real problem is a mirror.
"Anytime you interject your political beliefs you are likely alienating 50% of your customer base."
Who is this wanabee consultant who actually believes Jackson's (or The Fondren's) politics is split down the middle?
As an aside, anybody who would choose Jackson over Baton Rouge has got to be nucking futs.
He make that bouidin king cake, I'll be there me.
Ignorant dude to espouse politics in a small business... unless you're a tattoo artist or a gun dealer.
I quit supporting him when I saw how hateful he was towards the political party that he chose not to support. The dude clearly has issues. How can you be so filled with hate towards a political party that you risk your business and family’s livelihood to throw so weak ‘gotcha’s’ all over social media?
If he is a left winger then he should go out of business.

THE STORM IS COMING. Q SAID SO. AND TRUMP & JFK JR WILL BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE SOON. ALSO, EATING HORSE PASTE CURES COVID.
KF, you're correct about Baton Rouge crime. Friends have moved south to Ascension Parish because of it.
"Plenty of similar and superior sans the sanctimony.
Succumbed. "
Pat attention, students - Nine words with five of them beginning with an "S". Can you say alliteration, boy and girls? I like the way you say that.
See - we can have education at home, even during a pandemic (returning soon to a neighborhood like yours).
"Anytime you interject your political beliefs you are likely alienating 50% of your customer base."
Sorry for the abrupt switch from English to Business 101 but we have a lot of missed schooling to catch up 'round these parts.....
Crime is up in Baton Rouge, but it is up in Birmingham, Shreveport, Monroe, you name a city with generational poverty and bad schools and the crime is up.
But no way is Baton Rouge close to as dangerous as Jackson. Baton Rouge had 121 murders with a city population of 227,000 and Jackson had 155 murders with a city population of 160,000. No comparison.
The Baton Rouge MSA is about 870k compared to Jackson's 600k. And the stuff going on downtown is unheard of in Baton Rouge. Quality of life in Baton Rouge blows Jackson away, whether you are talking about Jackson proper, or Jackson plus the burbs. Its an actual college town with plenty to do.
May 9, 2022 at 1:03 PM "Another victim of Dr. Fauci and Bill Gates who are clearly behind the Covid 19 outbreak..."
HAHAHAAAAAAAAHAHAHAAAAAA! Your tin foil hat is too tight!
And Covid wasn't the main cause of failure of the business expansion.
I have always loved Campbell's Bakery's deliciousness, but I must say, Mitchell has gotten very arrogant lately, ridiculing people for daring to try to place an order when it is clearly a holiday where he will already be busy - "It's Easter week, this is a Bakery, do you really think that we can do your special order this weekend? Use your brains people." And people who used someone else then dared to ask him to bail them out when it fell through, saying "you reap what you sow" and to use a professional. If he were so professional, he could've handled the extra load of a holiday and jumped to the rescue in an emergency. At the very least, he could be polite and tell people to please consider using him another time.
Hey Kingfish - if you would be so kind,
"The Baton Rouge MSA is about 870k compared to Jackson's 600k. And the stuff going on downtown is unheard of in Baton Rouge. Quality of life in Baton Rouge blows Jackson away, whether you are talking about Jackson proper, or Jackson plus the burbs. Its an actual college town with plenty to do."
First - you people in the surrounding burbs are pure comedy!? You guys are so quick to relish over what other places have going on, but when it comes to your own backyard (the Jackson Metro Area) - you bitch and moan on how shitty it is!? This place is what you freakin make it.
Second what the hell is Jackson, if Baton Rouge is a "college town"
You have Jackson State, Millsaps, Belhaven, Tougaloo, MC School of Law, and University Medical Center, and you can go ahead and throw in Mississippi College for measure.
Once again, Jacksons' current condition is a problem - but there are measures you people in the surrounding burbs could take to try and get a person elected to Mayor, that would make you people a whole lot more comfortable with working on improving the city.
2:29 - Name one.
OK, I get it. The guy's an asshole. But, whether you're passing through Senatobia or Pachuta and a donut shop with a microwave and Bear Claws has a flashing light...I be stoppin'!
And, no, 2:29...by no modern standards is Jackson considered a 'college town'.
Damn I liked 1:04’s comment. Could t have said it better myself. We as a nation are sunk. I feel sorry for my kids and grandkids.
Exactly what sort of influence does 2:29 think our suburb voices will have over your elections?
So we burbs are gonna fund a conservative mayoral candidate with plans to actually collect water bills, be tough on crime and end the bloated JPS salary structure...and Jackson voters will suddenly want these things?
Surely, I that is not your plan.
I don't know how any candidate can make neglectful worthless parents raise decent children, which is the societal root of Jackson's problems that nobody will ever admit.
Kingfish if you can be so kind, again...........
@ May 10, 2022 at 3:24 PM
"2:29 - Name one."
How do you think Richard M. Daley was able to get elected in Chicago, he had suburban dollars pushing his campaign. Jackson residents have reached the point, the black ones could care less about the person's race, but at the same token if it's going to be a white person that's going to run and win - they can't be a bigot.
Matt Allen can get elected with a heavy dose of campaign signage, TV commercials, and can build off his loyalty to the city. If he runs, you guys could give him the financial boost to see it through to the finish line. There is nothing saying the mayoral candidates of Jackson cannot receive donations from residents of the surrounding areas.
@2;:29 says “ you people in the surrounding burbs are pure comedy!? You guys are so quick to relish over what other places have going on, but when it comes to your own backyard (the Jackson Metro Area) - you bitch and moan on how shitty it is!? This place is what you freakin make it.”
Us people in the suburbs have tried to make Jackson better. They don’t want whitey’s help. Good lord, we have bent over backwards to try and make it better. They call us names, rob us, or blame us for their problems when we try and help make Jackson better. Everyone in the suburbs wants to make Jackson better. It’s the Jackson citizens who don’t want to make Jackson better.
8:02 = Facts
He can have any politics he wants. He favors all when it comes to business, however. He was the only business in downtown Fondren to allow the abortion clinic protesters to use the bathroom and buy without a frown. He is in the happy business as he says. I guess he is really a libertarian instead of a lefty.
He had only one full recipe from the original Campbells, the tea cake. All the squares, cookies, and cakes were his own. So he has a valuable business and I hope he can sell it for at least $75k.
Guess I never considered a Liberal that made and sold donuts. Probably wouldn't be too good for my diebeetus.
I doubt I've been inside a bakery like Campbell's, within the last quarter-century - half my life. In fact, the old Campbell's may have been my last foray into such a place. Most of the offerings were made from combinations of flour, sugar, and 'PUFA oils'. In other words, most of the product was obesogenic POISON.
In the short term, consuming those cakes and cookies could be expected to (and did) instantly give me and the kids episodes of dysglycemia: scary rides on the Emotional Roller-coaster. (DH, zealously guarding his washboard abs, wisely abstained) Long-term, with regular consumption of a bakery's scrumptious treats, those PUFAs would have kicked-in, as would have Fatty Liver Disease from the fructose in the sugar,to make our family fat, sick, and ugly - this, for people living in a milieu where physical beauty is requisite for success, and a brain not clouded by dysglycemia is requisite for getting top grades.
So, who, today, consumes the output of such bakeries? Welfare recipients love sweets, but surely buy them from cheaper venues. Then, there are affluent breeders buying sugary poisons for children's parties. But such people live, now, in exurbs far from Fondren. That leaves the young-and-foolish: young-and-foolish people bankrolled by their parents, mostly (such people, by the way, are prone to extremes of Liberalism, which they subsequently outgrow). Are there enough of those, remaining in Jackson, to keep such a place going?
