JXN Fest is to be no more. Festival organizers announced a few minutes ago on Facebook:
The fest was to be feted at Butts Bark on McRaven Road.
Simply put, these clowns didn't know what the hell they were doing. The festival was going to be nothing short of a major fiasco thanks to a lack of preparation and planning. Why, you ask? Let us count the ways.
* The bridge is out on McRaven Road and has been out for several years. Yes, the Mayor announced this festival several months ago knowing the McRaven Road from Jackson was not a viable route to the festival. That meant.....
* Traffic would either go down Hwy 18 to Siwell Road OR traveling down the more convenient Springridge Road in Clinton to McRaven Road in Clinton. Jackson expected 30,000 people to attend the festival. Think of all that traffic coming down the narrow, two-lane Siwell Road. Speaking of Clinton....
* No one from Jackson or the festival met with Clinton. There was no traffic plan because no one talked to Clinton. There was no security plan involving Clinton police. Speaking of security....
* The city nor the promoter contacted the Hinds County Sheriff or Clinton Police Department about providing security for the event. WAPT reported the promoter would hire private security.
* The park is a complete wreck. I drove through it today. The roads are narrow and except for one section, in very poor shape. The fields are not the best for parking.
* The festival was scheduled to end at 1 AM. Yes, you read that correctly. Just what the neighbors want to hear at midnight.
* The promoter did not go before the Special Events Committee until Wednesday this week.
The Mayor shot off his mouth during the zoo fight about having events at the Zoo. Well, this event would have been better suited for Livingston Park. The park is by the interstate. The area once used for Zoo Blues would have been suitable. There is a splash pad for kids. Paved parking. Four-lane roads provide easier access. Smith-Wills could have been used as well but hey, let's stick the festival in a crappy, run-down park that has no access from Jackson. The cancellation is probably for the best.

I dunno KF. The McRaven Road location would provide easy access to the Ferris Wheel at Metro-Center.
Lately you’ve been picking very politically correct ways to convey that the mayor and his brain trust are imbeciles.
Who funded the salaries of the "employees who worked for months"?
I imagine no one wants to be at a festival where people can shoot into the crowd with no concern of arrest, either.
Meanwhile, every event that takes place in Madison and Rankin counties are a complete success!
Funny what is possible when your leadership is competent and your citizens know how to behave themselves!
Calling Jackson government a clown show is an insult to clowns…..
Now it's just a perception of a festival, right?
The WLBT story ended with "organizers say you can send an email to contact@jxnmusicgroup.com regarding refunds." Good luck with that.
Those of us who enjoy the bike trails and history to be found at Butts Park are not sad about this cancellation, in spite of the lack of road maintenance. Knowing it's a city park, though, we're pleasantly surprised they fixed the bridge over the creek.
Who would attend ANYTHING in Jackson? I won't even stop for gas.
Wait, Kingfish please remind me where this was supposed to be?
all those poor Madison residents having to travel into Jackson to attend a HS graduation
I don’t think a concert would’ve disturbed the area, there’s always the sound of cars doing burnouts and gunfire on most nights
Never heard of it so I looked it up. a site called tickefairy.com (yes--it exists. found on a google search) has them for 160 a day. only heard of a handful of local music types on there..must be a lot of rap acts.
its our own fyre festival! except they cancelled before bringing people to an island with no food, rustic tents, and no musical acts on a janky plane..
Remembers when jubilee jam was held downtown and wonders where that went
The real reason is they do not want to get caught in the crossfire of the hoodlums that roam the streets in the mayors safe city.
This promoter and his festival are the latest example of the term,
"Fly by Night". Check your dictionary.
Anyone familiar with Butts Park knows one thing for sure . You DON'T leave the paved "roads" or you WILL be stuck and it doesn't matter what time of the year it is. Lol, kinda knew this would be canceled.
I saw the list of "entertainers". Most I'd never heard of, and the those I have heard of, I wouldn't walk across the street to listen to.
it's being moved to a new venue at 6810 I-55 South Frontage Road
Why couldn't 'they' just combine it with the Black Rodeo and put 'The Hat' in charge of security?
Damn! This heavy heart is uncomfortable. When is Miller Time?
Next up...With heavy heart, Chokwe announces there will be no pipe laying.
So Tribal Fest is no more!
probably not nearly the advanced ticket sales to make it financially viable..easier to cancel than to have to cough up dough.
Maybe they just noticed there are no lights out there. Kinda hard to go til 1:00am with no lights. And the bridge on the entrance road washes out during heavy rain. But it’s a wonderful park to walk or ride a bike. They used to host large crowds for soccer tournaments there but most of the fields have been abandoned by the city.
The park is infested with yoots of all hues doing god knows what damn near every night. No patrols.
If "gun free zone" signs were placed at all entrances there would be no shootings at all, right?
The rent-a-cops would just stand around while Jackistan thugs broke into cars, carjacked, and robbed people, right?
Parking lot lights? We don't need no stinkin' parking lot lights, right?
Nothing good ever happens on McRaven Road, 24/7/365.
What would the over /under been on the body count if it had been held?
Kind of like Woodstock with the gunfire.
I thought it odd that WAPT couldn't find the organizer to interview for its report last night, especially since the reporter highlighted big gaps in the security plan. Instead, the reporter spoke with the park's golf instructor. Looking around open fields with no performance stage, no parking, no lighting, he said things have a way of working themselves out once large crowds arrive. Good luck with that. Plans sounded sketchy only a week in advance.
10:08, the gates are locked at nightfall so how would you know?
10:39 ? Number one....they JUST started locking the gates about a month ago. Number two.....there are other ways into the park. I know because I have offspring who they themselves have been there. They were scolded and no longer go.
Do people still fly RC aircraft at this park? I remember visiting a few “air shows” there in the early 1990s.
10:39 thinks the person stating there are possible ne'er-do-wells in the park after hours is the problem.
Mississippi.
Where the perception of crime is the real problem, according to far too many.
The letter above is quite the self serving verbose flatulence. It's typical, pornographic Lumumbating to a salacious level of self stroking, often seen in his Boil Water Notices and rants to the Council and press.
Well we have the worst mayor ever in History of Jackson (yes even Frank Melton). 87% of the vote last election. But ewlectorate is very loyal and will vote democrat until they are not needed anymore. But why try something different. 60 years and nadda
11:40 : Prolly the one who was responsible for closing and locking it to begin with. I lived across the street from the park a few years ago and it was a steady stream of traffic well into the night. I myself got locked in there back in middle 90's. I was pissing around the range after they closed...when I looked up the gate was closed and locked. Lol.
How do I get my refund?
They need to be honest.. ticket sales were horrible!
A win for the saltines boyz
11:40 yes the model airplane club still flies out there.
Yes, they lock the gates and have since the 90s. But that’s assuming the person locking the gates doesn’t quit or forget to show up. It’s hit or miss if it gets locked, but I’d say 80% of the time they lock it at nightfall. I’ve been walking a dog out there for 30 years.
1:38. you aren’t getting a refund. probably a few of the artists on that list have cancellation clauses and will still get some money. (most probably don’t).
a week out and there were no stages built, no temporary lights starting to arrive, no markers for parking areas/food areas/portable restrooms, no traffic plan, no security plan, and they were expecting 30k?
no offense, but it’s clear to me that they never intended to hold this. take advanced ticket sales, cancel artists, keep the rest of the money.
Sarcastic Grammar Rant: I see the use of "First Annual" everywhere and it grinds my gears. It is not "annual" if it has never happened before. "Inaugural" is the correct term for these events.
Disclaimer: I have terrible grammar, so this is a speck and log-in-the-eye situation.
