The Belhaven Bunker

The Greater Belhaven Neighborhood Foundation issued the following statement to its members.

The Greater Belhaven Neighborhood Foundation has been meeting routinely for months to discuss ideas and topics as they relate to the security and safety of our neighborhood. We have identified these key strategies:

  • Security Cameras: Each Blue Light camera installed costs about $6,000. These cameras are tied into the Jackson Real-Time Command Center. The software at this Command Center is vitally important to the success of this program.
  • Road closures: This requires permission from the City. A temporary road closure would cost approximately $5,000 per location. A more permanent and formal road closure could cost approximately $20,000-$25,000 per location.
  • Self-reported Incident Reports: Build into our website a method to allow neighbors to submit an Incident Report so that we can internally collect data on types of crime, dates of occurrence, and any other relevant facts surrounding the incident. This would provide us all with more data and could help us identify trends or repeat offenders. We could then assist law enforcement with solving cases or prosecution of criminals.
  • Form a Neighborhood Watch
  • Routinely meet with leaders in our adjacent neighborhoods (Midtown/Mount Helm/East Fortification) to discuss ways to address the increase in criminal activity

We need your feedback to determine the best next steps.  Please click the Survey button to take a short survey. (Not included - KF)

Taxing themselves so dope smoking cops can watch them get robbed on camera. Madness.

Belhaven doesn't have a neighborhood watch? wow.

So much liberal white cope! Y’all just stay right there and turn Belhaven into a mini fortified Johannesburg!
Next you are going to install flame throwers on your cars just like the white Sud Afrikaans did in the 1990s!

Anonymous said...

Wonder what roads they would like closed.

Anonymous said...

Installing the cameras and tying them to JPD is one thing. Having someone competent in-place at the Jackson Real-Time Command Center to monitor the cameras and take action, is another.

Anonymous said...

Form the City of Belhaven. Use Buckhead template

Anonymous said...

Neighborhood incidence reports to track crime because the incidence reports that the city has are not usable. Got it

Anonymous said...

We need to dead end several entrances into the neighborhood. Deadens them by curb and landscaping just like they did in Fondren off frontage to stop all the St. Andrews traffic .

Anonymous said...

How many families live in these projected areas? How much will each resident be charged (taxed)? How many $6000.00 cameras are projected?

Anonymous said...

$20-$25K for a street closure barricade? Has Belhaven learned nothing from their future as predicted in Mad Max 2? All you need is an old J-Tran bus with corrugated tin on one side, some stacks of used tires, and a crazy kid with a boomerang.

Anonymous said...

Don't homeowners pay city taxes to fund a police dept to keep them safe? I am serious people.

Anonymous said...

Command Center isn't manned. Closing a road also means that the home owners assume upkeep and ownership of that part of the road adjacent to their property. STOP AND FRISK is about all you got folks. Quit being morons.

Fix the Pipes and Fill the Potholes said...

It is barely conceivable that the COJ is so bankrupt that they would push the cost of modern crime prevention measures like cameras onto any neighborhood - which already pays taxes for basic necessities like public safety. And what is the difference between a "temporary" and "permanent" road closure - and how is there a $20K cost difference? Next thing COJ will send an estimate to pave the roads...

Anonymous said...

Just a bunch of feel good, do gooder liberals getting exactly what they deserve.

Anonymous said...

Exactly 1:37...as soon as y'all find a way to keep that St Andrews traffic out and you will have the lion-share of the Belhaven problems licked.

Anonymous said...

Neighborhood gates do not seem to be a crazy concept in many many of the neighborhoods in Ridgeland, Madison and Flowood. The difference being those neighborhoods were recently developed and only have a couple entrances. Belhaven has been here over 100 years and was laid out and built up in a grid pattern well before the concept of limited access. There are many entrances into the neighborhood. Don't understand the hate towards other people's choices.

Get out! Get out while you can!

The Jackson Real Time Command Center is supposed to be operated by four LEOs and a Supervisor. Live videos from all over the city can be tracked 24/7 to detect crime and coordinate immediate responses.

$6,000 cameras? WTF? Are chowke and his sister getting a piece of the action?

Most of the Belhavenites who favor the "tax ourselves" plan either don't know or don't believe what our Mayor said publicly on TV. Whatever money we raise is money that the City of Jackson will not have to spend on Belhaven. Will we still be paying city taxes? Of course.
By the way, not all of us in Belhaven are raging Liberal Progressives. Many of us are conservative. We are just outnumbered.

My "slow down the crime" Plan said...

I could drastically slow down the crime anywhere in the City of Jackson for about $125. No $25,000 road closures required.

Step 1: Go to the Bank with a $100 bill. Ask for 10 rolls of quarters. There's 40 in a roll so now you've got 400 quarters.

Step 2: Spend the other $25 on tubes of JB Weld.

Step 3: Randomly glue the quarters to the streets and sidewalks throughout Belhaven.

Pro Tip: Concentrate on the areas in view of the Real Time Crime Center cameras. Leave a few loose. Consider them "PPE incentives". Sit back and be amazed at how much the crime has slowed when the criminals spend time bending over trying to pick up a quarter instead of car jacking you.

Belhaven is lost.

Anonymous said...

This is the GBNF warning Belhaven that crime is going to get worse and an acknowledgement that Lumumba and JPD are unable and unwilling to protect the citizens of Jackson.

Anonymous said...

Sad when a city sinks so far that a neighborhood has to form their own security force. Bold city ok!

Anonymous said...

orrrrrr they could just move to Madison or (*gasp*) Rankin County?

Anonymous said...

Note to Robert St.John: cut your losses now and stop your Fondren project.

The normally unsafe Jackson water will not even be flowing within a few weeks. (cold weather, busted water mains, and the usual poop fountains in the middle of the streets).

Regarding Belhaven residents ... DEAL WITH IT !

Ya'll have had twenty-five plus years to get out, so no sympathy for any of ya'll that chose to remain.

Anonymous said...

Is there evidence that the real time crime center has been instrumental in detecting a real time crime and responding? Seriously, just wondering. Haven't seen a story on it-

All reactive measures, nothing preventative.

Because prevention may hurt someone's feelings, and we can't have that.

What a dumbass environment to intentionally live in. Surprise the kids with moving to Belhaven, where succumbing is exponentially increased, simply for opening the front door.

Anonymous said...

6:26, the progressive Liberal/Dim-O-Krat voters never learn. They just keep ignoring the problem or blame it on someone not in office anymore or like they did in VA during the I-95 cluster fu*k, blame it on someone not even sworn into office yet.

Just when you think it could get any worse than Odummer, along comes Joe, slow walking, stumbling Joe.....

But the big question is, what will it take for the light bulb to go on? Guess their local Shirly Temple watering hole will have to burn down like they did in the peaceful "Protest" in Portland or Seattle, but then they've all gone so far rogue "stupid" they just sit there like Pskai with that "wtf" look on their faces.

@7:23 PM, I just had a thought. Maybe the Chokster is taking the Ebenezer Scrooge approach. Perhaps he's sees the ever-increasing murder rate as a way to "decrease the surplus population". I'm just sayin'........

Wish one person could explain why it sticks in their craw that we choose to remain in Belhaven. I'm not remotely irritated about where you live, unless I have to drive 30 minutes to your house. I have never been accused of being liberal.

Funny how some of y'all think everyone in Belhaven is liberal.

Once the brewery opens, the only thing missing from Belhaven will be a neighborhood pool.

They should get some more blue light cameras. The only entrance worth maybe closing would be Gillespie in my opinion. I totally get laughing at paying 20K to close an entrance.

Haters gotta hate.

To go along with the Buckhead comment, I agree, East and Northeast Jackson should consider becoming their own city.

Okay, we get it Kingfish, you like to beat up on Jackson. You feel better now?

The enablers are out in force. They choose to be abused. Leave them alone to enjoy their complete civic dysfunction as they see fit.

People in Jackson are paying in taxes 5.75 as much as those of us in Gluckstadt!

Anonymous said...

We bought outdoor cameras for $100 each. But we also understand that they don't prevent or stop crime.

Anonymous said...

Who cares. Sounds like everyone involved is a pussy. There’s a major testosterone shortage in Belhaven and everybody knows it.

Anonymous said...

Dear Jackson Haters,

Most of the comments I read from you are based on facts. I’ll be the first to admit that as I scroll through them, I often find myself questioning whether or not I’m making the right decision by remaining in Belhaven. It would make much more sense to move to Madison. But then my irrational brain takes over when I start imaging what it would be like to have one you assholes as a neighbor, so I stay in Belhaven.

Anonymous said...

Well 4:59, kind of hard to call it hate when people state the facts and it's apparent you have no clue to the facts. You think that living in your little safe place is going to protect you.

Guess you'd rather pay money you don't have than live in a decent place like Madison. You'd rather buy bottled water or boil your water several times a week than just turn on the tap to get a drink of drinkable water.

Why I bet you and your wife don't mind driving to Madison or Flowood to go shopping when you have all the fine shopping venues in Jackson. Please keep your money and stay in Jackson, you're going to need it with those new garbage fees, extra police camera fees and to keep padding the drowning mayor and his sister's bank accounts.

We're rather pleased you're staying in your little bastion of denial than go somewhere and vote stupid as you seem to do in Jackson. I'd guess you're looking at a bigger asshole in the mirror shaving, than you'd live next to elsewhere. Sucks to be you!

Anonymous said...

4:59 THRILLED that you're not coming to corrupt our neighborhood!! We LOVE our neighbors!!!

Anonymous said...

6:08 has a neighbor that wishes they had stayed in Jackson.

Anonymous said...

4:59, many of us in Madison were raised in Fondren, Belhaven and Northeast Jackson. A lot of us have parents who still live in Jackson. Come on up, the water’s fine.

Anonymous said...

A Belhaven person here,

12:25-1) What are you overcompensating for? 2) Testosterone shortage? We have current and former Belhaven and Millsaps football players wandering around the neighborhood. We are the ones that have no problem going for walks while living in the most dangerous city in the USA, never scared.

You keep overcompensating and thinking you are going to take on four or five guys with guns at night who have the element of surprise on their side assuming you’re referring to all the carjackings we had, and you keep thinking you are tough when you gotta lives in the burbs.

By the way, just because we have Democrat city officials doesn’t mean everyone that lives in Jackson is a Democrat.

Another thing, I know more super liberal people that live in the burbs than in Jackson.

Anonymous said...

Well...you certainly rebutted the testosterone comment with your claim that there are several ex walk-on football players wandering around the neighborhood. How many who played real football at JSU, MSU, OM, USM and Valley? And not let's not count the girls volleyball alums.

Second question: How many Harleys are parked in the entire hood?

Last question: How many have jobs that require they arrive at work by 7:15 a.m. as opposed to between 9 and 11:00 a.m.? This is an important question. Think deeply.

Anonymous said...

1) No idea. How many of the guys you cheer for have no business going to the schools you listed above from an academic standpoint? Do they only make it by having two tutors and professors that look the other way?

2) So, you overcompensate by having a Harley?

3) Again, commenting about crap you have no idea about. Plenty of people are gone well before 9.

Haters gotta hate. Trolls gotta troll.

No 7:49, I have new neighbors who just moved from Jackson to get away from stupid people and your thug neighbors.......

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
