Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement.
Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba has released an
executive order closing City Hall and all non-essential city offices due
to a surge in coronavirus cases.
The Mayor put the order into place out of an
abundance of caution to prevent the possible spread of the virus, in
particular the Omicron variant.
“The infectious spread of COVID-19 through both the
Delta and Omicron variants has continued and dramatically increased in
the City of Jackson, with a corresponding increase in hospitalizations
and death rates…the City of Jackson does not
have the luxury of a wait-and-see approach to the continued threat.”
City Hall and city offices will be closed from Dec.
29 to Jan. 5. City employees are expected to work remotely where
possible to ensure City services remain in place. Offices will reopen at
8 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2022.

If mayor talks a lot is so concerned about the new "dangerous" covid variants why was he out in Atlanta partying without a mask? Answer -- he thought nobody would take a picture of him. What a sorry excuse for a mayor.
Omg… the idiot in chief actually is a moron. Seems this idiot fell for MSNBC and dr faux reports. My god man get a clue and get a set!!!your a total stooge and laughing stock.
Never let an excuse for failure go to waste.
🤡 Mayor
Just an extended holiday for the loafers who purport to "run" this city.
What a jackass move.
What is dangerous is 150 murders this year so far.
WE are all so screwed. Yes I said WE. This level of stupid is in place at the highest level down and there is no remedy. Voting clearly will not work. The downfall of mankind this go around is utterly embarrassing. The only help from above will come in the form of an asteroid ☄️
CDC recommends condoms. Mayor: that rule doesn’t apply to me cause I fuck the city all the time.
I hope y’all understand that the Legislature session will be suspended for a couple of weeks as well. You won’t be getting your weed bill signed anytime soon.
for the non-essential employees that can't work remotely, do they just get to sit on their ass and get a free paycheck?
"The Mayor put the order in place out of an abundance of caution...." Perhaps the Most Honorable Mayor Chowke Antar Lumumba (Gotta use his full name just like the local media you know) should've started his whole "abundance of caution" thing with setting all the traffic lights in the city to only flash yellow to cut down on car jackings. Nobody stops at a red light anymore anyways.
Huge over reaction on this board. How much work do you think gets done in any office between Christmas and New Years. The folks who got screwed were the ones who already charged vacation.
11:24 ….yes. And What a lot of people don’t know is that they’ve been doing this for a year now. It is strange that king fish doesn’t know that the city in Jackson employees many of them have been working remotely that said loosely for a year.
"Out of an abundance of caution" I do not visit nor drive in/through Jackistan.
Jackson is being run by simpletons.THEN, ya have to factor in the city council.
Talk about a ship of fools...!
@11:24 That's what many of them do when they are actually at the office. Just sit on their butt and do nothing. I've been to Jackson and seen it far too often. I've dealt with them for 25 years.
@6:25 In my office, a bunch gets done. It's normally slower from a customer standpoint, so it's a great time to get caught up and get some stuff handled. It's an extremely productive week. I'm in the water/sewer utility industry. This is a great week to train people, address some issues, etc.
I don't know that? Really?
Probably caught it giving this interview blaming the city's issues on everything but the real issues:

Just curious,
I live in NE Jackson but have a medical practice in Madison county. Why would Antar do this? Are other areas doing this around metro Jackson ?
Will anyone notice when City Hall re-opens?
I am sure it is with pay. Can't have exemplary employees not getting paid.
Reading chowke's biography says it all.
I agree with closing City Hall. Out of an abundance of caution, however, it should remain closed until Groundhog's Day........in 2023.
There's a few lazy nut-job types in my office.
They all get furious that we refuse to shut down and work remote for the Omicron Cold.
They are also the same ones who proved they were doing absolutely no work while 'remotely working' from home in 2020.
Luckily the ones in charge at my employment don't cater to the whims of the morons so the lazy ones are forced to show up.
The difference in Jackson however, is that they are governed exclusively by the lazy nut-job morons. So there is no responsible adult to force them to be productive as we had to do to those afflicted at my office.
The idiots just outnumber the intelligent people on Earth, so I don't see how this improves.
Elect and enjoy, folks!
City services? Do tell.
Following Jackson government and The Most High Chokme LeMumbles is like a bad Netflix series. You don’t think it can get any worse, and then BAM it does…. Tiger King watch out, we have a new possible competitor for you…. “I can’t compete with that!!!”
But the Zoo is open
Meridian city offices are closed as well.
This clown is a phucking joke.
I'd like to see the daily average number of paid attendees for the Zoo.
Chokwe's pronouncement has no affect on state government. Surely you knew that, 9:19 p.m. The legislature doesn't have much need to interface with Jackson city hall.
Funny…I never thought it was open.
It’s funny how all the private companies in Jackson can manage to stay open and I know my doors aren’t closing so we have 52 people in our building. Lumumba it’s a good thing you don’t have to produce a paycheck bc your a$$ would be done. What a joke
I see city of Jackson and city of canton closed government. They claim it’s just non essential workers. My question is this… if they’re non essential then why are they there.
I saw City of Canton also decided to take a tax payer funded holiday.
Must be nice.
The rest of us will just keep risking our lives and going to work so these useless asshats can live off of us, I suppose.
I just paid my water bill in Gluckstadt at Bear Creek. They are open. Then got lunch at Sonic. They were open as well.
Jackistan hit #152, but there are 12+ hours before midnight. Methinks that Jackistan will hit 154 before the year is over. Come on thugs, we are depending on you to dilute the thug gene pool.
Damn!! I read the headline and thought we finally made it.
But then I read the story and find out that closing City Hall was only temporary.
Hope springs eternal. Maybe pretty soon Baby Chock will take the final plunge and close it for good.
