Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
On Thursday, December 9, 2021, Rankin County dispatch received a call regarding a house fire in the Dominion Lakes Subdivision off of Highway 471 in Rankin County. Shortly after fire personnel responded, another call was received that a fireman had been attacked at that location. Rankin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene where they detained THERON ELLISON MORRIS JR. After speaking with family and other witnesses, it was determined that MORRIS had intentionally started the fire. Fire crews from Langford, Evergreen, Lake Harbor, Reservoir, Brandon and Rankin County EOC assisted in battling the fire. All of the residents of the house were safely evacuated from the residence. MORRIS was taken to the hospital for minor burn injuries. Another adult male resident was also taken to the hospital for minor burn injuries.
Upon his release from the hospital, MORRIS will be transported to the Rankin County Jail where he will be charged with arson as well as assault on the firefighter. District Attorney Bubba Bramlett will bring MORRIS before Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow for an initial appearance.

A hot mess-
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. The Rankin SO definitely backs their other first responders.
Sounds like this boy had some mental issues that were possibly drug related. Mental illness is rampant in our society. So what other reason would a 21 year old try to kill his family?
If I were an attending fire fighter, this idiot would have had a lot more than superficial wounds.
I knew him personally. We were very good friends. This is so wild for me, who would have known? I am deeply sorry for the family.
