Nice chain link fence around the air conditioner units.

Are these on the Hinds county side of the road?

Anonymous said...

did you hear about something coming to the location? Or you just decided to point out how much of an eyesore it is on Countyline Rd

Ghost of the future for Jacksonians

This was a good restaurant and Asian grocery at one time. Too bad most people didn't give it a chance.

Anonymous said...

So Sad... Once upon a time, that used to be a very nice restaurant. At least for the Jackson metro area...

Anonymous said...

2:17, at this point it doesn't matter. That area is D.E.A.D. dead.

Being adjacent to Jackson was not good, but steering FEMA money to new shopping developments (one just an exit away) was stupid. GO zone, another Haley legacy, like the meat plant.

Wonder what route they took the PGA guys? I bet they never travelled West of Old Canton the whole time they were here.

perfect site for a Dannys or Babes

A common site in this liberal paradise.

@2:26
Mr. Chen’s was always so much better. But Fortune did have some things that Chen’s didn’t. The people behind Fortune should’ve opened up in Flowood. If we were already driving into Jackson then there was no reason to NOT go to the better Asian market!

Should be torn down.

Not so long ago County line road was a good area. I have not seen it in 6 years but a friend tell me I would not even know it.

Anonymous said...

I remember going to this after it was built, but I cannot remember the name of the original restaurant.

Anonymous said...

Chick-fil-A bought the site and is moving across the street. Needed more parking.

iSsnt't that right across Ridgewood Court Drive from the Jesus Chik-N?

2:30 - nice try, but no. Come back later and try again.

FEMA money is not "steered" - it is applied for and granted or denied. The fact that the development in Ridgeland qualified was a benefit to the developers, but I'll bet a dollar to this dilapated wasteland shown in these pictures that you cannot produce a damn thing to justify your "steered" comment, or a connection to 'Haley'. Or for that matter, anybody.

Wanna play?

Anonymous said...

Maybe Chick Fil A could buy the entire City and make it good again.

Anonymous said...

I believe it was a Grady's when it was built and then a Barnhill's Country Buffet in 2005.

Anonymous said...

I don't know about originally, but it was a Barnhill's at one point.

Grady's

Coming soon !

Another church-owned property.

Amazing, that as Grady's, even in the early 2000's, that place was packed for lunch and dinner. With the city having no code enforcement, nor any interest in doing things to protect a tax base, you are gifted this, with several thousand vaunt square feet surrounding it. Can't go buy over priced technology in that area any more, can't by acceptable shoes for our children to wear to school in that area......All in the city of Jackson. A city that would try to convince people that increasing their garbage collection fees 2x, and providing one less occurrence per week, is a better deal than paying 2x less, and getting 2 occurrences per week.

Seriously, Socrates Garret gets a contract for water meters, botches the job, named as part of a lawsuit, massive settlement to the city paid by funds from insurance policies (I would guess), city collects money, city then funnels Socrates insurance settlement funds back to him through other companies that did not exist last year. Makes sense!!

It appears that Brinker International owned gradys, macaroni grill, and on the border. All of which were in that quadrant. They also own corner bakery which has closed.

Anonymous said...

Ahhhhh I forgot about grady's!!! that place was so meh........The ambiance was way nicer than the food. Good date place!!!

Anonymous said...

I drove past this yesterday going to the CFA. The Ridgeland side of the street is much cleaner and full of businesses. The city should find the owner and have them clean it up. My guess is an out of state, deadbeat owner... We don't need any more help screwing up what we have left. If they can't keep it clean, tear it down.

Anonymous said...

Renaissance is next. This is why you do NOT want a mall in your neighborhood.

Anonymous said...

The point he is making is the trash everywhere. Go down Pear Orchard. Trash everywhere. Disgusting. Since reverse gentrification began, all of 39211 is devolving into an huge trash dump.....everywhere. Apparently, litter doesn't bother some people.

Anonymous said...

At one time this was a Cheddar’s.

Anonymous said...

To answer Kingfish's original question, the East County Line Road corridor will continue to go down, especially on the Jackson/Hinds County side, and in 5-10 years it will look just about like the area around the Metrocenter.

Say It Wit Me... said...

Next, you will notice iron bars and a string of white lights around every frontage window on every gas station in Ridgeland. Valero was just the starting point. Gene Magee's successor can sit up high in his second story window and watch the ghetto-creep overtake his new office building like kudzu through Kosciusko. Queen Mary will have high-tailed it to Natchez by then, Madison will be South-Canton and apartments will have sprung up all over the city that's not for sale. Lumumba will be governor, Babs Blackmon will be Leftenant Governor, Delbert will be janitor at the Sillers Building and Gunn will be running a shoe-shine stand at Best Inns and Suites on 55 North.

Anonymous said...

M-Bar second location!

Anonymous said...

Mayor Gene is trying to use County Line as a buffer. The north side is marginally better than the south side. He's directing all he can to his buddies over on Highland Colony. Allowing North Park to become the next MetroCenter.

Anonymous said...

Property taxes on the Hinds County side are 70% higher than across the street.

Anonymous said...

The Grady's in Knoxville was a very nice place as was this location when it first opened. Macaroni was great too, with the window view of the kitchen and pasta rolling out to satisfy diners. I liked Fortune too. Maybe they can open a new beer joint/dance club/death scene there soon, so the Mayor can make a new business friend.

Anonymous said...

I’m thinking the next closure will be the District’s two restaurants. Maybe there are enough WOKE people still in Jackson to keep those places open. I bet you guys haven’t thought about this, there is only one place in Jackson to buy a fish hook. I made the mistake of saying that on another site. Some WOKE female set me straight. You can still buy fish hooks at the Hwy18 Walmart. Told her I was not ready to die yet. 🥴🥴

Coke Refill Over Here Ma'am.. said...

If this is the place I think it is, facing north on County line, inside Jackson, there is one reason it folded and only one. A restaurant owner will NOT survive running a buffet in the capital city of the fattest state in the nation. They even had fried chicken on the weekend breakfast buffet. If that doesn't bring 'em in like flies on shit, nothing will. Half of it is left on the plates and another fourth gets stuffed in purses.

Look around. All have folded, one by one. The Chinese buffets, the Penn's chain, the national chains along the interstate in Pearl...every place that lays out a huge buffet, opens the gate to the hog pen and gets back out of the way. You will NEVER make a profit given this set of dynamics. Then there are the 50 cent tippers, if they leave anything at all.

Anonymous said...

3:16, it was Haley, CDBG money directed for Katrina, and a GO Zone that went from the coast to Starkville that sucked Butler Snow, Regions, and Horne out of downtown Jackson to the Renaissance in Ridgeland. All of which helped kill downtown. Your move, sport.

Anonymous said...

This is going on all over the state of mississippi. When the White middle class leaves an area what's left behind ain't pretty. The latest census numbers(2020) show Mississippi White population is down to 56%. Almost 50k white folks left the State over the past decade.

PrayForJackson said...

At one time, It was a restaurant called Barnhills...

Anonymous said...

E. County Line Rd has been a dead zone for years. Not certain what the fuss is about. Have not been to any shop or food company for over 15 years. Last visit and meal not eaten was at a chain resturant that apparently had no service workers and did not feel the need to give us beverages or cutlery. Area looked a bit rundown. Took out of state relatives to Northpark Mall 16 yrs and regretted it. Too many kids hanging in parking lot looking like wanna be gangsters.

Anonymous said...

Cheddars? That plus sucked even in Flowood. What a chit show waiting on a plate of chicken for over 2hrs. What a joke, 100 employees and NOONE working.

Anonymous said...

I personally do not think problems like this are black/white. I see statistics show us everyday in every state and city it is a Democrat/Republican issue. When Democrats take hold of any city or small area, they ruin it, they hire their relatives and friends who are NOT QUALIFIED, they bankrupt areas, and leave poorer citizens who cannot move away to just deal with it. No person white or black wants to leave a business behind but are forced to when Dem politicians run a city into the ground.

Anonymous said...

5:10. Bullshit. Marginally higher but quit making up crap.

Anonymous said...

Go Zone was gerrymandered by Haley himself based on who supported his campaign. He wrote that part of the bill for Bush. Just what we needed, hundreds of millions of dollars of incentives for new retail malls in a state with declining population.

Maybe you have not noticed but Renaissance nor the outlets at Pearl are close to full. Give them ten years. The only place worth a damn in this state are the college towns and the coast. The rest will be a ghost town.

And yes I know, Mary claims Madison is a college town. Ha.

Anonymous said...

5:52 I damn sure do. (See your line 1) Plain and simple. Dynamics 101. When a restaurant opens and people with no real home training take it over, this element does not tip. Said restaurant then can't get service staff and place closes. See Copelands and the 50 places since trying to survive in what should be a great location.

The person who has paid the taxes for the last four years is Qi J Chen who appears to live at 6262 Mossline Drive, Jackson MS 39211

I've asked Ashby Foote about this eyesore several times, but nothing has been done. It was never a Cheddars but it was a Grady's.

I can't wait to get outta here... said...

There is NOTHING classy about Jackson.

If were to be nuked Mississippi and the United States would be better off.

Anonymous said...

East county line is going to look like that section of HWY 80 in jackson compared to the section in rankin county.

Anonymous said...

5:24 -- ok. Yes, Haley was Governor. Yes, there was a disaster - Katrina on the coast. Yes, the disaster area, based on federal laws, did extend north to Highway 82, because there was damage throughout the area (90 mph winds in Jackson for four hours.)

So, with FEMA designating the area as a disaster, the establishment of the GOZONE was for that area. So anybody in the area could apply - whether it was Renaissance or MetroCenter. Or the the I55 interchange in Vaiden.

Still disagree - you have not pointed out who did the directing to Ridgeland. Yes, did they build a big ass area up there, and take advantage of the programs? Hell yes. Some developers that were willing to invest their money and use the GOZONE $$$s available moved there.

But nobody 'directed' those folks to that site, any more than did the developers on the coast, or in Hattiesburg, or anywhere else in the Zone.

Check. Mate, I believe.

Anonymous said...

6:11 - not 5:10 here but the millage in Jackson plus Hinds County compared to Ridgeland plus t Madison County is much more than 'marginally' higher. Jackson is 35% higher, and Hinds is a good 25%. I don't know what the school taxes do to the two areas.

Anonymous said...

The Jackson people who used to shop there are spending more than ever (including the accompanying tax dollars) only now it's in Madison and Rankin counties. The rich get richer and the poor can't understand why.

Meanwhile, the other side of the road has new development

OK...I'll take a shot. Do you really think a bank, a law firm and an accounting office moving out of Jackson are going to ripple the water in a sewage lagoon? Other than Two Men And A Truck being busy for a few days, nobody noticed. Next?

@6:11

5:10 here...per Hinds County's tax roll, the Chic Fil A's real property taxes @ County Line Rd equal $27,757.55 / assessed value of $145,092 = 0.19131 mills.

https://www.co.hinds.ms.us/pgs/apps/real_property_billing_roll_detail.asp?ID=07380009011&IDYear=2020&typetax=1

Per Madison County's land rolls and Tax Collector's information, Taco Bell's real property taxes @ County Line Rd equal $11,149.17 / assessed value of $103,425 = 0.1078 mills.

0.19131 / 0.1078 = 1.774682

https://www.madison-co.com/land-roll-street-search (will have to search for 1146 E County Line Rd - Taco Bell address)

https://madison.ibcpayments.com/property-tax# (will have to search for the parcel number from the land roll search and the owner name)

Now, where might I find your supporting data?

You advise to quit being afraid of criminals and homeless beggars, remain living in Jackson in devalued real estate, support failing schools, drive over cratered streets and fallen bridges, drink bad water, let sewer dry in piles and approve of an absurd mayor who makes 56% pay for city services to 44%?

You cannot just tear down abandoned buildings. Mississippi Law makes it very difficult for cities to tear down property abandoned by absentee owners and tear it down.

I live in Fondren and have off and on for decades. I love the place. It feels like my hometown when I was growing up with a real variety of housing, 100 year old oaks, sitting on the screened porch watching neighbors pass by...

Now It's time to leave. It's just too much. One thing I never experienced growing up was nightly gunfire. HTF did I end up living around that?

Because of health issues, I need to be reasonably close to Jackson's medical centers, but I cant find anywhere that's not a gleaming new sterile town, or a neighbor hood that feels like where I've always.

Honestly ; I'd leave this state and the south if I could, but age makes such a disruption unrealistic. All I can think of is Eastbrooke.its very discouraging. Poor, poor Jackson.

The Jackson Jambalaya website traffic must be down. You trying to steal "Bash Jackson" clicks from Save Jackson over a long abandoned building.

The docs and hospitals in Jackson are high quality. There are some upper end condo-apts recently built near the 3 major hospitals, as well as a new project planned for Duling School. Perhaps you can consider one of those.

Meanwhile, sleep on the East side of your house, those gunshots you hear are likely coming from West of you.

Growing up in Jackson, I never thought I would see a day when the leaders and residents were begging "the community" to all run in kumbahya-style and save the city.

We had pride and effective leadership, and the surrounding burbs would turn to the city for guidance.

The fact that they so proudly demand a hand-out and volunteers from "the community" is all you need to know.

The residents have no interest in doing the uncomfortable things that would be required to be a safe and functional city again.

But they had no problem enjoying the pre-white flight tax monies, while giving little to no representation to the homeowners that were providing them.
Such a shame.

Anonymous said...

I used to drive past this place on my way to work further down East County Line. The owner would park his forklift under the canopy to the right of the entry. You are right...classy.

Can someone publish a link to the sheet music for Kumbaya?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
