ACAB
Make a post about all the innocents killed by insane cops you bootlicking faggot Jimmy
RIP my brother. Prayers for your family.
Of course, extremely sad, but the (quiet) question many want to know is, who crossed over into who's lane of traffic. Not to minimize any of the tragedy - same result.
Prayers for family. So sad. May he rest in the peace and loving presence of God.
R.I.P. Brother
Trooper Killed or Traffic accident, I just want facts, leave out the hyperbole please. God Bless His Soul
So sorry - thank you for your service, trooper.
I support all first responders, but was this really necessary, ambulances fly up and down 55 all day everyday, from my observation they are never impeded by traffic.
I travel Highway 16 every day. The speed limit is 55, but even if you go 60 cars line up behind you as if they are going to push you off the road so they can get by. The highway patrol are there often and always have someone stopped. Some 18 wheelers are mindful of the speed limit but most are not and barrel through no matter the traffic or the hazard of passing. And then there are the "flashers" that warn oncoming traffic of radar set up after they've passed it.
After all these years I've never seen an 18 wheeler stopped for speeding--just passenger vehicles.
This was a fine young man that had served with honor and distinction. Truly a sad end to his life.
Last Wednesday, JJ had a post about MHP working a line to line project in conjunction with other states promoting travel safety. That article had some of the most heartless, disgusting and ignorant comments regarding MHP enforcing the law. I hope this tragedy will make you think about the actual people doing this job and the risks they take. I wonder how many of these mouths would have the guts, much less the intelligence to do what this trooper was doing when he lost his life.
Trooper was out on a traffic stop on hwy 16 west. The 18 wheeler hit a car that hit the trooper.
I too read the comments about the cops and the weekend thing. I don't think the comments were meant to be personal. It's the thing to do nowadays. We forget cops and teachers and firemen and even the mail carrier are people too. It's their job to do what they do. We get caught up in our own world that's hard enough as it is without having to worry about laws and such. I respect what the trooper did. I pray for everyone who works with people. It can go south on you in a split second. We are the most unpredictable animal on Earth after all.
Has the truck driver been charged ?
People don’t realize that such a large percentage of police deaths are from car crashes. Everyone assumes the dangers they face are bad guys with guns. Maybe once cars drive themselves , policing will be as safe or safer than most other manual labor type jobs.
To the commenter that said they have never seen an 18 wheeler stopped by law enforcement. It has been a minute since I set in the seat of an 18 wheeler. Before I quit for medical reasons, I set in the driver's seat for, off and on, 36 years. The old school drivers would take a new hand, or driver, under their wing to teach the rookie the ropes, so to speak. The top of the list was staying out of trouble with smokey bear. We called them that, but no disrespect was intended. They had a job to do and so did we. There were several, kind of, unwritten rules among truckers and law enforcement when it came to the rules of the road. I won't go into great details but very near the top of that, staying out of trouble with smokey, list was the subject of speed. Keep your speed 5 to 7 miles an hour over the limit, and you could stay out of trouble. Unless, school buses were using the road. School time required a more conservative speed for safety reasons. The last thing a respectable driver wanted on their record was an accident with a school bus. From what I hear now, with the new breed of drivers, it's not like that.
No word on the Truck Driver being jailed. Must have been an accident otherwise the poor guy would’ve in jail. I feel just as sorry for him. He has to live with it the rest of his days.
What update? I was told the 18 wheeler was stopped and a dump truck came around the stopped 18 wheeler and hit the trooper. Kingfish is real damned slow in updating whatever the facts are in this situation.
Regardless, it's a fact that trucks own this highway. Dump trucks, log trucks and other trucks that 'bend in the middle' and require a Class A.
So, now we have a dumptruck passing an 18 wheeler and striking the trooper and we have an 18 wheeler slamming into a car that struck the trooper. And another site has it that Florida HP brought the family home and also says a Ford dealership in the area sent a plane for the family.
If details were not important, nobody would be reading this thread or commenting.
By the way, I'm told his dad played basketball at Delta State back in the sixties.
