Visitation and funeral services for MHP Trooper John Harris will be held tomorrow at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison.
The visitation will be at noon. The funeral services follows at 2 PM. A graveside service will be held at the Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison.
Commissioner of Public Safety Sean Tindall established a Gofundme page for the Harris family. It is posted below. Commissioner Tindall stated:
Please consider helping the family of Trooper Harris. I was in their home last night, and as I was leaving, I couldn’t help but notice the bag of baseballs on a shelf and a bat against the wall in their garage. It hit me, the memory of the countless hours I’ve spent with my own children, both on and off the field, teaching them life’s lessons. It greatly saddens me that his 9-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son will never get to fully experience those times with their father. These law enforcement officers go above and beyond for all of us every day, often with little or no thanks. During this time of great uncertainty for his wife Kate, consider helping them as a way of thanking Trooper Harris for his life of service.
The funeral will be live-streamed tomorrow.

May God bless his family. My prayers are lifted for them.
There’s another fund started by another Trooper, Bubba Holifield, that has collected over $100k. Looking out for one another... Nice Job.
Gofundme is ok. But let's take some of that lotto money coming in and establish a self-funded life insurance policy for officers that die in the line of duty so that an officer's family receives 250,000 for every minor child, wife, or dependent.
Could you repost the go fund me link? Thank you.
These children are 'halfway to college', as the frequent ad says. Why not have the state establish a funded education for the children of those who die in the line of duty?
Oh my goodness. Didn’t realize it was John, nor that he had moved to MHP. Worked with him a good bit when he was at Madison County. He was a great K9 officer, and a good guy.
RIP, “Junior.”
The state has a fund for Leo and ff’s kids who die in the lod to receive free college in Mississippi.
The Feds have a Public Safety Officers' Benefit Program which provides payments and educational benefits to the survivors of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
I didn't have the pleasure of knowing John. However, I watched his funeral service online and was simply amazed by John's father's eulogy of his son. Wow.
Traffic is a freaking mess around ridgeland and Madison today because of this funeral. No telling how much the state paid for all those cops to take the day off and drive down for it.
