Maywood Mahem

Just yet another disturbed person populating the streets of Jackson when she should be somewhere um, safe.

The unidentified woman was throwing clothes all over the road. She pulled her pants down and was going to the bathroom in the middle of the road.  The police arrived and made her get off the street and onto the side of the road where Mister Mister Car Wash is.

Kingfish note: Remember, this is what the ACLU wants in Jackson and everywhere else.

"She pulled her pants down and was going to the bathroom in the middle of the road. "

Thanks for the heads up.

I've watched the same shit (no pun intended) in the Fondren . . . at Old Canton & Lakeland to be exact.
And also in the St. D parking garage. But St D is obsessed with people sneaking a drag off a Marlboro Light.

Anyway, another reason to take alternate routes when traveling close to the Capitol City.

What's the problem. Have you never heard of sorting whites and colors when you're dealing with your dirty clothes? I mean, really! Read the instructions on the detergent box, man!

Anonymous said...

Isn't that the same woman the Ridgeland PD escorted to Fondren a few weeks ago?

Just call DMH at 1-877-210-8513 and request mobile crisis. They can get a police officer to take her for evaluation against her will. This is offered statewide but most mental health centers do not comply with requests for help. When they refuse, call the governor’s office. The mental health centers are required to treat EVERYONE regardless of the ability to pay. The DOJ sued MS because DMH sucks. Drug treatment is free too but most mental health centers refuse to take the poor.

looks kind of like the lady in the video that the Ridgeland police took to Jackson and dropped off.

This is not a Jackson problem. This is a failure of legislators to fully fund mental health programs in this State.

Sad and all, but it’s easy enough to steer around such folk, and let them get their inner demons out of their system. Not much the casual observer can do, other than calling the cops and hope it’s a slow day at the precinct. Making a video seems a little strange, though. Best to just ignore this nonsense.

I glad they built I-220.
Also, Fannin Road too.
You can loop around Jackson.

Feel sorry for her.

She is someone's child, maybe she's a mother as well. At the very least she's in need of some type of medical attention. This is where you can get me on public health care.

We can do better than leaving her to the streets.

So when are we going to stop cutting funding to the Department of Mental Health?

Anonymous said...

They need to quit letting these people out of madison! Let them stay at home, where they belong!

Anonymous said...

The Republicans controlling this State: “Gun control isn’t necessary. Diverting more resources to mental health would suffice.”

Same Republicans when asked to more adequately fund mental health: “no thanks.”

Making fun of a mentally ill woman is a new low even for this blog. You should be ashamed.

Anonymous said...

Used to be a time when people like this were kept in sanatoriums but that was considered cruel so now they terrorize people in the streets instead. Thanks liberals.

If the mayor and councilman for the district actually want economic growth, they need to sick the police on these hoodlums and run them out of town. A united and consistent front can solve this problem. Notice how Brandon, Flowood, Ridgeland, Madison and Pearl don’t have this problem. If the mayor refuses to act, councilman Foote should use EVERY council meeting to make his point. He may be outnumbered but he has the online camera if he chooses to use it. Case on point...Kennuf Stokes.
Come on Ash, quit being a Clarence Thomas and actually use your voice.
Signed,
Northeast Jackson

Dept of Justice sued Dept of Mental Health because MS was hospitalizing too many people instead of offering Community Mental Health Services. As a result, the number of beds at MS State Hospital has decreased. The money saved has been reallocated to the local mental health centers. The mental health centers create many programs that look good on paper, but in reality do not work. As a result we still have many mentally ill people not receiving services. Things will not change until someone with political power has a family member who is mentally ill that needs better services. The entire mental health system makes me sad.

" councilman Foote should use EVERY council meeting to make his point."

That is honest to gawd the funniest comment Ive seen on JJ within the last 24 hours.

9:08, how do you know he's not doing what you ask? The C/L has no reporters left.

We could have a well-staffed mental health facility every half mile throughout Jackson and that would not affect this sort of behavior, acting out, drug-induced rants or symptoms of Dissociative disorders or a combination of all.

I was recently told that a man from Greenville had been in drug and alcohol treatment in Jackson NINETEEN times. Meanwhile, our society has outlawed straight-jackets, forced injections and restraint-chairs.

@ 7:13 Exactly right. I'll say it for you again:

This is not a Jackson problem. This is a failure of legislators to fully fund mental health programs in this State.

It's a sin and a shame. This person is just as helplessly ill as if she had cancer. Not her fault. She can't "take care of herself." She's a vulnerable human being who we need to take care of. Not for her sake but for ours. It's the price of thinking we are "civilized."

Anonymous said...

All y’all saying bad things about her gonna be in church Sunday?

@9:08
Actually Flowood has some homeless people near intersection where Lakeland meets old fannin near the newks and cicis pizza intersection. The police actually show up after a few minutes and run them off though.

The department of mental health has plenty of funding. Unfortunately, it goes to pay hundreds and hundreds of unnecessary workers that do little more than sit at a desk and draw a check. There are thousands of DMH employees. What do they do? What services do they provide? They don’t even provide proper oversight of the mental health centers. DMH is headquartered in Jackson yet Jackson has perhaps the highest number of addicted and mentally ill persons roaming the streets. The DMH leadership needs to be held accountable before they all quit.

The several on here who are always chattering about the need for Mental Health funding are lost in their own fog. They actually believe if there were more centers throughout the city, these wayward derelicts could be convinced to come in, given a room with clean sheets, some soup and an hour of counseling and walk out cured and productive. Damned blind idiots, all of you. Well, all four of you.

We will never return to butterfly nets and forced institutionalization; however, that would be the only answer.

I saw this same lady (i think) just last night standing in the middle of the Meadowbrook - I-55 bridge overpass ...in the rain, dark, 7pm'ish with her cart. Someone easily could have hit her bc of the rain and darkness.

Anonymous said...

10:19 - There is a method to her madness. She probably doesn't have mental issues other than an addiction of some sort and wanted someone to hit her so she could saddle up Schwartz or the Morgans to sue the crap out of the driver and their insurance company.

Anonymous said...

This is not a Jackson problem but a Mississippi problem surrounding adequate treatment and care for the mentally ill. Everyone should be reaching out to their Representatives and Senators and demand funding with accountability for mental health resources and facilities.

Ditto 8:47

Most state & federal have become employment agencies.

Every 4 years the newly elected spread their many family and friends into NEW slots. Problem is that those who were placed 4,8,12,16 years ago never get canned... you know you can't fire or even layoff govt workers. Keeps gettin BIGGER n BIGGER. Really tired of it.

Anonymous said...

6:24 - why do you suggest calling the Governor if the DMH doesn't respond? Dept of Mental Health doesn't report to the Governor and is not under the purview of the Governor.

And to all those DMH employees that are crying about the 'cuts' to the DMH budget - please show us those cuts and for the two budget years where there were cuts across the board, please compare the DMH cuts to the general agency cuts.

DMH doesn't need more money, it needs to spend the money it has properly. Dept of Mental Health has more state employees than any other three state agencies combined - nearly 1/3 of all state employees are on the payroll at DMH. But just like good agency employees, you want more and think that you can use this type person as an example of why you need more money.

I am not one to attribute every kind of unusual and bazaar behavior to demons but this lady was certainly acting like someone who is demon possessed.

1:25 wrote "you know you can't fire or even layoff govt workers. Keeps gettin BIGGER n BIGGER. Really tired of it."

Son, contrary to popular belief, the size of the federal government proportionate to the total U.S. population has significantly DECREASED over the last 50 years. It has also SHRUNK in absolute numbers in terms of both the full-time and part-time workforce.

Which alt right conspiracy theory website do you get your info from?

Anonymous said...

@3:31, that is because people are living much longer and retiring in larger numbers. The raw number of federal employees has exploded along with the deficit. Great job at draining the swamp Mr. Trump.

she is a danger to herself and others and needs to be in an institution. she could walk into the road to retrieve her clothes and get hit by a car. the car could swerve to miss her and hit a light pole or another car. some people have mental issues so severe they can't function in society, and need to be confined to a mental institution. she may be one of them. it's unfortunate, but that's also reality.

there are probably some meds she could take that would help her, but if she isn't under constant supervision, and taking them everyday, they won't work. mental health centers don't offer the constant supervision this lady needs. giving her meds and sending her on her way is a recipe for disaster. she won't take them as prescribed, or she'll sell them, or they'll be stolen from her.

maybe she's not mentally ill. maybe she's on drugs, maybe meth. if a drug addict, then no one can help her unless she wants to help herself. i've seen enough episodes of Intervention to know that. you can't make a drunk/druggie get better. they have to want it. at the least, she needs to be picked up, and evaluated for a few days to figure out her issues.

what's the solution? unfortunately, there are no easy solutions. before more money is spent anywhere, wasted money needs to stop being wasted. if people aren't doing their jobs, or their jobs are unnecessary then they need to be eliminated. move that money to places it's needed to help folks like this lady. i don't mind supporting programs that actually help people that genuinely need help, but i get mad when the people asking for more money out of my pocket are the same ones wasting the money they are already taking out of my pocket. until the waste, fraud and abuse is significantly reduced, don't ask me for more money.

1:45 -as a mental health center employee, we would get out ass in gear when the governor’s office called and demanded we help someone who was being ignored. The governor appoints the board who oversees DMH. That’s why I said call the governor. Or call your local rep. The last thing any mental health center wants is someone peering over their shoulder. There have been numerous deaths bc of incompetent mental health center employees. I know one lawyer who is licking his chops.

Yep, you can always depend on the atheists to roll up their sleeves and take care of the poor and needy.

Just like that atheist group the Salvation Army. Oops, that is a Christian group.

Just like that atheist group the Catholic Charities. Oops, that is a Christian group.

Just like that atheist group UMCOR. Oops, that is a Christian group.

Hmmm...do atheists ever do anything besides gripe about the people who actually do something about problems? Yeah, they vote to raise taxes on everyone to fund their groovy pet projects that have nothing to do with the problems at hand.

What’s more sad than this poor lady and her addiction and/or mental health crisis is the group of a-holes that recorded the video while snickering and noting that there was a cute dog in the parking lot. And then sending it to a blog so that everyone can gawk at her. See you kids in church on Sunday.

It's time to take some of the money out of the prison system and put it into the mental health system where it belongs. Taxpayers shouldn't be funding long term sentences of mentally ill people in jail.

We also should not have to put up with this type of behavior on our streets.

Its a miracle someone didn't hit her

Meanwhile, hundreds, maybe thousands of DMH employees are busy watching TikTok 8 hours a day. I've worked with government employees as a consultant and the lack of oversight, expectations of doing a job, or accountability is zero. I was paid $100/hr to make copies when consulting because state workers would not do it. Made me sick as a taxpayer. I'll do whatever is needed, but workers sat and talked on the phone or watched videos, while contractors were paid to do their work. This is so wrong - we need to slash workers who don't work and find people who care and will help these people.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
