These numbers are meaningless. We are only testing the symptomatic. Most people who carry the virus and are infectious are "healthy." they are your neighbor next door that you chat with on the lawn.
The antibody tests (now starting) will give us a true "have been infected number" and that is what we should be following.
The hospitalization, ICU, and ventilator numbers are not meaningless. Substantially everyone who is admitted to the hospital with COVID symptoms has been tested. Those numbers show a relatively flat rate since April 9. Things aren't getting worse, but they aren't getting better yet either. Of course those numbers lag the date of infection by a week or more so things may be better now but the data won't show it until next week.
8 people die but hey those vents are open now.
This is a win in MS. Great job!!
I wish they would specify, when ICU and ventilator numbers go down, whether it is due to recovery or deaths. Is it good news or bad news?
not meaningless numbers. not at all.
you know what it shows?
it shows no terrible "peak" for hospitalizations or vent usage.
so much for all the ballyhoo about that- the bodies stacking, the overflows, all the hype.
now cue up from the officials that destroyed our economy over this near nothing-burger " Look! Our measures worked! We saved you!".
righto. righto.
only a fool would actually believe that.
It would be helpful to know how many of those infected are being treated with the HCQ/Z-Pack/Zinc cocktail. Assuming it is effective that would explain the decline in need for ventilators.
It’s fine. The guvnuh and the cheef justice gonna open this mother back up and and we’ll pump those numbers up soon enough. MAGA
All you old timers need to go anyway.
It's been months. Who cares about infections or any of it. Move forward.
Time to dial back from this insanity, right now!
And stop selling the panic.
The doomsday projections from the "experts" who now can't adjust or admit error due to foolish pride, were bullshit!
The very small percentage of peeps that are most vulnerable should take precautions and the rest of us should get back to being Americans right now!
The reaction to this virus has been the most pathetic display of panty pissing fear I have ever seen. What a disgrace. It's not like in the movies. Healthy people aren't coughing up blood and dropping dead. And the heroic healthcare workers are actually responsible for most of the death. How else is a locked down nursing home going to get infected?
We should bring back the legendary "M" boys. Mabus, Musgrove, Molpus, Moore. You remember how they pulled Mississippi out of the doldrums into a great economic machine. Oh wait! You don't remember those glory days.
Where are people getting that 945 patients are currently hospitalized? Isn't that a total number of hospitalizations since this began, which would include many patients who have recovered and been discharged? If you look at the last chart in this post, wouldn't you add the top two lines to get the current number of hospitalized patients, which is much, much lower than 945?
Also, are the vent patients a totally separate number than the ICU patients? Or, are the vent patients a subset of the ICU patients, since I would assume anyone on a vent is also in ICU? This seems like an important point in getting a true picture of how much unused ICU and vent capacity there is in the system.
To all of you folks talking BS about panic and conspiracies, call us when you’re in a hospital room with no loved ones there to see or comfort you. No worries though.
12:29 - what 'has been months"?
The shelter in place order has been almost one month. The total COVID issue in Mississippi with anything more than a casual conversation about it has been less than 6 weeks.
Maybe you are using a different calendar but to me it looks like it hasn't hit the 's' in your statement yet.
But of course, with your seemed attitude, details and facts don't matter - just your learned opinion.
It's not the deaths, though that's good, it's the new cases with testing as a factor.
The lower deaths and use of respirators is likely due to keeping visitors out of nursing homes and those over 60 being more conscientious about sheltering in place.
We have needed and continue to need prioritizing PPE and critical supplies for medical workers and first responders and then get to the point we can prioritize those same supplies for the highest risk group.
We could have already been ahead of this with increasing testing and manufacturing/distribution of supplies.
And, why didn't we? Because some clueless , just out of college opposition researcher who probably didn't know how to wash his own clothes, decided the past quick responses to prior novel viruses that turned out not to be as deadly would work as a political attack to show a " waste of tax money".
So, please, those who bought that, please use UV light and disinfectant internally, OK? Just drink Lysol or bleach or peal back the skin over your lungs or bowels ( depending on where CV19 gets you) and go sunbathe.
