While not believing in Conspiracy Theories I do have my thoughts that I hope can be at the minimum respected. I ask no one judge. Fear and panic has wracked this nation and our state driven by media and what I will call, at this point, well meaning politicians and last but not least, all of the so called experts who at times contradict themselves. We, the nation or state, are in any imminent peril of a "Plague of Biblical proportions becoming true. There have been many plagues in the past of mankind that could not wipe out humanity. Enemies have squandered their chance to invade and take us over, which I do believe could have happened easily. We'd be too busy trying to find a mask versus a weapon. Just had to get this off my chest. Thank you.

Pretty much syncs up with spring break three weeks ago. Given the lag in showing symptoms, the scarcity of tests and the delay in getting test results, we will see a big drop off three weeks after the serious shut downs started. This is week two. I’m predicting April 25 is the big day for serious drop in new cases.

The data cannot be trusted from MS. Way too much up and down to get any sense of anything. I would say only 10% of MS is staying home so the shelter in place order should be lifted. Let these poor few places that are not deemed essential get back to business.

I'm not getting my hopes dashed yet. Huge spikes in the March 20-27 date of symptom onset. This is still likely reflecting the spring break infections that happened before the initial social distancing recommendations that came out on March 16. That's the problem with only testing the extremely sick and taking the better part of a week to get the results. We have absolutely no way to know what things are like right now as far as the transmission of the disease. We are looking at a snapshot of how things were a couple of weeks ago.

Its almost all to do with when test results are received. I am told by a physician that the results from labs are returned in groups/batches depending upon where they were submitted, to the state or to private labs. Thus, the up and down new numbers.

about a week ago, there was a serious run on grocery stores right after the governor announced the stay at home. id wager that the spike is due to the panic buying..waiting in a long line in a crowded store...look for it to really go up the next few days...

90% is probably a bit sarcastic no doubt, but if anyone thinks most MS are abiding by a shelter in place order you are delusional. Should we be abiding by it? Yes, but the simple fact is we are not as a majority. So the side affects of an order that is not effective is therefore worse than good it does.

My guess is 250,000 "cases" (infected) with 3,000 or so tested and positive.

There’s still a huge time lag with test results. I’m hearing 7-12 days. There are also some limited one day tests that are being done but the bulk are still using the lab confirmed testing method so there will be a time lag for results. But ultimately, these numbers are infinitesimal. Statistically insignificant.

Where can one find the number of tests conducted yesterday versus the number of tests done the previous day?

A much quicker and smarter solution is to roll people back into the economy. For example, grocery store workers have been exposed to the virus and we should be seeing the effects of that in less than two weeks.

Other areas should be rolled back into the economy such as barbers, beauticians, clothing stores, churches and then in two more weeks, more stores, and in 30 days more group gathering businesses like movie theaters and sporting events.

This way we don't overwhelm our hospitals. Remember, the goal is not to stop the spread, it's to "SLOW THE SPREAD"

IMHO, just a common guy, seems hospitalization/ICU/vent numbers day to day would be more indicative of what’s going on. Positive test could be a correlation of increased testing.

Probably. Maybe. Not 10% of the population but maybe you could. Multiply some number by 10% or maybe 20%. I mean this completely seriously. You are absolutely right and that is the entire problem. Knowing the math is easy - the formula is X x Y% = Z. The problem is that no one _really_, _actually_ knows X, Y or Z so there is absolutely no way _ANYONE_ can give any "good" number. All that can be done at this point is to take the data as it comes and try to get as close as possible.

What any and every knowledgeable person can tell everyone is that:

Dear God. 7/10ths of a percent of Mississippians have tested positive. I know you CCoJ and ditch-walking lawyer types on here can't do math, so let's break it down to something you can understand. Take your Yeti 110 and fill it up with ice (make sure its from Twice the Ice and not your good bourbon ice at the house). Take 2 ice cubes out. That's how much of the population has tested positive in Mississippi. Take one more out and that's a little bit more than have tested positive in the US. Now, for the economic comparison, put that cooler in the back of you Yukon Denali get on 49 headed to 30A and get up to you standard cruising speed of 105 and push the rear gate open and let that bad boy fly all over the highway...that's the economic impact that our emergency management gurus believe is necessary to deal with this.

You have your choice A government powerful enough to protect you from this extremely dangerous virus that is clearly worse than cancer, or dying for your stupid belief in freedom.

257/82 counties= 3.13 new cases per county average today (I understand cases are not equally distributed- just putting it in a different context)

2206 total case since testing began/82 counties= 26.9 total cases per county on average (This is about equal to the size of one classroom in a public school.)

2206/3 million residents= 0.00073 or 0.07% of MS population

It has been over a month since we have KNOWN this was in the US. We have 0.07% of our MS population with a confirmed diagnosis since testing began and the sky is falling. If this was growing exponentially like many on here would have you believe, would this number not be much higher?

@1:25 Generally good ideas even if maybe a little too fast. Restaurants and movie theaters can certainly take steps to spread the customers out. Large events, on the other hand, are likely way too risky to start back until there is an effective treatment or vaccine. New Orleans is a prime example of how a few infected people can cause a major epidemic when you have thousands of people packed together and being rambunctious.

A prohibition on gatherings or events that involve more than 500 people would be prudent, particularly as fall approaches and the expected second wave starts to kick in. There is no way to stop the disease until we have an effective treatment or vaccine, but we also need to ensure we aren't going to suddenly get hundreds of new infections that will take them back to their local areas and cause a massive outbreak.

2:36, you nailed it. Most of the rest of these posting pundits apparently don't read any of the other comments, as their ignorance shines bright as evidenced by much of their useless dribble.

Just pointing this out. While things like obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc., are widespread, they are often due to lifestyle choices (not _always_, _often_) and do not put a sudden strain on a particular health care provider. But most importantly, they aren't contagious. If a person wants to eat/drink themselves into health problems, at least insofar as the personal effects of it, they can only do it to themselves, not innocent bystanders trying to lead reasonably healthy lives.

And that may be a good way to help some visualize it:

Suppose you and your spouse lived a reasonably healthy lifestyle by eating healthy foods, no or moderate drinking, exercise, etc. and you taught your children similar healthy lifestyles - BUT - everyone was randomly assigned 3 other people each and your health depended largely on THEIR lifestyle choices rather than your own. So, if the 3 people assigned to you and one of your kids were morbidly obese alcoholic drug addicts who ate nothing but large amounts of junk food and the two of you suffered the consequences of THEIR choices, but your other child and spouse got lucky and were "assigned" 3 people each who led healthy lifestyles so they received the benefits of that even if they ate poorly, etc. Who would like or tolerate such a situation? Well, that's a bit like COVID-19. You, your spouse, and your kids may take reasonable precautions, wash your hands, etc., but do you want your family's health to be mostly dependent on what a bunch of random strangers around you, many of them who seem to take pride in making very poor choices, choose to do about their health?

The thing about "the media" is that you can ignore it. It's like icing on cake. You can eat it or not.

Don't blame "the media" for (1) people's outrageous overreaction, or (2) their outrageous complacency. Put the blame where it belongs - on each individual person in this country who self-determines how they want to respond to C-19.

If people chose to overreact, then they are going to be lambasted by others. If people chose to act like this is "just the flu", then they are going to be Lysoled or pepper-sprayed by masked and gloved shoppers at Kroger.

Don't let the fact that 95% of deaths had an underlying contributing factor give you too much comfort. Mississippi has a hypertension rate of 40%, an obesity rate of 30% (up to 45% in some adult populations), a diabetic rate of 12%, and many others who are immunocompromised because of things like lupus, arthritis, MS, cancer, etc.

When you look at it overall well over half the population is suffering from some factor that makes them at high-risk for serious COVID complications. An uncontrolled epidemic would result in many, many deaths.
