Video of Governor Tate Reeves' press conference today is posted below.
The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District issued the following statement.
The National Weather Service said Monday at 9 a.m. that the Pearl River is cresting in Jackson at the Highway 80 gauge, where the river was at 36.67 without significant change recorded over the past four hours.
Despite that peak, other areas, particularly in Northeast Jackson and in Rankin County along the river, reported a 38-foot river in the Highway 25 area north to the Barnett Reservoir dam. The original predicted crest was 38 feet.
Officials at Barnett Reservoir on Monday morning began reducing outflows through the dam, with another reduction planned for 6 p.m. After holding a discharge of 75,000 cubic feet per second overnight, the outflow was dropped to 70,265 at 9:15 a.m.
“We saw the lake start to respond Sunday night, and the level dropped to below 298 feet this morning,” said John Sigman, General Manager of the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, an agency of the State of Mississippi that operates the 33,000-acre lake.
“We still need to create storage space in the lake for the rain in the forecast for this week, and balance that with the flood concerns downstream. The good news is that inflows into the lake are falling and will fall very rapidly going forward.”
Sigman said the plan was to reduce the outflow through the dam to 65,000 cubic feet per second at 6 p.m. and hold to that rate until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Praise Cthulu and Dagon whose wrath we were spared!
Looting has already been reported by the local media, while the JPD management has multiple patrol cars/officers guarding a friggin' road to keep lookie-loos from walking on....wait for it.....DRY PAVEMENT!
Apparently visuals of officers guarding a piece of pavement are more beneficial to radicalism than preventing looting.
Way to go, mayor flap jaw, aka Baby Chok.
At least for some, if not many, prayers were answered.
LMAO CYA time for ol' John Sigman. He's caught flat-footed screwing up the release in the first 48 hours of the event and now needs to cover his tracks to avoid scrutiny. The scrutiny is coming Johnny. The scrutiny is coming.
Booo! I was hoping for skycopter 3 footage of looting and violence and drowned hood rats floating around the Coliseum!
Can anyone tell me if Romantic Adventures was spared? I need to make a return because I got stood up on Valentines Day.
This is the first mention of a HWY 25 gauge I've seen. In this situation , isn't that the gauge most of the attention should be focused on ? Why in the world are they just now mentioning it ?
Have you notice all the trash & floatsom in the flooded area. Don.t people in Jackson know how to use a trash can?
@10:38 - you’ve been asked several times to support your baseless accusations and you haven’t responded. Why is that? Put up or shut up.
You people are truly SICK!
Many prayers for those who are losing their homes and businesses to this disaster.
I’d like to see a new gage added at Lakeland dr on the Pearl.
@10:28 Dagon.... If that was an Elder Scrolls reference my hat is off to you sir.
This is the first mention of a HWY 25 gauge I've seen
More BS by Sigman to cover his butt and screw-up.
10:38 & 12:08, same person as on the other post, must have gotten fored from PRVWSD. Still complaining, yet still not saying what he/she would do different. All talk, no stones. Bet he/she is a hydrology expert.
...we believe that it is expected to be.....that’s our governor butchering the English language.
and 10:28 declares praise for fictional god-like characters created by writer H.P. Lovecraft 100 years ago. You're really working hard to be unique, aren't you?
@12:44
Dagon is a Canaanite god.
I am very happy that the river crest was lower than expected. I feel badly for everybody who has been flooded. I was in 1979 and 1983 and it is a nightmare. I am not a hydrology expert but that was not a 38 foot river in NEJ because if it was I would have been flooded too and I was not.
I guarantee that there's not a single one of your numb-nuts that could do any better than Sigman. I'm not saying that he's managed the spillway's output perfectly, but as Kingfish has said somewhere, it's not an exact science trying to manage the release of billions of gallons of water all the while trying to maintain the integrity of the reservoir dam. But go ahead all you experts and keep criticizing a job that you know absolutely nothing about. There's some of you boneheads that couldn't close an umbrella. And no, I'm Sigman's buddy or brother; I don't even know and have never met the man.
I'm amazed no one is talking about elevations instead of gauges. A reading of 38' at highway 25 means nothing to a property owner if you don't know the elevation of the gauge at 0 feet. I believe the elevation of the hwy 80 gauge is 233.7 ft . Who are these people anyway ?
The idiots who think Sigman makes the decision to open and close the gates by himself should go crawl back in your momma crawl space.
Interesting that Credell and David Archie nor the mayor were in the back drop of Tate's presser.
Easy, 1:18 (#1). As far as I can tell, there are only one or two commenters blaming Sigman. Not everyone is your enemy.
I guarantee that there's not a single one of your numb-nuts that could do any better than Sigman.
I guarantee that you don't really know.
What's more appalling is this was picked up by national news in short time. The months long Yazoo/Steele Bayou backwater flood of last year and starting again this year has not been.
4:27. Nailed it.
Not commenting either negatively or positively on the handling of the flood gates, but, can someone tell us what the credentials and education are of John Sigman? Should we not have a right to know? He is the only head of a state agency referred to as 'general manager'.
Hate to say it but this is what happens when your house or office is in a flood zone. I can honestly say the 1979 flood caught many people off guard but if you moved into these areas after 1979 then you shouldn’t be surprised when it floods.
