Meadowbrook shootout

JPD issued the following statement:

On Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at approx. 1:30 AM, Jackson Police Officers responded to 1941 Meadowbrook Rd. regarding a shooting. Upon officers’ arrival, it was learned that two victims had been shot. An unidentified 18 year old black male sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to UMMC for medical treatment. He is listed in critical condition. There was also a deceased unidentified black male subject located in the residence. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Officers located an uninjured 7 year boy in the residence.

During the preliminary investigation, it was learned there was an alleged home invasion at this location due to evidence recovered from the scene. The deceased male appeared to have been an alleged suspect in the home invasion, and he appeared to be armed at the time of the incident. It is unknown at this time if other suspects were involved in the home invasion itself, and it is also unknown if there were any other occupants in the residence at the time of the incident.Vice/Narcotics Detectives responded to the scene and recovered a substantial amount of illegal
narcotics from the residence as well.

This is an ongoing investigation. Robbery/Homicide Detectives are seeking further information regarding this incident. Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or 601-355-TIPS (8477).

Kingfish note: It appears this was a dope deal gone bad or a shootout between some dopers.  The home is owned by Davis Peterson.  The property tax records still show that it belongs to the estate of Marjorie Glascock.  She died in June 2016.  The estate was closed in October and the house was sold to Mr. Peterson.  The house was apparently rented out to this dope boy.

Deceased is 25 year-old Jacoby Davis.

Jesus!! Is it wrong that I am comforted knowing that this was not a random act of violence? AND...lets talk about that 7 year old.....?

Somebody help me. Is this or is this not Eastover? It's on the south side of Meadowbrook and east of Ridgewood.

Actually, let me rephrase the question: before this incident, was 1941 Meadowbrook Road part of Eastover?

The ripples are reaching the "good parts" of town....

*cue old white men in Madison talking about how awful Jackson is getting *

11:20-This is "leftover." My house backs up to this backyard and my husband heard the gun shots and screeching tires.
Most of the neighbors know each other and there are few rental properties. 11:10- Have to admit I too was relieved it wasn't random.

Anonymous said...

No. This address is not listed as part of Eastover. It doesn't technically start until Honeysuckle.

"Let me google that for you."

Shootout in Eastover!

Anonymous said...

11:40 according to the map, Eastover starts 2 houses before Dogwood (on the Meadowbrook side). But no, it didn't happen in Eastover.

I guess the homeowner didn't do his/her due diligence before renting it out. Yikes.

This illustrates what you Jackson haters don't get: the vast majority (almost all) of the crime in Jackson comes from two things -- drug related crimes and domestic violence situations. If you avoid the drug culture and get along with your significant other, you are not likely to encounter crime in Jackson. I would add that the crime that doesn't fall into these two categories -- i.e. random crime -- mostly happens at night after about 10 p.m. and can be avoided by staying in your home after that time.

I thought this was the 'nice' part of Jackson. At least the residents are killing them selves off at fast enough of a rate where Jackson might can be reclaimed someday.

Anonymous said...

12:09pm gets it. Most people do not. SAD!

Anonymous said...

This was, is, and will continue to be a nice part of town. Bad things happen in nice places. There is crime in Madison, Ridgeland, Flowood, etc.

I live down the street and will continue to do so. The haters and losers (of which, sadly, there are many) can all stay in Gluckstadt, 20 minutes away from anywhere decent to eat enjoying a largely false sense of security. We don't need your opinions on our neighborhoods that have (1) trees and (2) more character than your ticky-tacky mini McMansion that looks identical to your neighbor's.

Anonymous said...

Wow, that's a relief.... only a house or 2 from REALLY being in Eastover! Yeah, those bullets and screechy tires can't penetrate that line!

Anonymous said...

Landlord and neighbors asleep at the wheel here. Someone should have caught this sooner

Sad These Two Young Men Were Shot.

Were Parents Not At Home At The Time?

@12:53
That decent place to eat is called my kitchen and dining room. As for trees, I'll pass on living among shaky 40 foot pines near my power lines. And if you really don't think the majority of homes in any "neighborhood" or "subdivision" in NE Jackson (or most other parts of Jackson) don't look fundamentally similar, then, I don't know what to tell you. Live where you live, like what you like and move on.

Kingfish said...

All right, lay off the Jackson v. the world debates. Worn out.

Anonymous said...

Have the cops been called to residence before? Were the current tenants on JPD's radar for drug activity or suspects in property crimes around the area? If the immediate neighbors aren't surprised, then there's part of the problem. With many residential areas of Jackson not being subject to covenants, observant and pesky neighbors are about the best we can hope for.

Anonymous said...

The Jackson v. the Universe debate is still alive and well. Tatooine is a cakewalk in comparison.

Anonymous said...

Police have identified victim as 25 yo Jacoby Davis. Wonder what his background is?

Avery Wiseman said...

@1:14 hit it: "Live where you live, like what you like and move on."

Anonymous said...

I own rental property down the street from here. As long as they pay the rent on time, I leave them alone. It's not my job to snoop around into their personal lives. My tenants pay on time, and in cash. It likely is drug money, but since they pay me on time and don't damage my house I don't care. Good luck finding someone wanting to rent in that area that isn't on drugs. I'm just thankful I care enough about my family to not purposefully endanger them by living in an area like that.

Anonymous said...

11:20 - NOT Eastover, but on one of the paths into.
And calm down Pitt at 11:41!

Anonymous said...

Neighborhood knowledge is not a strong suit on this blog. This area has always been referred to the "Reservation" given the names of the adjoining streets.

Anonymous said...

3:24 I bet you love making sure that undeclared illegal drug rent money doesn't get reported to the IRS. As long as that money is green you "don't care".

don't worry crime will end after everyone became a vegan. You see Pamela Anderson and Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba will save the city of Jackson along with Fresh Market. This will help Stokes lose weight, and he'll became a republican. ok, that last one was radical. Free Donuts at JPD.

That is not LOHO. LOHO is bounded by Meadowbrook Road on the north, Ridgewood Road on the east, Eastover Drive on the south, and I-55 on the west. Not sure what that particular neighborhood is named but THAT IS NOT LOHO!

Louis LeFleur said...

Technically this neighborhood is part of Little Europe because of the names of the streets on the other side of Meadowbrook. The Reservation is the neighborhood to the south of where this house is.

Anonymous said...

5:23pm, I agree. Not LOHO at all. The area where the shooting occurred is sometimes referred to as Eastover but it is not Eastover in terms of being a part of the HOA. But you have to understand, this could have just as easily occurred between white folks in Eastover proper. I understand that every now and then ladies act up and end up in the wrong bed over there.

Anonymous said...

Love all these technical hair-splitting definitions of "this-line" and "this-side-of-the-street" as if it means anything to folks who help grow the new culture.

Anonymous said...

Agree with you @ 3:42. I do actually have a rental house about a block away from the crime. I rent it to an attorney. The street is a wonderful street with established neighbors. The last time I advertised I was appalled at the number of calls I got asking if I take HUD vouchers. The rent was $1800/ mo. More than one said they could fill the gap the voucher wouldn't cover out of pocket. I would never do that to my neighbors or the value of my property. And I get pd by check, deposit the money, report it to the IRS, and pay the taxes no matter how dull.

Anonymous said...

Can someone explain what LOHO means ?

Is this like NIKNAR or something ?

Anonymous said...

Good for you, 7:44. I prefer to rent mine for cash. I find it laughable this neighborhood is so naive.

Anonymous said...

@7:44

It's likely for failed lawyer is on drugs as well. I've never had a tenant that wasn't. Regardless of employment.

Anonymous said...

@8.27 I'm sorry that is your experience. I once was a renter. My husband was once a renter. 3 of my children are renters. None use drugs. Did your parents buy you a house when you first moved from your parents' home?

Anonymous said...

This is going to be a long summer.
As the temperature rises crime rises.

Has JPD captured the perks who beheaded a man in Jackson?
I have renter living next door to me. She's a great looking young lady
who lets it all hang out. She is a good neighbor. I have no complaints.

Again, what the hell does LOHO mean ?

LOHO stands for Leftover HomeOwners' Organization.

Meadowbrook Shoutout thread for my peeps.

Oh. Shootout...

This hits close to home - my old home. I lived a couple of houses over, but have a lot of good memories there.

Anonymous said...

The house is located on Meadowbrook Rd, near the "Indian Nations". I say near, because it's on Meadowbrook, which is a feeder road. The house's back line backs up to the "Indian Nations", specifically Cherokee.

Indian Nations is part of the Meadowbrook Hills neighborhood and this property is part of the "official" Meadowbrook Hills neighborhood.

Meadowbrook Hills Plat

On Nextdoor, that section of Meadowbrook Rd is shown as part of the "Little Europe" neighborhood.

I walk in this area every day and there is another rental house a few streets north over at the corner of Southwood and Eastwood that looks like another drug house. One of the persons staying there can be seen, any time of the day, sitting in his vehicle (that never moves) and appears to be waiting for a car to pull up. He gets out and goes and sits in the arriving vehicle. No one ever gets out of the different arriving vehicles, engines stay running but he conducts his business, gets out and the cars leave.

I suspect drug dealing because when I walk on Fridays, business picks up.

Anonymous said...

@10:03 it likely is drug dealing. That's the type of stuff that happens in the ghetto. So it should be expected in that part of town.

PittPanther said...

10:03, if I saw drug dealing in my neighborhood where I walk everyday, I would be in the a$$ of the police, my councilman, and mayor, making sure something gets done about it. What have you done about this?

Anonymous said...

10:03. You're telling me that you just casually walk by this and have done zilch? Are you kidding me? Why don't you call the police? The authorities want to be notified of this so they can patrol and see if anything is going on. You can report anonymously as well.

Anonymous said...

I can't decide what is funnier. The idiots that are surprised about drugs being in the ghetto, or the idiots who think JPD will do something about it.

Anonymous said...

Eastover is the same as any other neighborhood in Jackson made up of public access roads and is not some private, protected entity. Most of the houses are cheaper than in many subdivisions outside of Jackson and even in parts of "leftover". I live here and it's gone downhill just as much (if not more) as every other part of Jackson. The streets are a mess; the security patrol drives erratically and is comprised of nothing more than cheap vehicles driving around and pulling over frequently on the side of the road for the driver to nap. Not so reassuring. The houses are old and most people who live here can't afford to raze them and re-build on the lot. When new houses are built, they're built of cheap material and the older houses for sale stay on the market for a ridiculous length of time because no one wants to invest here. Why would they? I completely understand not wanting to move to Madison or the other areas outside of Jackson; however, staying here simply means living with a permanent feeling of unease. I know people get fired up about their pride in Jackson (I understand their nostalgic feelings), but if my children were still young I would be moving out-of-state to a nicer town as soon as I could. It makes me sad to think of what this place will be like in 10, 20, 30+ years. There's a reason people call Jackson the South's Detroit. Stay safe, everyone!

That's a whole lot of effort to troll. About the only thing you said that resembles the truth is the state of the roads.

Anonymous said...

PittPanther, et al:

I did not state that I saw drug dealing, nor did I state it was in my neighborhood.

I simply stated what I have observed. As to notifying JPD, yes, I have notified our Precinct Commander of my observations. He stated he would send cars by. This was many months ago.

Anonymous said...

This thread really belongs on Nextdoor, where street / area descriptions mean something. Irrelevant here.
While I'm here...
Quit making up shit, 6:14. You don't "understand" anything.
3:06, Chief Vance has tried. He arrests, courts release.
And 3:14, I live here too, and I see something completely different. Houses are being renovated all over and around the areas described here in detail. But yes, let's all be alert and safe, wherever we live.

Anonymous said...

4:29 -- I live right next door to 3:14...definitely not a troll! But we enjoyed a good laugh from someone who actually spends his or her time using that word instead of engaging in actual communication. Still wish you safety and blessings, wherever you live! And don't call people names; never a good look for anyone.

4:40 -- Everyone has different standards and opinions. Glad you're satisfied with the neighborhood and agree with the need for alertness!

Thanks, Kingfish, for keeping everyone posted!

Anonymous said...

No, 9:54, you don't live next door to 3:14. You are 3:14.

Please allow me to relay what the good laugh me and my right next door neighbor at 4:40 was about. It's about nouns, verbs and adjectives and whatnot and comprehending what they are in actual communication.

We laughed at someone who spends his or her time trying to pretend they are posting as someone else and anyone else believes them. Now, please forgive us if you are actually posting as someone else... like... a second or third personality.

Anyways, back to our laughs. We were laughing at how it just isn't a good look for anyone to say "don't call people names" when the person they are addressing didn't call anyone names. We (we being my right next door neighbors on the North, on the South, on the East and on the West sides)..... oh, heck... did I mention that we included our other neighbors? I can get them to post anonymously also if it will make your personalities feel better...

Gosh darnit, I did it again. I apologize for getting off-topic. You see, I said, "That's a whole lot of effort to troll." Now, we had a few glasses of Chardonnay, or "Shart, you don't say" if we drink too much..... but we had a few glasses and decided to see what Mary Ann Webster has to say about that word troll. Seems it is one of those transitive words with more than one definition and.... lo' and behold... I used it correctly AND didn't call anyone names. One of the definitions (verb) is "to antagonize (others) online by deliberately posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content".

Now, see.... I will kindly thank you for wishing me safety and blessings and frankly tell you that I don't believe you when you say will give me and mine well wishes. Everyone has.... well.... different everything. Some people just choose to TROLL with inaccurate information and try to hide it behind their anonymous right next door neighbor personality.

I say all that after titty-pinching 4:40 for saying the area descriptions don't matter.

Anonymous said...

5:54 seriously needs some counseling and AA. Grammar lessons would be helpful as well. Am I a troll now, too, along with the other guys? Fine by me! Get help, buddy. Just had to stick up for the polite people on here. I think this thread has run its course.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
