What will MDOC do?

Will  a northeast Jackson carjacker go back to prison? Here is the MDOC record on John Gwegowy Rollins:

Rollins was sentenced  on 3/23/11/ in Hinds County for
·         burglary – vehicle  and received one year and one day to serve and three years probation
·         credit card fraud  and received 10 months.
He was released on probation on 5/25/11, but his probation was later revoked. He was resentenced on 12/1/11 for the burglary conviction and received three years to serve with no probation. He spent 122 days in jail before being sentenced

He was sentenced for
·         Shoplifting on 9/18/12 to 1 year and 1 one day to serve with four years probation.
He was released on probation on 5/12/14. His probation was later revoked.
He was sentenced again on 1/22/15 for  vehicle theft and received 1 year and six months to serve and 3 years probation.
He was released again on probation on 7/10/15. When his probation was revoked on 8/14/15 and he was sentenced to the technical violation center for 180 days.

Court records state he received a suspended prison sentence of 3 years, 6 months on January 27, 2015 for motor vehicle theft.   He also received a suspended prison sentence of 3 years and 364 days on September 9, 2012 for shoplifting as well.  He was arrested recently for stealing a car.  His victim posted this message on Facebook:

Today I was car jacked at a very nice, well known, Northeast Jackson business. The part of town where I grew up, my grandparents settled there, and my mom grew up as well. I am thankful that my babies were not in the car because he would have taken them with him. God was watching over us today. JPD did an amazing job, and within 30 minutes of making the 911 call, the monster was caught and they recovered my car. I have had many firsts today... being a victim of a crime, I have ridden in 3 police cars today(once in the back), been to my crime scene where he caught my car on fire, and went downtown to write a two page report so this monster will stay in jail. Tomorrow morning I go to court to make sure he stays locked up. I am beyond angry.
Kingfish note: The District Attorney should charge Rollins with carjacking if the charge is warranted.  MDOC should use every means possible to impose the suspended sentence on Rollins so he can reflect on his wrongdoings for quite some time.

And for you 25% idiots in the legislature, hope you are happy.  This is the crap produced by your 25% get out of jail free card.

notice that he graduated from non-violent property crimes to a very violent offense. the legislature really made all the DAs jobs much more difficult, but the impact is really huge in Jackson and other densely populated counties with heavy criminal dockets where you can rarely try non-violent cases because of the priority [at least should be] for the violent offenses.

Why do thug criminals like this keep being released to have the opportunity to continue their lives of crime?

Gut the church laws from the penal code.

Prison space, prosecutorial & judicial resources would be instantly available.

Or we could just keep doing what are doing (and cannot afford to continue).

Just kill him. He'll never be a productive member of society. He will just reproduce hoards of spawn that are very likely to grow up to be just like him, or worse. It would be a favor to all of society to just go on and put him down.

KF,

You obviously do not have a good understanding of pre-585 and post-585 workings of the criminal justice system. Prior to July 2014, anyone incarcerated for any offense was allowed to receive as many administrative reductions to their sentence as the law allowed. HB 585 placed a, for lack of a better term, "mandatory minimum" on the amount of time an inmate would serve BEFORE the administrative reductions could be applied.
The "25% idiots", as you called them, worked for a more definitive time inmates would serve. No "get out of jail free card" has been issued as a result of HB 585.

But it does make it more fun to pretend that is the case in an effort to cast blame to a particular entity.

Stick with what you're good at: blame it on the DA and his assistants for recommending suspended sentences - not MDOC or the state legislature...this time at least.

It's crazy to me that there isn't enough space in the jails to keep offenders like this incarcerated. What types of prisoners are taking up all of the beds? Are there just tons of offenders like this, or are we keeping the wrong people locked up? Or do we simply not have enough jails?

I see articles like this one that make it sound like we're on the right track as a state, but when will be see the results?

Does anyone have any information on the sentences and time served relative to the crimes committed by inmates in Mississippi's prison population? I would be interested to see if we're holding non-violent drug offenders for longer than we're holding career criminals like this one.

Criminals are money makers. Not especially for the criminals but they do not have to work at a job. They are money makers for law enforcement, courts, judges, and especially lawyers.
None of the above want criminals to stay in jail. If they put criminals in jail like they should they would be out of a job.

Commissioner Epps was well known for favoring release, soon and often. He bragged about getting to know them on a personal level and 'knowing their hearts'. I'm willing to bet he got to know this one on a personal level and 'learned his heart' and supported his release back into the gene pool.

His favorite quote was "We need to figure out who we are afraid of and who we don't like". Whatever the hell that means. I always thought he meant that we lock too many people up simply because we don't like them. He didn't have time to explain it, though, as he was otherwise occupied.

Why can't there be an island,in the middle of nowhere and a long way from anywhere, that these creatures can be deposited on?

12:45, the article you quoted said that half the prisoners in the state are in for non violent offenses. So yes, there are a ton of criminals in prison just like this guy. Breaking into parked cars, stealing cars, breaking into houses, credit card fraud - all non violent, but crimes nonetheless.

Don't know about the rest of you but I don't want these thugs stealing from me even if they say thank you as they are running off with mu stuff. Those stealing from me will be treated the same as someone trying to kill me.

Are you willing to have your taxes increased and to not have funds allotted to things you support?

The problem is also picking and choosing among those in prison to release when there is over-crowding.

Remember hearing about " penal colonies" in school? Ever wonder why that happened? We're running out of funds and places too.

And, for those of you who are certain every non-violent criminal and thief will become a violent criminal eventually and don't understand why over-crowding in jails and prisons is a problem really ought to inform yourselves. Perhaps, you will trust the FBI or Scotland Yard for information!

Quick solution to 'non-violent' criminals is to chop off their right hand and turn em loose.

2:42, there is already such a place. It is really too close to normal people though.
It is called Jackson.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
