Self-serving pablum replete with multiple references to Republican bonafides. BFD.

Letter gives history of OH and overview of houses' operational structure, but leaves many concerns/issues unaddressed.

Very well written letter. Explains a lot. Hope people will let go of prejudices and let this go.

Molloy, founder and person in total control of the Oxford House enterprise for over 40 years, extols to Longwitz that elected OH officers serve but only with limited terms "to avoid bossism". LOL

80-85% of the letter is boilerplate.

Explains a lot.

Since the letter didn't carry the day what does it explain?

Not defending OH, but this is political grandstanding by the Senator and Governor. OH has done their due-diligence, and the politicos know the OH formula comes under fair housing regs. OH will comply with the regs.

To paraphrase:

"I am a Republican big-wig."

"Let me tell you my life story."

No facts.

Agree with 10:26. I don't support OH, but believe this was a well formed response in the face of political attack.

10:04: The history, operation, structure and kinds of people who live in these houses, which is all that is needed at this point. I'm sure if you want to challenge them in court the response will be much more substantively informative, although not to your liking.

Interesting. Longwitz apologists aren't going to believe anything they read that's counter to their position, and Cochran apologists are going to believe that either he and Kay have fallen in love since December 15 or it's none of our business. I can't decide if that's funny or sad.

Please don't bother letting us know when you do figure it out.

Paul Malloy would do OH a big favor by being up front with the neighbors when starting a new OH instead of sneaking in. He should send out their explanation to all neighbors within 160 feet BEFORE going in, not AFTER. His letter comes many weeks late. Actually, since he advertised the houses for 7 people which would require a COJ use permit, he was required to provide that notice, and make a City application, but he chose to flip the neighbors the bird instead.

Paul Malloy has ignored the City of Jackson's rules for notice, really to the detriment of the image of OH. OH would have pissed off a lot fewer people if he had bothered with following the City's notice provisions for the required use permit. But now he's got a whole City of people pissed off at OH. And it is his fault by his own arrogance. And no, it is not enough to say, as he has, "it does not work that way". Time to change your ways Paul.

Nancy Reagan tended to get things wrong when she got bad advice from her astrologer.

Regardless of the form of the program, most persons have no idea what takes place or how they work (head in sand), many times people don't even know their proximity to a program's place of operation.

What is truly disappointing is that like most issues of discrimination, racism, and general bigotry; we all would want these programs for our loved ones (when WE need them) but not in our backyard.

I remember once in political theory with Dr. Hicks at MC, I and another student debated "white flight", I was a naive sophomore from Rankin county insulated from such issues, I was certain people got along in all places as we did growing up, only later did I realizes how defined our boundaries really where.

I have no great desire to encourage an Oxford House next door to me, but I am certain after some conversation my neighbors and I would not fight it if we were informed of their presence.

Ultimately we have become an collection of closed communities, it would seem that the solution is: We should allocate some land west of the Mississippi, preferably an arid area along the Mexico border, and allow an Oxford style community to develop, they wouldn't need homes as they could build mud houses, they could offset other expenses by securing the border, and based on previous addiction issues they could manage what trade of narcotics did cross the border in a more effective and managed manner.

Just saying.......

Believing that you represent your neighbors? Looks like you remain very naive after all these years 3:31 PM.

3:31 That is such a truly touching, thoughtful and constructive suggestion, I'm sure Paul will take it to heart.

"most persons have no idea what takes place or how they work (head in sand)"

Both have been laid forth on this website extensively over the last several months (and the insult is just unnecessary).

"discrimination, racism, and general bigotry"

Well... that was easy.

"I am certain after some conversation my neighbors and I would not fight it if we were informed of their presence."

Liar. You'd move.

Houses directly next door to the OHs @ 1365 East Northside and @ 4408 Forest Park have been put on the market. Anyone who doesn't believe it will take an OH discount to move those properties don't know jack squat about selling real estate. Molloy doesn't have the stones to come to Mississippi and talk to the neighboring homeowners in NE Jackson.

to the (still) naive 3:31

For someone who claims they went to MC, we presume you didn't complete your education there.

Anonymous said...

Paul, please give us your home address in Silver Spring, MD so we can all get on Google maps and see how grand it is. And did you put an OH next door? Wouldn't want to diminish that DC area property value, huh?

Anonymous said...

sure thing @9:37 Am... let them move in to YOUR house and maybe even babysit your kids! What do you say? Let YOUR prejudices go and BOOM! your children suddenly have a dozen new uncles!

Anonymous said...

IF the houses on Forest Park and Northside Drive take a hit it will be because you dumb asses made such a big deal about the one at 2230. There are plenty of reasons real estate in these neighborhoods isn't exactly hot, but have you all ever heard of a self fulfilling prophecy? Your hero could have tried to address the DMH in private, but no, it's an election year and there's publicity to be had. You created your own problem.

Paul left out some of the more charming aspects of his life. He got his political-insider job from his wife's side of the family. Her grandfather was Vermont Senator Philip Barre. He then tried to kill her and they divorced. Fast forward that political track serves him well. Paul is correct in his letter that Oxford Houses grow wherever they have political support insulated from public interference like in Texas. Since Oxford Houses provide no services, they are profitably and blissfully separate from need.

So; The posters at 9:37, 10:26, 11:12, 11:19, 3:31 and 10:20, all either being the same person, or two people at best....marching quickly as instructed would have us believe that she/they (both of them) came here to this blogsite with an open mind? And based on a 'well written and informative response from OH', entered into a period of quiet contemplation and decided to welcome OH with open arms. Right? Really?

Each of those posts is typed on the same keyboard. Each of them uses the same threatening language slathered with an appropriate sauce of alleged racism and bigotry, finger pointing, charges of unwelcoming neighborhood bullying, inability to understand federal law and boisterous bragging of 'you people just wait and see'.

None of those posts was written by a graduate of MC and none is from a neighbor or anyone in Jackson who has been convinced (by a study of the issues) to support OH. All of the posts in support of OH are written by those who stand to profit financially. How complicated is it to see that?

The only laws broken have been the neighbours of 2230 ENside that have been peeping in Windows, rumbling through their trash( sorry that's just weird not breaking law) and coming drunk and threatening on their property. Or how about the party next door that had a live band pounding loud music all night along with cars parked everywhere. However this is neither here nor there, this is about Mr Malloy's letter. It was well written and gives the history of and the basis of how an OH runs. Everyone should also read MDMH response to get the facts, they addressed every concern the senetor had stated in his letters. I believe the people living in these houses have handled themselves with dignity in the face of all this, perhaps you all should learn a lesson from this.

The only laws broken have been the neighbours of 2230 ENside that have been peeping in Windows ...

Was the Jackson Police Department contact and was a complaint filed?

8:33am:
" ...rumbling through their trash".

I am having the same problem. I am getting reports that men unknown to me in jumpsuits (North Koreans? NKVD?) are taking my trash every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon in broad daylight! It just disappears!

10:06 yes the police were called. And 11:20 is that the best you can come up with?

Anonymous said...

Kingfish where is the DMH response letter to Longwitz? Neighbors deserve to see this as well.

I seriously doubt that is it. Probably more of a case of MDMH is his yard and woe to any two-bit legislator who dares to cross into it.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
