Desperate or smart? That 'tis the question as an ad in the Mississippi Link asked "democrats to cross over and vote in the republican primary to ensure our community's interest is heard." Republicans asking Democrats to vote in a Republican primary? Interesting.

The McComb Enterprise-Journal is the first newspaper to publish a story about Sergeant Redfruit. The newspaper reported on the escapades between a Mississippi Highway Patrolman and his um, "buddy" at a closed down rest area on I-55 last month. JJ published the first page of the story with the permission of the Enterprise-Journal. The rest of the story is behind a paywall.

Here are the police reports for the arrests of Mark Mayfield and Rick Sager. The report for John Hurt is also included although he was not taken into custody. Sager and Clayton Kelly still reside in the Madison County jail. There is no new information in the reports. Madison will not release any more information until some of these cases are adjudicated.

Nick's is now closed. Wow. JJ called Nick's to confirm. The person answering the phone hung up when the question was posed as to whether Nick's was closed. Staff was sent home today when they showed up to work. Sorry to see this happen. Here is a note from Nick Apostle:
Update: Ready for this? He was arrested in 2012 for armed robbery, carjacking, and using a gun in the commission of a felony. He was scheduled to go to trial in April but Judge Kidd granted a continuance. His trial is scheduled for August 11. Judge Kidd has approved several continuances in the case for plea negotiations. The court file is posted below.

Someone has gone dark since Clayton Kelly was arrested. Red Alert Mississippi (@redalertms)is a pro-McDaniel Twitter account. The account holder has posted over 1,200 tweets since mid-March. Red Alert posted three tweets the morning after the arrest of Clayton Kelly and then went silent. JJ has learned the account-holder lives in Laurel.

The police report for the arrest of Clayton Kelly opens up a window into the alleged conspiracy to photograph the infirm wife of Senator Thad Cochran. The report claims Clayton Kelly, "Mark"*, John Mary, and others began conspiring in February to photograph Mrs. Cochran in her nursing home bed. They intended to use the pictures in an internet video attacking Senator Cochran. Kelly and two other suspects were arrested and charged. JJ obtained the reports through a public records request.

There was no shortage of fireworks in Madison today as three defendants in the Rose Cochran case went before Madison Municipal Court Judge Dale Danks this afternoon. The updates from the courtroom as well as the complete video of the hearing are published below in this post. Judge Danks set bond at $100,000 for Clayton Kelly and $250,000 per count for Laurel teacher and soccer coach Rick Sager and Jackson attorney Mark Mayfield. Madison Police charged all three defendants with conspiracy. Mr. Sager was charged with tampering with evidence as well. Madison police also charged Mr. Kelly with photographing another without permission where there is an expectation of privacy.
Brother just can't catch a break. Madison police charged "Constitutional" Clayton Kelly with the crime of photographing or filming another without permission where there is expectation of privacy. Madison police arrested Mr. Kelly last Friday and charged him with exploitation of a vulnerable adult after he allegedly entered the Alzheimer's unit at St. Catherine's Village, took pictures of an infirm Rose Cochran, and posted them in a Youtube video that was online for a few hours. Mrs. Cochran is the wife of Senator Thad Cochran and has suffered from dementia for over fifteen years.

The Kingfish sat in for KIM Waaaaaaaaaade last Monday. Here is some of the show. Eyes Wide Shut performs a rendition of his hit "Kim Wade is a Black Man" at 9:00 in the second clip.
Who is Mr. Big, oops, I meant the "Big Man"? That is the question. Therese Apel of the Clarion-Ledger snagged two really good interviews with the wife and lawyer of "Constitutional Clayton", otherwise known as Clayton Kelly. Mrs. Kelly claims he was egged on by others into making the ill-fated Youtube video about the Cochrans:

Update II (4:27 PM CST, 5/17/14): The first update was posted between 9:00 and 10:00 AM today. The original post was published at 11:40 PM last night. It did not mention the identity of Rose Cochran. The original headline stated "Madison Police arrest Clayton Kelly for sneaking into St. Catherine's". I changed the headline to reflect the Rose Cochran angle this afternoon. The problem was I posted right before midnight, hence leading to the confusion. My apologies.
Update (5/17/14): Clarion-Ledger beat JJ to it (We were both working on it at the same time although it beat JJ by a few minutes.) but the victim was indeed Rose Cochran, wife of Senator Thad Cochran. JJ confirmed her identity with several non-campaign sources. She has lived at St. Catharine's since 2000 since she suffers from dementia. She lives in a special unit dedicated to such patients. A Youtube video with pictures of Mrs. Cochran in her bed was posted and soon taken down nearly two weeks ago. Story is breaking.
Original post: Madison Police arrest Clayton Kelly for sneaking into St. Catherine's Village.

The Madison County School District went to court to protect students and employees at Madison Middle School from a (allegedly) violent student. U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan, III issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) in April against student "X.N." after he ruled the student committed many acts of violence and was "certain" to cause further harm to others. The district claimed the student suffered from deafness and "certain disabilities" as he became a "danger to school personnel, other students, and himself."

Hinds County Supervisor Peggy Hobson-Calhoun wanted to adopt a "best business practices" resolution at the regular meeting of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors last Monday. Her resolution would direct the Hinds County Economic Development Authority to vet and conduct due diligence on all companies seeking to do business with Hinds County. In other words, the Supervisor wanted to check out companies seeking to get a check from the company. However, Supervisors Robert Graham and Kenneth Stokes fought the measure tooth and nail as is shown in the video below. Can't imagine why they would do so.

And the big fool said to push on. Pete Seeger's 1967 song was a metaphor for Lyndon Johnson and the Viet Nam War. It is now shorthand for a blind escalating commitment to a lost cause.
A good example of a blind escalating commitment to a lost cause: the Kemper County Lignite Plant under construction by Mississippi Power. On April 2 its Southern Company parent announced another construction (and startup) write off of $177 million in its 8K SEC filing. This brings the total cost for the experimental plant to $5.5 billion and counting.

The Hinds County Board of Supervisors wants to charge Jackson more money for housing its prisoners. The county currently operates under an agreement with Jackson made more than twenty years ago under the Ditto administration. The board voted 4-1 two weeks ago to open discussions with Jackson about the contract.

The real Farmer's Market is still open. Not run by the government. (Really, only a gummint bureaucrat would think setting farmer's market hours when people are on their way to work instead of leaving work in the afternoon is a good idea). 7 days a week. Open all day. They are still out there on West Street by the Stadium:
Here is the 2013-2014 budget for Jackson as adopted by the city council last year. Mayor Yarber said on the radio show that the budget has been amended during the fiscal year. JJ will get a copy of the amended version. However, this is a good starting place. There is a great deal of material to digest so any help from the readers is welcome.

The Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond has been no small source of controversy since it opened more than twenty years ago. The jail is poorly designed. There have been several disturbances or riots over the last few years. Sheriff Tyrone Lewis argues prisoners are staying in the jail for too long without going to trial. JJ filed a public records request for a roster of inmates and determine how many inmates are in the jail and when they were arrested.

Update: Held without bond.
Dr. William Mayfield, Jr. was charged with murder after he allegedly killed his wife at their home on 44 St. Andrews last night. JPD told JJ that Susan Mayfield was shot in the stomach. JPD classified it as an act of domestic violence. Dr. Mayfield is in custody and will make his initial appearance this morning in Jackson municipal court. He is a retired opthamologist. Sources informed JJ Dr. Mayfield suffers from Parkinson's Disease and is undergoing treatment.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.
Note: Security provided by INS.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.
If you get tired come relax at the Fox News Tent. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both will entitle you to free drinks.Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required, just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '07 is for EVERYONE!!!
