Indian convenience store owners are complaining about a lack of police presence at their stores. The Clarion-Ledger reported last week:
East Indian store owners (No relation or connection to the East India Tea Company- KF) crowded the Jackson City Council meeting Tuesday and plan to be at Thursday's Council Planning Committee meeting to protest a proposal to require convenience store owners to provide their own security. So they expect the police to do its job and protect their stores. Just one problem. Remember that town hall meeting Mayor Yarber held last week? The Mayor said at last week's press conference that store owners didn't want police cars on their premises:
"We don't have protection at all," said Surinder Singh, a store owner and spokesman for the Indian store owners community. "We are expecting the (Jackson) Police Department to protect us."
Singh said if the store owners have to provide their own security, it will be like they are not part of the community. "We pay taxes. That is what our tax dollars are paying for us to be protected," he said....
"We have police to that job," Singh said of security for their businesses. "Don't pass the buck to someone else to do the job.".....
Puts a different light on it, doesn't it? Especially when one of their stores gets busted for running opium, guns, and stolen merchandise. So do they want the police to help them or not?

This is great. The hoodrats hate the Indians. The Indians don't want to mesh with society anyway, and they generally smell bad. I say let the hoodrats run them off. As much as I despise our hoodrats in Mississippi, they do come in handy at times.
Also, what kind of tax benefits do these Indians get when they come over? I had heard somewhere that they don't have to pay taxes for the first several years. And isn't raw opium a part of some religious ceremony of theirs? Good luck stopping that.
" I had heard somewhere that they don't have to pay taxes for the first several years. And isn't raw opium a part of some religious ceremony of theirs?"
$10 says you can't prove either one of those absurd statements. If the second one was true then opium would be protected under the First Amendment as peyote is.
Yes 9:04 for the crime of operating a profitable business serving areas where no one else has any desire to work because of perpetual crime these folks should be run out of town by thugs. Great logic.
The Indians should get a gold star for operating businesses in parts of Jackson that most of us wouldn't visit on a dare.
If you do business with an Indian, get your money on the front end. Even if you have it in writing, they will wear you down trying to re-negotiate before paying. I despise them, for a variety of reasons. What Larita, and the local guvmint hasn't factored in, is what it would take for them to re-cover the additional expense. The guvmint can raise taxes, but the store owners will have to increase margins, and/or sales volume. The C-Store business is a competitive one, with low profit margins. If a store averages 25% gross profit margin, and the cost of security is $3,000. to $5,000. monthly, holding a 25% margin, would mean having to increase sales $120,000. to $200,000. annually to cover the additional expense. Regardless of their present volume, that would be quite a challenge, so I understand their concern.
The facts is JPD is here to "Protect and Serve" and Jackson residents and business owners are paying taxes for their presence. The evidence confirms they aren't protecting the store owners as they continue to be targeted for crimes. The problem is JPD is reactive to crime at this point and is ineffective at preventing crime. The entire legal system in Hinds county is to blame actually.
Likely, these gas station owners know if the JPD sits in the parking lot, most of their customer base won't visit the store because they are publicly intoxicated, in possession of illegal drugs, or wanted for other crimes.
If these gas stations shut down or move elsewhere, then the thugs will move to other gas stations in the metro. It's probably in the best interest of the Fondren/Belhaven/NE Jackson crowd to keep these stores open.
9:04 needs to be run out of town.
The pompous liberal dipshits are out in numbers this morning. Documentation for their opium ceremonies is readily available online.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to explain in detail how many of these immigrant store owners from East India pay little to no taxes, at least for a while.
Go put your head back up your ass before you hurt yourself.
No business owner should be forced to hire off duty police as added protection. It forces a cost onto the business owner, who in turn has to pass along the added expense to the customer. The local police force is in place for a reason.
I very rarely go to a "C" store. I usually buy my gas a Kroger for a better price. And those rare times I use a "C" store for gas, I get the gas and I'm gone. How ironic that the people who want the Indians gone are the very same people giving them a reason to stay......just don't go to a "C" store.
@ 11:13 - Very true. When you buy gas in 3 dollar intervals, it equates to many visits to a "C" store.
Business owners are free to choose where they open a business (within the proper business zones of course),just as customers are free to shop anywhere they wish. It's pretty simple, if you don't like the crime, leave. If you don't want to risk being hurt or killed, don't shop at these types of business's. Your concerns just take up valuable news space for the current shootings, stabbings, carjackings, home invasions, robberies and domestic dispute murders. "The City with Soul" runs a "tight ship." They be holding all kinds of prayer vigils and meetings to combat crime. Quit complaining or move out.
As seen in the robberies of the International business owners lately, they are being targeted by these thugs due to the large amounts of cash. The majority of these store owners carry large amounts cash and rarely use a bank. These thugs are following these store owners home (usually to a suburb) and robbing them there after casing the victim for several days. If these store owners would use a bank and utilize the police as escorts to the bank (which is already a service provided) then a majority of these targeted crimes could be prevented. We all know that keeping large amounts of cash makes one a target. Could we find a way to get the IRS or State Dept. of Revenue to monitor them and their "cash" business for tax evasion. If we force them to societal norms of banks and common sense, maybe then the crime will minimize. instead of requiring private security, maybe they can require police escorts at closing time or teach them how to vary their routes home. SMH.
Pawn shops have lots of cash on hand. Know why they don't ever get knocked off? Every employee is visibly carrying a firearm. I'd imagine there's a shotgun handy as well. Why don't the Indians just start taking some target practice?
I'm reminded of a rash of store burglaries in the 70's. JPD hid an officer with a shotgun in a Ice Box or something of the sort. When the store got robbed they just came out and took care of business. The burglaries stopped after that.
Unfortunately, JPD officers today are in all likelihood involved in the robberies.
Yep. Pawn shop owners carry guns, have bars on doors and windows and usually access buttons to access the store, but almost all use common sense when making deposits and use a bank. They usually call the police for escort to make deposits. In reality, until the international community begins to utilize the safeguards in place now, they will continue to be a target, even with a security guard there.
They do get very lucrative tax breaks. I believe it is for 3 years. Being in the insurance business, I know there are several people that are tired of dealing with them as well. One LLC owns the business operations, and the the other owns the property at the locations. In 3 years, you get to re-write everything because they sell it to their cousin and they buy theirs. There is no money to be made dealing with the majority them. They get to choose where and what type of business to operate to get the tax breaks, they can pay for their own security. I have zero sympathy for them.
1:40, are these tax breaks unique to the Indian ownership of the business or can anyone do the same thing? I did not know that an LLC helped much with taxes.
LLC notwithstanding, its the swapping between them every 3 years and buying them back after that and keeping the LLC for the property ownership seperate from the operations that lends me to believe something is fishy. I guess it's akin to the lending practices the Fed decided needed to happen when they made it easier to get "sub par applicants" housing loans with little to no down payment(skin in the game if you will). None or all of this may be true, but one thing is for sure, neither are helping the economy.
Anybody who thinks they are saving money by shopping and buying gas at Kroger must be terminally blonde. While you are filling up your SUV with 3 infant seats strapped in the back and your Ole Miss sticker on the window, you are too stupid to realize you paid 14% too much for your groceries.
And is the problem in this scenario REALLY the illegal use of opium? The problem and its root causes have been well covered. Roaches will gather where they are welcome and where there is no resistance to their presence.
The only remaining question is, how far out from central Jacktown do you want this infestation to congregate?
I'll hang up and listen as one of you tax experts cites a reference for these federal, state or city tax abatements laid aside specifically for Indians.
This board is filled with a goodly number of idiots...but none bigger than 5:20.
5:20 you do know you can buy gas at Kroger and NOT get groceries? On second thought, you probably dont know that.
Also, Indians, by and large, are imo a complete loss for out society. They bring in other lower caste Indians and house families in single hotel rooms. They use a maze of LLCs to keep ownership interests vague.
They do not participate in society with others. They are isolated and protectionist.
Worse still, they will steal you blind if you attempt to contract with them in good faith. There is no viable way to conduct business with them.
I say impose the requirement and make them provide monthly reports showing their progress or face closure.
The attitude of October 27, 2014 at 6:17 PM is why Jackson is swirling the drain.
This thread is hysterical!
Somebody...please feed the trolls! Don't let them die of ennui in their hate-infested suburban forts! Don't leave them just "Dawgs vs Rebs" to argue over! Please, somebody say something nice about a minority or gun control or...healthcare!!! Give the trolls something to eat because they obviously are pretty hungry for anything today!
Wow. What a blog. Who would have thought that Racism and Bigotry still rule Mississippi? Who would have thought?
The Old Confederacy, like a headless half rotten snake carcass... still slithers here.
Go to sleep Donna. I mean really go to sleep.

Mississippi by no means has a monopoly on racism and bigotry.
I can think of several other 'liberal' northern states and cities by and large where racism is a key factor, so please spare the 'blame it on mississippi' crap. Hollywood found it's scapegoat a long time ago and they want you to back off of their profit margins. The mainstream media did as well.
It's a cultural issue, not a racial issue.
That's my conservative 'spin'.
"Singhing In Da Rein" is either dancing in acid rein or either one of the singh indians. Kroger and Wal-Mart consistently post the lowest gas prices, and add in, or take away an additional 3 cents per gallon with a card.
Even using ebonics math you should be able to figure this out.
"Singhing In Da Rein" doesn't know that Kroger and Sam's have the lowest gas prices because the gubmint won't let you use an EBT card to pay for gas.
Yet.

What a sad list of excuses you have. "We're not the only bigots." "Liberal states do it too." "Blame it on Hollywood." "It's the mainstream media." And the final whooper "It's a cultural issue."
I'm surprised you didn't blame it on video games.
I'm not referring to hatred and bigotry somewhere else in some other state. I'm referring to what is right here on this page on this Mississippi blog. It's not Hollywood or the media. It's you, right here trying to excuse the inexcusable.
Have any of you been in a foreign ran gas station lately, they are almost always unkempt and run down not saying that that warrants harassment by any means but it seems as if some communities would benefit from less of these "EBT" driven stores. There is an American ran Shell station at the corner of Suncrest and McDowell that if I'm correct has never had a problem with robberies and is open late, it's generally clean on the inside and out, sometimes the appearance of your business can perpetuate what people think they can get away with. Maybe I'm delusional but also there are different sections of South Jackson such as the western section (borders Oak Forest, Cooper Rd, Hwy 18, McDowell;and from Cooper/Forest Hill Rd going south) isn't the complete war zone that South Eastern Jackson(east of Oak Forest to 55 from Hwy 80 to west Woody and Terry rd), granted some may only see it as the lesser of the two evils.
It is a cultural issue. The days of kumbaya are gone.
You can't force someone to like another person or generalized groups for that matter. The same applies to ideas foreign to a persons engrained worldview.
Please brush up on human nature, comparative religion, and psychology. Oh yeah, throw in a dash of history too ( world history, not just mississippi history)
Now what really amazes me, 5:54, is how you reprhased my wording to fit me into a nice neat little 'box'.
He/she is just this or he/she is just that.
How small minded of you trying to 'blackball' me on anonymous forum because of some opinion I rattled off.
This is NOT an exercise in political/ media rhetoric for me, but obviously it is to you.
12:18 is obviously happy with the status quo in this town.
The stores & proprietors... the robbers & shooters... the police &/or no police...
Do not DARE question or suggest any changes for improvement...RACISTS!!
If you fools think Madison Kroger has cheap gas prices you're even bigger fools that it appears. All you people who shop at Kroger in order to 'save at the pump' are idiots. If, instead, you buy gas at Valero, you save ten cents on each and every gallon by using their card. Then you pay it off every month. Compare Valero prices to Kroger and Sams. Idiots I tell ya. Dolts too. Mental midgets. And you vote.
1:53 Facts are stubborn things.
I never mentioned "Madison Kroger", just Kroger. The frontage road Kroger on I-55 is 20 or 30 cents cheaper than the Valero in Madison, which is, unfortunately, the same outrageous price as the Exxon or Shell across the street (location, location, location - ALL the gas stations in Madison are ridiculously expensive compared to other towns, which is why I fill up whenever possible in other towns).
The Valeros in Louisiana, where I was first introduced to them, were very inexpensive. I was very disappointed with the prices when they opened here.
Shopping at Kroger can get you a discount of up to a dollar per gallon, and if you buy those gallons in Jackson you will save a bundle.
Sam's and Murphy's on County Line Road are also very inexpensive. The station across from Murphy's there is currently being dug up - it looks like all pumps are gone right now. They are about a penny per gallon more than Murphy's.
Hugo Chavez posthumously sends his regards.

You seem to have devoted some energy to this. But not even one word condemning the bigotry on this page. Typical.
I have know several people from Mississippi at work. They share some common characteristics. They seem to think that is is very important, and completely exculpatory, to come up with some sort of "excuse" for their poor performance.
As long as Mississippi is concentrated on excuses rather than performance, then the chances of overtaking # 49 of the 50 states is rather slim.
