Guest has been quoted in several media sites as saying there is no evidence the McDaniel campaign was involved.

Politicians are smart - Hey, Richard Nixon was smart and distanced himself from a "third rate burglary", had a great alibi, and several fools to take the fall. But as the screws turned, he had to erase some tape because some electronic communications live forever. And so it could be with phone records, emails. McDaniel should have used the Obama method - say you heard about it on the news, have no idea how this could have occurred, get mad as hell, demand some reports, do some investigating, and demand that the guilty be punished, and hope everything goes away.

Wow I guess now I'll have to change my vote from Thad to McDaniels.

Involved or not, this is still a black eye for the McDaniel camp. It was one thing when it was just some 28 year old blogger from Pearl caught up in this, but bringing in Mayfield puts this on another level. While I don't think McDaniel had anything to do with this, his supporters are clearly a little TOO engaged. It shows a lack of control for his campaign, and a lack of leadership for a would be Senator.

Can some family member post a photo of Mrs. Cochran from happier times, before her illness? All my google searches have Thad with that "other woman."

Mark Mayfield's mother was at St Catherine's for a long time, but she passed away in March. Maybe the visitor's pass was from a visit to her before then?

Guest is apparently denying to the WaPo that he has "cleared" McDaniel.

Cant separate McDaniel from the Tea Party. These people are what the Mississippi Tea party is and up until recently McDaniels was proud to carry the term tea party candidate. It is secure entering or exiting. I was there visiting a friend weeks before this happened and I had to stop at the gate and was stopped when I got to the building.

DA issues his own press release totally opposite of the McDaniel spin. But that's what lawyers in the McDaniel ilk do - spin their stories no matter what the facts are. Actually in this case, it is what McDaniels wants - that he and his staff aren't on any of those computer hard drives, cell phones, etc. But betcha some of the staff members may have their a***holes tightening. Wonder if Mayfield will front for their legal fees too now that he has his own.

As the sands in the hourglass go by, so will their stories.

I really do hate to rain on the parade of all of you Chris McDaniel hating turds but if the DA have ANYTHING, one micro tiny bit of evidence connecting Mr. McDaniel or any of his staff to this photo op he WOULD BE IN JAIL with the rest of them. Having voted for Thad every single election since the early 70s, I am not convinced that Thad even knows what planet he's on right now. All we get out of him is that feeble voice at the end of....err, Thad-for-Senate's ads. I think Thad should debate the challenger, PERIOD! That's what it would take for me to vote for him again.

I recall what a good friend told me a while back about an experience that he had with Washington politicians years ago. When he was a lot younger, his grandfather took him to Washington because he needed to talk to an elderly senior senator about something farm-related. When they arrived in the private dining room, the senator was already seated at the table and had a bib on. He never said anything the whole time and an aide fed feed him. My friend said that every now and then the senator would drool a little out of the corner of his mouth and the aide would wipe that off with a napkin. The lunch consisted of a ranking aide talking to his grandfather and telling him what they'd do and then he and his grandfather left. He said it made a lasting impression.

My own belief about the reason why Thad's ads turned so vicious in the past month is that it may be because McDaniel is perceived as a threat to one particular king-maker's empire. Having seen this kind of wag-the-dog stuff before many times, my own personal belief is that the tenor and content of Cochran's ads in the past month are just misdirection on the king-maker's part, attempting to get everybody to focus on and admire the Emperor's New Clothes.

Didn't we have a governor one time who made a career out of being on Katrina-Duty and whose relatives got busted for fraud involving some $100,000,000 of the Katrina aid fund$? I am thinking that McDaniel may be pretty smart for not blindly turning over our money to these people without any oversight on what it would be spent for.
