Thad Cochran's wife has been a resident in their Alzheimer Unit at St. Catherine's for several years.

I am convinced (my opinion here) that McDaniel is an unethical sleazeball himself, and attracts similarly inclined slime to his campaign.

If indeed, this man was trying to get a picture of Mrs. Cochran, I would not put this past Henry Barbour to have set this up. There is a special place in hell for people like Henry Barbour; he doesn't just start off in the gutter, he lives in the gutter. The suspect apparently took a video of Thad's wife and put it on the net. It has apparently been removed. This is what happens when the Republican Party feeds the beast like they have since 2009.

What kind of twisted mind believes taking a picture of a senator's wife afflicted with Alzheimer's can be used to persuade voters to vote against the senator? If this is true, he is delusional. I was already voting to reelect Sen. Cochran, but if I weren't, I would now. I also think he has been there too long, but at this point I do not see a qualified candidate running against him.

Maybe this tea party member will learn what compassion is when he spends several nights in jail. What is the old adage "birds of a feather flock together"? This was probably done without the express knowledge of McDaniel, but his declarations in the past egged it on. McDaniel is a Ted Cruz wannabe--dear God one is enough. I am supporting Cochran. Why make an issue out of the McDaniel campaign knowing about this last night when the Cochran campaign knows the first JJ article on this was posted last night? There seems to be a lot of misdirection going around instead of addressing the elephant in the room.

I am not a fan of McDaniel by any stretch of the imagination. But I wouldn't pin this on him just because he posed for a picture with the guy.

Remember the Ricen scandal? The accused - Dutschke - was photographed with every local/state/national Republican in the region. But that doesn't mean he was working for them when he carried out his attack on the President.

This makes me so sad. I have known Rose Cochran, and visited with her at St Catherine's in the past. That someone would do this to such a lovely and kind person, is beyond my comprehension. Does anyone have a clue as to what he hoped to achieve by this vile act. I surely hope he serves some jail time to teach him a little respect for the elderly and sick.

I agree 7:59 that it is different from the Allain matter, since Mrs. Cochran is not the candidate. I guess my comment was more towards the fact that there have been really outrageous, slanderous allegations made in political campaigns in the past that were very hurtful of other candidate's families. I feel really bad for her children that now have to worry about the safety of their mother. The idea of a stranger being in her room has got to be terrifying. I would be furious with St. Catherine's and would probably move her to another facility. And I would be concerned if I was any other family that had a relative there.

St. Catherine's Village is the only 'care home' I've ever seen with an armed guard at the gate. Everybody coming through is screened, they're on camera and their ID is noted. Nobody walks in or strolls in or 'sneaks in' behind somebody who opens a gate or door. You can bet your ass some employee was paid to allow access to the facility.

Most retirement homes use the same key code which changes according to month and year. Don't know about this place.

It will be tough to prosecute. You don't have invasion of privacy when you allow visitors and there's limited privacy. Taking a photo isn't a crime that I know of. Although the act was dastardly, where's the crime?

I have no idea what this bonehead/these boneheads thought they would accomplish politically by posting that video. But I do know the HIPAA laws have draconian penalties (up to a $50,000 fine PER EVENT) when personally identifiable health information is disclosed without written consent of the patient or patient's guardian.

Clearly St. Catherine's is on the hook for allowing the patient's face to be placed on the internet , even if they were the victim of some slime. Institutions are supposed to be perfect, under the law, and they would be liable if her husband complained, and maybe even if he didn't, since this is now a public event.

Mrs. Cochran lives in Siena Center at St Catherine's. Employees and family members enter the front door with individual key cards, anyone else must be buzzed in. Folks familiar with the facility know another way in. As someone with parents there, I blame the sick person who did this, not St. Catherine's. My condolences to the Cochran family.

You HR wannabees are topwater turds. HIPAA has nothing to do with this situation. No matter what manner of records the intruder might have absconded with (and he didn't have sense to even know what he was doing), there would be no HIPAA violation.

HIPAA violations only involve those with patient information releasing or allowing access to that information by others. That applies to medical facilities, insurance companies and records clerks, not thiefs in the night or those who might abscond with soiled diapers.

In short, HIPAA ain't got shit to do with this.

Firstly, it is despicable that anyone would do this kind of thing. What gain was there for this schmuck involved? What kind of attack ad could reasonably be crafted from this kind of footage? Did he really think this would help his candidate? Just plain dumb. I guess there is truly no such thing as "bad" publicity.
Secondly, I met with Sen. Cochran a few weeks ago. I had not seen him in a few years. I was shocked at how he had changed. While I do not support McDaniels, I have concerns regarding the deterioration of our incumbent. It may have been the better part of valor to step down, but I know it is hard when one has done this so long. It is no surprise that"normal" people flee the political realm with all the kaka slung around. Definitely a contact sport.

On one of the stations this morning, they said he did this because he was starting a blog, wanted something to put on it and draw visitors, etc.
