Another Mayoral update

The Street Committee gave the Kingfish an update on the Mayoral race yesterday:

Horhn is in. Lee is chomping at the bit and is probably in.  It's understandable.  Harvey? The old warhorse is leaning towards jumping into the race.  Quinn & The Juniors? Last seen performing at The Penguin. The Chokwe and Bennie machines are deciding whether to each back a junior or join in backing one candidate. (Have you seen junior's grades?)   No word yet on perennial favorites David Archie and Shawn O'Hara.  Tony Yarber is leaning towards jumping in as well.

Horhn? Can he raise as much money as he did in 2007?  Will the DUI arrest hurt him? Will he sing "Did you ever know you were my hero?" and dedicate it to Chuck McRae?  Better yet, will the report itself hurt him in this race?  Harvey? Will the Billy Martin play work for him? Can he get the old gang and money together for one last hurrah? Can he stand up and push the sun back for yet another day? Maybe, maybe not.  If he presents the same message as he did last year, that there is nothing wrong with Jackson and the other candidates are a bunch of complainers, he will lose.  Period.  Lee? Disappeared after the election but wants to go Waterfront.  Didn't really expand past his votes in Wards 1 and 6 in the primary.  Raised several hundred thousand dollars last time from the business community.  Can he do it again? Quinn & The Juniors?  Regina came in fourth, raised little money.  Chokwe is sentimental to his father's crowd but he doesn't have his clout, his charisma, or his connections.  Good reputation, but 28 years old?  Not a chance. But Stokes wants him elected, hence the reason for his cartwheel last weekend.   Melvin Junior?  Good family, Bennie crony, but hasn't established himself yet. No real record.  Not even an Obama or Palin lite.  Yarber? Ward 6. Starts out with a solid ward.  Is in a similar position to Darrell McQuirter.  If he can raise money and pursue a similar campaign, he has a good chance of making a runoff.  Then there is the Q.  There has been some chatter about the Q running. Thinking is in a divided field, the NE Jackson vote can get him in the runoff.

No one will obviously qualify or announce he is in the race until after the funeral.  And make no mistake: our prayers and thoughts are with the Lumumba family.

C'mon. Dot Benford isn't running? No Crisler?

Sad that the DUI may hurt Horhn politically but the Senator's advocacy to protect the identity of child rapists may not.

Electing an unproven, untested and inexperienced 20-something on sentiment would be no different than the Hail Mary voters took on Frank Melton. The downside risk at this crucial time is too great and the 3+ years it will take to fix the mistake too long.

Hell, Kenny Stokes brings more experience to the table than Junior Lumumba.

Everyone should quit assuming that NE Jackson is behind Q.

What about Charlotte Reeves? This might just be her chance. Just like in the Miss Mississippi pageant, persistence pays off. The sixteenth time's the charm.

IF u look at JJ poll it is apparent that Regina and Lee acolytes believe this race is gonna turn on split black vote and NE Jackson MONEY!! Regina and Lee have cause to be concerned!!

Vote for me. My campaign slogan is: My campaign manager bakes great cookies. Now we will have a chicken in every pot. Wait, I think that is supposed to be a cookie in every pothole. Can't decide.....

Two comments; 1) Why in the world have the local talking heads changed the pronunciation of our recently deceased mayor to a long "MOOOOOOM"ba (like a cow) from "MUM"ba ? 2) looking at this poll on the right side of my screen I see Regina Quinn will probably overtake Mr. Lee... I don't think that are 5 Quinn supports that follow KF much less 501...somebody bee's cheating!!!

Your wild assed conclusions 10:32 based on a wholly unscientific poll where people can vote multiple times are hilarious. I think we should call you the acolyte of stupid.

Anonymous said...

Why would the voters of Jackson place their future in the hands of someone unqualified at running anything and with no experience? Wait a minute, I just remembered the majority of the voters in the last two presidential elections did the same thing. Never mind.

Anonymous said...

Ouch!!! Sorry to offend u Einstein but an unscientific poll CAN influence perception --that perception then becomes reality in a scientific poll-- Quinn acolytes and to a lesser extent Lee acolytes are stacking this poll for the purpose of perception, which can lead to money which can lead to a win!!

Anonymous said...

LMAO. There is the Acolyte of Stupid again now claiming that the people who give money to political campaigns are stupid too! Keep it up AofS. You're on to something. LOL

The last two people to beat Harvey ended up dead.

Just sayin'.

Horhn - there is no there there. He just wants to party.

Curious as to if the younger Lumumba will actually be elected solely because of who is father is. If Lee Runs he will be ganged up on by the other candidates and smeared as the puppet for the "white establishment".

Anonymous said...

What the hell did Lumumba do durning his few months as mayor to get all this praise?

Anonymous said...

@1:17 PM maybe you and Stokes are on to something… I was going to include why would anyone want to be mayor of Jackson at this point given that the position is the last position you may ever hold.

Melvin won't run for mayor. He wants state office and beyond. Even though this presents an interesting opportunity, I don't see him changing his trajectory.

Don't forget the dark horse candidate who has run for every office imaginable. I hear he's staying at the Tarrymore Motel. Jimmy Giles.

'A State Flag In Every Yard'.

What the hell did Lumumba do durning his few months as mayor to get all this praise?

1] increased the ad valorem millage
2] jacked up water and sewer rates
3] got an increase in sales taxes approved by voters
4] hired a dead ender from Detroit
5] got Ben Allen to acquiesce and kiss his butt

Other than that, nothing.

Harvey Johnson
Jonathan Lee
John Horhn
Margaret Barrett-Simon
Antar Lumumba
Tony Yarber
Melvin Priester

Book it. That is your slate. Regina is a maybe. Whitwell is out.

If the above list is accurate, I predict Johnson will be your next mayor.

There IS A PRAYER for a non-racist (white) to be elected by splitting black vote on winner take all basis--key is independently wealthy, young and TOTALLY impervious to Jacktown BS

Anybody heard of sheriff McMillan running?

Anonymous said...

Whitwell was never in. Despite his faults he is not stupid. He only seeks the titillation.

MEMO TO ANY POTENTIAL CANDIDATE

The Jackson Free Press endorsement won't help you at the polls.

"Partners" Donna Ladd and Todd Stauffer can't move the electoral needle in your favor in any single precinct. Not one. Not anywhere in Jackson. Not even their own in Belhaven. Not ever in any single election. It has never happened.

The Jackson Free Press interview will give your opponents fodder to use against you in the campaign.

Don't buy Donna Ladd's claptrap about needing an interview and any summons to meet with their "Editorial Board" considering the overblown and overvalued "JFP Endorsement".

Because it is all pure crap. You'll win more net votes walking a precinct, any given precinct, than you will wasting your time with the JFP.

How many posters live in jackson? Just curious.

749--ur on right track but I think it's even simpler--do u wanna get elected or do u wanna lead--REALISTICALLY u can't do one without the other ---but if u wanna lead --make simple case,don't respond to baiting and fall prey to pandering--make it a here I am--this is what i have done --use that as an indication of what I will do ---NO DETAILS!!! --take it or leave it--

and any summons to meet with their "Editorial Board" considering the overblown and overvalued

Their endorsement has been the kiss of death to candidates in the past.

And, their editorial board....what is it, a 2 x 4?

My comment is this. Harvey Johnson is responsibly for the City of Jackson having all these dang money issues. I heard that some grant money he gave away went into the wrong hands and now the government wants the money back. They say the city needs to repay about five million dollars but I'm not sure about the amount. On top of that, the city is giving away money to white folks building projects and then raising our taxes and our water bills to pay the bills. I would not support his black ash and you'll need to tell you'll friends. And now he wants to be mayor again. He needs to take his drunk wife somewhere and sit down. Anyway, he and that freaky Tony need to get somewhere and sit down.

@3:00pm...

I believe the Antar crowd is now representing the boards. That or Kenny...

Realistically Speaking:

Harvey Johnson (We've had enough of Harvey;
Jonathan Lee (Not trustworty, opportunist);
John Horhn (Disconnected; drunk on power);
Antar Lumumba (Lacks experience,too young, not what Jackson needs right now to move forward-don't need another inexperienced Melton administration);
Tony Yarber (Lacks experience,too young, not what Jackson needs right now to move forward-don't need another inexperienced Melton administration)
Melvin Priester (Lacks experience,too young, not what Jackson needs right now to move forward- don't need another inexperienced Melton administration); and
Margaret Barrett-Simon (29 years on City Council-knows what Mayor can and cannot do; serves on numerous boards, including the Salvation Army and on Board at Jackson State University; Lifelong resident of Jackson; Married to a doctor, with 5 daughters, don't have to serve but chooses to do so because of of her love for the City of Jackson.

Jackson, it's time for a change!

Repubs in Ward 7, in and infested around Belhaven, are the first who will tell you that Margaret is too old and there too long.

The SAME Repubs in Ward 7, in and infested around Belhaven, are the first who will tell you that Mississippi should re-elect Thad Cochran.

We in Ward 7, in ad infested around Belhaven, like the security or having old reliables in office. Don't mess with our Tu Tu.

I would vote for Charles H. Tillman because he is the only one who understands the Lumumba motto 'One city...' Ms Barrett-Simon never has developed a city-wide consciousness. She does what her friends tell her.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
