It's time. Update: Fisher avoids runoff. Queen sacks bagboy. Lee wins. Harvey is out.

The election night fun starts now. Fire away with comments. Drink of choice tonight: Bulleit Rye.

Clinton: Fisher at 55%, Garrett is 23%,  Hisaw is 19%. 1 ward left to count and over 200 absentees and affidavits. Might avoid a runoff. 7:50 PM

Just got a report MHB has 77% in Madison and official. Not sure how many precincts left. Trying to find out.

Ok. Here we go. 17% of the vote is in:

Charlotte Reeves 29 1%
Chokwe Lumumba 60 2%
Frank Bluntson 119 4%
Regina Quinn 665 24%
Jonathan Lee 912 33%
Harvey Johnson (i) 946 34%

Don't know which precincts. Clarion-Ledger is once again running way behind WLBT.

Update: 15 of 90 precincts
quinn: 665 17%
Lee 912 23%
Harvey 946 24%
Chokwe: 1160 30%

Flaggs got 50% of the vote. He won. Good job, George.

Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler gets 77% of the vote. Ass-kicking. Total. Only votes left to be counted are absentees. I picked 70-30. She went after her opponent. Gave back what she took, and did it with a smile in the debate.

Canton: Looks like runoff between Bolden and Green. 5 out of 6 precincts.

Jackson update: 30% of P's in in Jackson.

Frank Bluntson 197 3%
Regina Quinn 1,197 16%
Harvey Johnson (i) 1,668 22%
Chokwe Lumumba 2,081 27%
Jonathan Lee 2,327 30%

One campaign poll had Harvey at 24%, Lee at 17%, and Chokwe at 8% last week. Undecideds were 25%. That was a campaign poll. We will see how accurate it was.

Jackson update: 53% in. Damn.

Regina Quinn 2,127 15%
Harvey Johnson (i) 2,938 21%
Chokwe Lumumba 3,683 26%
Jonathan Lee 4,718 33%

I will say that vote total is more than NE Jackson votes.

Canton update: Ward 1: Rae Rosamond ahead on the machines. Papers are still left. No numbers.
Ward 2: Claude Banks won outright.
Ward3: Les Pen won outright.
Ward 4: Not official, Louis Smith might lose. Papers still to count.
Ward 5: runoff between Myers and Lacey. Could still change.
Ward 6: Unopposed.
Ward 7: Runoff between Grant and Williams. Alice Scott got beat.
Mayor's race. Bolden leading. Green and Truly are dead even. There will be a runoff. Only Babs says Truly will make runoff. Take it for um, what its worth.

Jackson update: 59%. Damn. Was not expecting this. However, I was telling people yesterday give me lean and hungry with money every time in a race. Looks like my little adage held up.

Regina Quinn 2,623 15%
Harvey Johnson (i) 3,752 22%
Chokwe Lumumba 4,577 27%
Jonathan Lee 5,392 31%

Clinton update.
Fisher 55%, 2596 votes
Garrett 1097 votes 23%
Hisaw: 855 votes 18%
274 votes are not counted. (5%)
Looks like Fisher avoids runoff. Even if all 274 go somewhere else.

UPSET in Making: 73% in.

Regina Quinn 3,078 14%
Harvey Johnson (i) 4,497 20%
Chokwe Lumumba 5,385 24%
Jonathan Lee 7,980 36%

That is the problem with 25% undecided. You have no clue where they will go, but for the incumbent. Somewhat of a shocker. I don't think anyone expected Lee to do this well. What the hell? Harvey HQ is dead. Marsha says there are more reporters than supporters.

Lee campaign manager Tyrone Hendrix said "we are very pleased with this showing. People all over Jackson want change." Needless to say, his phone is blowing up. New totals:

88% of the vote is in:

Frank Bluntson 774 3%
Regina Quinn 3,904 14%
Harvey Johnson (i) 5,639 20%
Chokwe Lumumba 6,838 25%
Jonathan Lee 9,794 36%

Chokwe widens lead over Harvey. Ladd must be suicidal.

Jackson update: 94% of the vote is in:

Frank Bluntson 827 3%
Regina Quinn 4,533 15%
Harvey Johnson (i) 6,248 21%
Chokwe Lumumba 7,549 25%
Jonathan Lee 10,487 35%

This one is in the bag. Lee and Chokwe.

98% of the vote is in. Its Lee and Chokwe.

Frank Bluntson 876 3%
Regina Quinn 4,867 15%
Harvey Johnson (i) 6,815 21%
Chokwe Lumumba 8,023 25%
Jonathan Lee 11,090 34%

Did anyone think Harvey would NOT make the runoff?

Harvey conceded. Lee told Marsha it was "news to him". Wow. Lee party filled with young people. How many of them are in the creative class?

Why hasn't the Fondren Harpy breathlessly reported the results of the Jackson 20/20 PAC filing? Please Karen, tell us why.

Wlbt.com just called Flagg in Vicksburg.

Yeah, @7:53, I get the same feeling. As I said before, the city will get the mayor it deserves out of this election. Starting tomorrow, we know whether to believe or let it rot.

Interesting comment.

If you check on WLBT what City Council races totals are so far you can tell what precincts have come in for the mayor's race.

Looks like some Ward 7 and south JXN boxes so far.

Jonathan vs. Chokwe is an awful matchup for Jonathan.

Anonymous said...

Halfway there (or less pending absentees) and Jackson is getting it right so far. I'm pleasantly surprised. Sweep the leg, Lee!

Wees gon make dis a new cuntree! said...

No matter the outcome, the fact that a militant, racist, anti-American piece of sh*t like Lumumba could pull the votes he has is a harbinger of the death of Jackson. This is a shameful day.

If Chuck Way wins my drink of choice will be diesel.
If Jonathan Lee wins I will be sipping on the closest bottle of BrĂ¼t I can find.

Don't shit the bed Jackson, again!

Yeah the Chamber and Ward 1 are so smart they're stupid. If they liked working with Harvey they're going to love Chok. Wonder how Good's business will be after 4 years of Chok.

Lee's got 35%...a commanding lead, but still not close to avoiding a runoff. Looks like Hovvy is having a rough night. Looks like a convention center doesn't buy you much when running against a bright young man (on one hand) and a bitter bigoted idiot (on the other).

If only he had gotten that BB King's open in time...

Anyone remember the "anyone but Hillary" republicans?
How did that work out for us?

@9:24; Jeff Good is supporting Lee.
I'm ward 1 & I support Lee. So where does your vitriol come from? Ward 1 is not suicidal. We live in Jackson, work in Jackson & support Jackson, as best we can.

"Did anyone think Harvey would NOT make the runoff?"

I didn't have a clue, but a bailiff I talked to in Hinds County courthouse on Monday predicted the Lee v. Chokwe runoff, so perhaps some people did see it coming.

Anonymous said...

I can't wait for Chokwe to be elected High Chief of Jackistan. I can't wait for those semi-literate bigots to get exactly the kind of folk socialism they think they want.

Sure glad we re-upped Mayor Mary. We're going to need build a goddamn Berlin Wall to keep out the refugees from Lumumbaland.

Anonymous said...

Enjoy that feeling of progress tonight, Jackson. I get the feeling you'll muck it all up in 2 weeks...

Anonymous said...

What will Chokwe's first action as mayor be? Rename the reservoir to Lake Stokely Carmichael? Build a statue to Malcolm X in Smith Park? Raise the taxes on all white owned businesses to 92%? Purge the JPD of all crackers and arrest anyone with a Col. Reb bumper sticker?

Anonymous said...

@9:45 Duh! And in doing so, you have pretty much insured a Lumumba victory in the runoff. I'll bet my Madison mortgage Lee won't beat Chok. Keep on supporting the best you can by shooting yourself in the foot. Case in point a FB post of a young republican women who said she only voted Dem for the first time ever to vote for Lee... hee hee hee... we'll see how that stands up in two weeks.

Anonymous said...

The only white face at Choke way's camp is the poor WAPT reporter who drew the short skraw. They're doing an Arsenio-style chant...basically what you'd expect.

Anonymous said...

This is a perfect outcome for Lee. Whites will vote in record numbers in the runoff from fear of Chokwe and so will moderate blacks, which the majority of Jacksonians are(notwithstanding the, let me say, diversity challenged minority of commenters on this thread.

If Lee continues to work his tail off, as he has been, he walks in. And the floodgates of money will open for his campaign.

Good riddance to Mayor Johnson. Hopefully we never hear from him again.

Look, I still live in Jackson, and I do have my complaints, too. But, you Rankin County, cousin-kissing, booger-snatching racist posters on here are just BS'ers! You are an embarrassment, not only Rankin County - but the entire state! I've seen your continual ignorant, racist comments on this site regularly, too. And, who are you supposed to be anyway? Come on dude. I mean, really(SMDH)? As soon as integration began, your type of folk either shut down your businesses, took them away from Jackson and/or ran your butts away from Jackson cause you refused to accept change! Instead of having commerce on your minds, as did places like Atlanta, you closed up shop and left! Personally, I'm glad your gone! No need to wonder why Mississippi is so far behind! In your case, I wish mothers would eat their young! So, no, Bubba, you have no right to say anything negative about Jackson. Feel free to shut your one-toothed trap! Now, you be a good little boy, and get back to using your usual 'intimate talents' to satisfy your hogs, dogs, goats or whatever kind of critter you're into!

JFP and its white-guilt ridden editor Laddie will endorse the *lesser* of two evils, i.e., the "blacker" candidate, Lumumba.

I want to hear from the two brave anonymous Madison residents who said if Mayor Mary were reelected their homes would be on the market this morning. WHERE ARE YOU??? It is a great day for Madison, Mississippi.

Anonymous said...

Good for Lee. I really fear that the Stokes voters will view him as an Uncle Tom and vote for Choke a-Way. Long live the Republic.

Anonymous said...

I am TOTALLY amazed at the number of votes Chokwe L received. It scares me that there are that many blacks in Jackson who hate whites so deeply that they endorse Chokwe L, one of the leaders of the Republic of New Afrika. RNA mission is to turn much of the South into New Afrika soil.

I hope Chokwe's supporters realize that his pie-in-the-sky lure will bring nothing but misery for all.

I've met so many blacks living in Jackson that seem to have no problem with whites. I really have felt comfortable and safe living around many of them who are neighbors.

Now I will second-guess their openness and friendliness and wonder if they really want ole whitey out of here.
I have lived in my home for over 45years and will now feel somewhat like a stranger in my neighborhood-I'm an intruder in the Chokwe L's supporter's view.
I will now keep an extra watchful eye...

Stokes voters voted and they arent enough to elect Chokwe. Surely, there are enough Quinn & Harvey voters to put Lee over the top.

Bye Kingfish,

Over the past couple of months, I have enjoyed reading your blog. The material that YOU write and that YOU post is always of substantial quality. However, there is a large portion of your commenters that I just can't put up with anymore without being perpetually pissed off that such ignorance exists.

First, multiple of them post that they believe that lumumba will take it all - that he will get the majority of the vote, or at least he will be the front runner. I mean what other outcome is there since the city is majority black? I can almost hear them say that as they conveniently ignore the fact that almost all the other candidates are black as well.

Then, they act surprised that lumumba won so many votes when he actually got much FEWER votes than they predicted. Whatever. No comment.

There are several posters that are more open about their racism (like the guy that started his post with the inquiries as to what chokwe would do first in office (as if he is actually going to be elected anyway)).

I'm not saying that their first amendment right to free speech should be taken away from them. They should be allowed to think and express whatever they want. I am only practicing my right to walk away when disgusted.

So this is my last time to visit jacksonjambalaya.com. If you actually post this (I don't care whether you do or not) I am sure that the foaming at the mouth portion of your readers will have some interesting things to say about me. At least then they will have something to complain about other than racial minorities.

After all the bluster why hasn't the JFP reported on the Jackson 20/20 campaign finance filing?

Anonymous said...

So wait, 10:40, Jackson puts an avowed black supremacist in the runoff but it's the guy who makes a joke about Stokeley Carmichael who's racist?

Anonymous said...

To 09:09am May 8th: I am the poster @ 11:56pm May 7th. I agree that Chokwe would not be good look. Especially, since Jackson is already in trouble economically. I know the image of Jackson is not good right now. But I feel, with the right leadership and vision, Jackson could quite possibly improve. Yet, that one little cut of Jackson still has Mrs. Stokes as their city council person, and will most likely NOT improve. So, the rest of Jackson should just move on! Chokwe is too polarizing - for both whites and blacks! Also, Jackson would do well to do away with any person who does not embrace diversity! Running a city is a business, not a pissing contest!

Anonymous said...

10:27 a.m. Stay here with the few of us who call BS on the flat-earthers who regularly comment here. Unable to carry on a reasonable debate about the issues, they simply vilify anyone who dares to disagree with their Far Right extremist nonsense.

And they'll get bored if they don't have anyone to denigrate. Don't retreat!

Anonymous said...

I don't care if you do call me "racist". It's used to much to have any sting anyway. I could care less. I remember when I could ride my bike at 2:00 AM in the neighborhoods around Millsaps if I so took an urge. Try that now. Is it white racist you will get mugged or robbed by? Probably not.
Remember the mall at 5 points? Used to be "the" place back in the day. Metro Center? Northpark is going down fast.Nobody with money to spend of any race wants to shop in New Jack City. The Ramada Inns? On and on and on. The Have a nice, steaming cup of reality. Blacks killed Jackson. May have been other contributing factors but that's the largest one. Decent people of any race left and will never come back.

Jackson is gone and shall never return.

Anonymous said...

Is 11:31 AM an example of a Lee supporter?

Anonymous said...

11:51. Jackson is about to become the new Detroit. Choker will simply accelerate that fall.

PEGASUS1964 said...

To 11:51am: YOU are an irrelevant racist - an enigma of the past! The mall @ 5points? Full of deflection and rot! You're a joke, and do not deserve my attention after this post. Yet, even you, with your small-minded self, have a valid point - the increase in Jackson's crime. Listen JJ bloggers, MANY black folk DO NOT want Chokwe as the Mayor of Jackson! And, going forward, please ignore the pesky little fungus @ 11:51am. I'm asking for a good debate about the current issues affecting Jackson, and what you feel may help revive this city.

KaptKangaroo said...

I think it is great that Lee and Quinn secured such a large portion of the vote, Harvey too. It would indicate to me that voters in Jackson are more conservative than I believed.

Anonymous said...

Whoever wins, please just fix the roads. I don't think that is much to ask for.

Anonymous said...

Well 12:33, we could begin with the public schools, including discipline, teachers and administrators, not necessarily in that order. (Admittedly many of the problems stem from student's home life, but that is uncontrollable by the aforementioned.) Notice the larger industries, with the exception of Nissan, are in areas outside of Jackson; without competitive paying jobs, retail and housing cannot thrive. Then there's higher education opportunities, and of course adequate police and fire protection. Is that enough to start with??

Anonymous said...

Not sure how a vote for a black democrat equates to conservatism. But, oh well...........

Anonymous said...

1:38 Nissan is in Canton, not Jackson.

KaptKangaroo said...

Learn to read. I said "more conservative" not "a conservative".

The comprehension of some never ceases to dwindle.

The Libertarian said...

Whats racist about the truth? No, its not a black problem, its an uneducated black problem, the same way Pearl is an inbred, undeducated white problem. If the candidate with the stupid name wins, yes, the city will be a new Detroit. Just as Detroit fell, the chickens came home to roost with arrests on corruption charges. Same will (hopefully) happen if when Lumumumumbibbity boo dicks everything up. And look closer, that college age white kid endorsing Lumumumumboobippity was probably, upon closer inspection, a 30 something year old, self loathing, Dr. Tom Head, M.D., D.D.S., PhD. Esquire.

Anonymous said...

Well KAPT, you're quite the smartass again today. To be "MORE" conservative, wouldn't one have to have some conservatism instilled? Please apologize to 2:35 for your rudeness.

KaptKangaroo said...

Moving up the spectrum anywhere to the right of Chockwe is "more conservative"; get a life if you feel critiquing my every comment is your anonymous daily grind.

Anonymous said...

I'm the one who first responded to Captain Kangaroo on his conservatism comment. 3:51 speaks for him/herself, but I agree.

A more conservative black democrat is sorta like a less offensive turd in the pool. Ain't no sucha thang.

Watching Crosby said...

Crosby's comment after the results were in speaks volumes. His immediate comment was, "Well, I have two more years left as Madison County Supervisor". In other words, this was just another of many 'who cares what the outcome is' races.

What did he have to lose? He still has the job he held, Warnock funded his race, so he's out......not a damned thing. Another example of why we need a law to require that a public servant give up a current job in order to run for another. That's the rule with state employees, if I'm not mistaken.

Anonymous said...

You certainly deserve critiquing. Learn to chews your words more politely.

PEGASUS343 said...

I can appreciate you being straight forward May 8, 2013 at 1:38 PM. And please, call me PEGASUS343, since I plan to be on here as often as I can. About the schools: Quite pitiful, and I consider it abusive to send your children to JPS as it exists today. This is why I approve school board members being voted in, and not appointed. But, I tutor many of the kids in the system, and they are quite intelligent. But, since the JPS officials do not draw a hard-line on academics and behavior, the children suffer. All this while the JPS officials still get a paycheck and won't bother to dig deeper to get the job done! Personally, I believe the alternative school should be the larger school. The zero tolerance policy @ JPS is a joke! Those kids know better, and they need to be shut down - hard! And, that goes for the parents and their foolishness, too! As far as businesses go: This city has not proven to be business-friendly. Too much paperwork, bad public relations from the mayor's office, safety issues, etc. This new mayor MUST pursue the business community, and offer them an attractive enough package to either remain or come here. Corporations are looking to cut costs all the time, and many are looking to move south. But, keep in mind, those companies do their homework, too. Jackson's leadership must truly have Jackson at their heart, or nothing's going to happen. Of the two candidates, Mr. Lee would be the best man. That other cat is questionable. Your thoughts? Some of you still live here. What would be your solution?

Anonymous said...

And please, call me PEGASUS343, since I plan to be on here as often as I can.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Note: Security provided by INS.

Trollfest '07

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee?
