WHAT?

Warning: Graphic, violence, blood, and language.

A video posted on another blog shows JPD officers beating the son of Rankin County Deputy Mike McGee at the St. Paddy's Day parade yesterday.

The mother posted on her website:

"My son was at the St. Patrick's Day parade Saturday March 16, 2013 and was a bit inebriated. He was attacked by 2 guys. The information about these 2 guys attacking my son is a bit sketchy right now but we hope to get more information about the reason they attacked him. After the attack, JPD officers arrived. My son was reeling from being jumped, was angry and didn't know what was going on. The two guys were gone, and my son's father and sister were talking to my son to calm him down.

My son was mouthing off and saying things that the JPD officers were offended by. The video shows the officers attacking my son. He was charged with assaulting an officer but based on the video, it appears that the officers attacked him. My son was not armed and was not a danger to anyone, including the officers. His father was handling the situation with the intent to get my son out of that environment. He did not have the opportunity because the police intercepted and attacked him.

One of the officers, Corey Jenkins, hit my son with his asp baton. One of the hits was to the head although that is not clear in the video. My daughter called 911 and my son was taken to the hospital. He had staples in his head to repair the injury created when the officer hit him in the head with the asp baton.

The officer, Corey Jenkins, was arrogant and refused to have any discussion with family members after the attack. In one of the pictures, you can see Corey Jenkins standing with a satisfied look on his face while my son is on the ground bleeding from the head wound. A physician in the crowd was trying to attend to my son's head wound but the officers told him to get away
."

Her son is the son of Rankin County Deputy Mike McGee. His father, uncle, and grandfather are all law enforcement personnel. The police apparently refused to let a UMC Doctor treat him while he was on the ground.

Link to post. There are more videos and some graphic photos. Bloody.

This is a none story. The person arrested swung at the cops while they were interrogating him about a fight with another person at the parade. You don't take a swing a cop in uniform while they are interrogating you (or arresting you).

Brutality? Oh hell no. Bubba got just what he asked for. No place for foul-mouth, drunken white (or black) trash in public.

GOOD GOING JPD!

Lumbergh said...

Looks like the guy got what he had coming. I see a belligerent redneck screaming "f*** you" at the cops and having to be restrained from attacking one of them. As the situation gets out of control they respond with force and the only person hurt is the belligerent redneck. What's the problem?

I read the mother's blog. Despite her rationalizations, there is zero excuse to try to attack the cops that have come to help him.

Upset or not, you lung at a cop, you deserve the beat down you are about to receive.

Anonymous said...

We were right there watching the parade. There was blood everywhere and they bound him and made him lay on the ground for a VERY long time.

Who is the dick harassing the videographer?

Kingfish said...

I have the same question.

Anonymous said...

A "bit inebriated?" Come on. Nothing to see here. Cops did their job. He was handled with kids gloves compared to what would have happened with NOLA cops in the French Quarter. I've seen them in action.

Micah Gober said...

The only thing I see wrong is the under cover officer harassing videographer. Other than that the police did what they had to do.

Anonymous said...

Agree with Micah @3:16. From the video, the plainclothes asshole is out of line, but the uniforms simply restrained a belligerent drunk. What happened after the video ended (e.g. denying medical attention, etc.) is anyone's guess unless you were there to witness it. And I'm sure we'll have plenty show up here who did witness it or claim to have witnessed it.

Anonymous said...

After a third view, I'm going to throw some blame on daddy also.

I'm assuming from momma's post that daddy is the one in the green shirt that gets in the lad's face right before the innocent young man gets belligerent. What did he say to escalate things right before our acidentally-inebriated choirboy went off (or tried to)? It would also appear that daddy is the one screaming at JPD after they restrain our 1st alternate to the pope. Nice job, dad.

I know several RCSO deputies that I hold in the absolute highest regard. Guys who would really make you proud. However, McGee isn't showing much of the cool-headedness that you want behind a service weapon and a badge. Let's hope (???) he was just drunk too, I guess.

Anonymous said...

Nothing good comes from the 2 dominant components in this video:

1) Alcohol

2) Jackson Mississippi

If the races were reversed of all involved...I wonder what would have happened?

Anonymous said...

The guy yelling at the videographer is the guy's father is what I gathered from the video & from what the mother said...

Anonymous said...

The guy who threatened the videographer with violence is the only problem I see. He should be fired first thing Monday morning.

The officers difused the situation perfectly says this white guy.

Hookah said...

FUNNY I had a satisfied look on my face while I watched this videos of your son laying on the ground bleeding from a head wound.

Anonymous said...

"Brutality" my ass. The guy is pushing officers and yelling, "Fuck you, nigger." Cops simply cannot let that continue, especially at a public gathering where things can quickly get out of control.

I'm not a JPD fan by any means, but this was a textbook handling of drunk and disorderly conduct.

Daddy knows the cops were right, too. Otherwise he wouldn't be trying to shut down the cameraman. He'd be asking for a copy.

Anonymous said...

3:59 here. After rewatching and reading a little bit more, I retract my comment.

1. The guy saying something to the videographer seems to be the guy's dad. Instead of threatening, he's saying it as a "better watch out."

2. If that first shot to the head was with the asp baton, then that should be it. That's not proper protocol.

Anonymous said...

Great job JPD!! RCSO would have done the same or worse if that would have happened over here. I thought JPD acted very calm. Maybe the Deputy from Rankin needs to investigated for his behavior off duty if he is the one mouthing off to the one with the cell phone. We are to act professional both on and off duty!

Anonymous said...

It's universal truth, You act stupid and get lippy with the police, you get an ass whipping.
Nothing newsworthy.

Anonymous said...

His dad and sister were simply trying to calm him down because he was jumped from behind by some unknown party. He was not trying to attack any police officer nor did he take a swing at one. He was mad at whoever jumped him. I was standing right there. Any words being said does not justify being attacked by an officer. They were just mad about what he was saying. That's a fact

Anonymous said...

That fat redneck got off easy. He called the black cop a Fn' nigger, he is lucky his head is still attached to his fat body.

Anonymous said...

Great! While he nurses his hangover headache -- probably one of the better ones from the weekend -- he can think of other, non-aggressive ways to express his anger at parties who vacated the area. And I bet he'll be a lot calmer next time a cop tells him to do something.

Anonymous said...

Looks like the parents of the drunk failed to properly raise a child. Being drunk and stupid in public = (you fill in the blank).
Just for the fun of it, reverse the roles...a drunk and stupid black kid surrounded by Rankin County deputies = (again, you fill in the blank).

Anonymous said...

hmmmm the only thing wrong that i see was the strike to the head. which in my years of training you never are to do. and as for my training. i was 27 years as a n,y state corrections officer and 31 years as a army national guard, which we had riot training.... just in case people want to know

Anonymous said...

Some people just don't know how to act when they are drunk. Sorry mom, but that is what happens when you raise you're son to be a racist prick - he gets why he deserves. Similar to parents that get mad at teachers for punishing their brat children when they act up in school, you insist that your child shouldn't suffer the consequences of actions like swinging on a police officer and calling him the "n" word. What a testament to the downfall of American society! Videos of rednecks showing their true colors is exactly what rankin county needs to improve its image. Oh, and if you think I am being harsh, it appears from the other comments on this post that I am not the only one who feels this way.

Anonymous said...

Go, JPD! If you want a donkey's attention, you have to bring a pole down between his ears. I'm happy to see them keeping order.

Advice to the parents: stop bailing this boy out of everything. His behavior MIGHT change if you allow him to face the natural consequences of his behavior.

Anonymous said...

kid probably said ' F.U., N...' to the two guys who jumped him. but agree, head strike not proper.

Anonymous said...

If you're going to be stupid, you have to be tough. If you want to have a nice day at the parade, don't get drunk and cuss the police.

Anonymous said...

I hope that copper is ready to pay for that hospital trip. You can't hit someone in the head with a baton. Especially if it's a victim of a crime. Obviously disoriented and agitated from getting his ass kicked and not of sound mind. This case is a slam dunk for even the greenest of attorney.

Shadowfax said...

PS: The only "F*ck You" that was called for was the one the videographer did not level at the father. I don't give a crap who Pops McGee is. He has no right to demand that someone put away a camera. He needed a busted lip.

Anonymous said...

A wonderful family oriented event!

Anonymous said...

@5:54 that is another JPD officer that is threatening the videographer.

Anonymous said...

The fact that the dad did NOT want it on tape, is a big clue as to how the merits seemed at the time. Cops abusing my kid, I'm all about getting that on tape.

Anyone ever seen "country fried movie" if you did you know the first thing you do after yelling n***** around that group is run like hell... Also wear a helmet

Anonymous said...

You don't know that 6:09. I think it's already been established that the man protesting the camera is the father.

The boy obviously needed restraint. He came off whatever he was leaning on in a lunging, arm swinging, angry movement. Not advocating a baton to the skull, but maybe three to the knee plus a stun.

Anonymous said...

To 5:09, you said "Looks like the parents of the drunk failed to properly raise a child" and to 5:24, you said "Sorry mom, but that is what happens you raise you're [your] son to be a racist prick."

I have seen children in Youth Court for many years and you both make a faulty assumption.  You both assume a child misbehaves because the parents failed to properly raise the child.  Sometime that is correct, BUT sometimes the parents act appropriately and the child still misbehaves. Don't blame the parents until you know the facts about a child's parental guidance or lack thereof.

Anonymous said...

I know mike personally, 8:01. That isn't him.

Anonymous said...

That's definitely not the father who told the guy videoing it to get rid of the phone. I was standing there watching this happen. The guy who told him to put the phone away was an under cover cop.

Anonymous said...

Ok all you attorneys who comment on this blog. Here's the question, can you video law enforcement in the line of duty in Mississippi or not? No lawyer jargon mumbo jumbo...just the facts please.

Anonymous said...

That officer should be suspended and brought up on charges unlees JPD can cite a protocol where an officer is recommended to use a hard baton to the head.

That is an assault by the police officer. Go post that video with no commentary on any LEO forum and the majority of LEOs will say the officer assailted the person.

Anonymous said...

Obvious assault. The kids hands were being held by the older gentleman when the baton impacted the skull.

Anonymous said...

I would like to point out that the drunk guy did not assault the officer right before the cop clocked him. He may have slightly swung but he never HIT the cop. It appears that JPD are just as much worthless pigs as Madison and Ridgeland Police and MCSD I hope to see a lawsuit or two come out of this.

Anonymous said...

The head shot was to much but he deserved to be put down. It's hard making these split second descions as an officer. But everyone will scrutinize the police until they need the police. Suit up critics and go 10-8.

Anonymous said...

Over agressive ahole cops....are you telling me that 2 sober police officers can't control one mouthy drunk without hitting him in the head from behind? JPD's gonna have some questions to answer and rightfully so.
That man has a badge and is to be held to a higher standard. No matter what he was being called he doesn't have the right to assault a citizen. He couldn't tase him or pepper spray him or hit him low? These were all viable options but Jenkins chose to be overly violent and hopefully it costs him his job.
The fact that cops on this board commenting see no wrong in this situation on the part of the officer is both sickening and frightening.

Don't know all of the facts, but I never see the kid lunge at either officer. He points at the one to his right and his dad pushes him back against the car. Then, it looks as if the sister slaps at him to which he reacts. Looks as if the son was being tossed around and unsteady on his feet, but never anything other than pointing in the one officer's face. The JPD officers were ready to pounce because of his use of a derogatory word towards our race.. Police officers should be able to remain level headed in a situation like this and not use such excessive force. A blow to the head could lead to many problems, all of which may not appear until later on. This was not handled properly! The cocky plain clothes officer was wrong for threatening a bystander/witness and should be reprimanded as well. He seemed as if he was chomping at the bits to get physical or confiscate the evidence which shows JPDs finest at work.

Anonymous said...

Yep, they should be allowed to just pop anyone one in the head with a metal pipe, like the camera phone operator, the dad and sister who were trying to help... anyone who they don't like.

The little old drunk lady in the background deserved to get her head split open too.

It's important to keep people in line and I'm sure all those people have done something or said something to deserve being brained.

It's cute to see all you law and order taking up for this little p.o.s. Instead of being upset that her son got thwomped, momma should be wondering what she did wrong to raise a kid who can't hold his booze, and lunges at cops while screaming racial slurs.

Anonymous said...

It's even more cute watching the idiots attempt to make 2 wrongs equal right.

Anonymous said...

the main problem here is we have a cop hitting a guy in the head with a baton on VIDEO. whether the kid was drunk, insulting, agressive or whatever this is a St Paddy parade. It is happeneing everywhere that day. Cops can arrest, restrain, defend themselves, they can not go off and clock people in the head just because they feel like it with a weapon. If the cops did this to everyone that got mouthy with them they would be doing it 100 times a day. Im pro LE but one must use common sense.

Anonymous said...

I like how some of the idiots on here want to say "he got what he deserved" and point to him saying derogatory words. In case you idiots didn't know we have something called the First Amendment where you can whatever the Hell you want without fear of reprisal from any form of government. The main thing here is that piggy pie hit him in the head with his baton. That is specifically taught as an illegal hit at every level of training. He knows it, Mike knows it, I know it, and anyone that has ever had to carry a baton (Military or LEO) knows it. What would you be saying if this man had died?

Anonymous said...

looks like he got what he deserved. If I'm a police officer making 30k a year, I don't want to be potentially assaulted by some drunk dude at a parade. the police officer is totally in the right.

clintonrebel said...

the boy was a menace and a danger in a big group setting. they did what they had to do to restrain him. that's about it. had they not taken decision action when the guy starting becoming violent, you could have had a very bad incident. kudo's to JPD.

Anonymous said...

The baton is an intermediate force device intended to augment defensive, arrest and control techniques. One must have reasonable and factual basis for justifying use. A baton to the heart or “red zone” area surrounding the heart and including the head, is equivalent to the use of a gun or other lethal methods of use of force. Therefore, striking someone in this manner with a baton is only justified when the officer fears imminent serious physical harm or death, the same standard which justifies shooting an individual, center mass, which is how police officers are trained to shoot, when confronted with a lethal situation.

The “Lamb Method”, is still generally accepted as the standard of use for apprehending a suspect who is not armed but represents an imminent danger to the police officer. This method includes utilizing a baton, generally below the knees, in an effort to take down the suspect without seriously injuring him or her. The Lamb method is used at the Ms. Highway patrol to train LEO.

Anonymous said...

I don’t know how anyone could defend this JPD officer… I’m certainly not defending this drunken idiot, but hitting him in the head with the baton is inexcusable.

Anonymous said...

If he were black and the cops were white all HELL would be breaking loose. A/A'S ADMIT IT!

Anonymous said...

There are certain No-No's when it comes to the use of the baton. The biggest one is use of force to the head. This is now an assault with a deadly weapon. Best case scenario for this officer is he will be fired. Worst case is he will be prosecuted. Either way his career in LE is over.

Anonymous said...

I think that in summary, nearly everybody is correct:

1) You aren't supposed to hit people in the head with a baton.

2) If you verbally, or otherwise, assault someone who has multiple weapons, and some legal right to carry and use them, you are an idiot.

3) If that someone happens to be a police officer, you are more of an idiot.

Anonymous said...

What they said^^^

Anonymous said...

^^^ Second that.

Anonymous said...

Smarting off to a cop while your drunk: NOT SMART. Hitting someone in the head with a baton while their Law enforcement officer dad is standing in front of him: NOT SMART. Getting it all on video: Priceless

whitey said...

they should have hit him in the nuts. there obviously wasn't much intelligent matter in his skull.

Anonymous said...

I was misled to think the 'father' of the redneck (I saw him interviewed) is a cop in Brandon? He barely speaks English and appears by name, appearance and accent to be middle eastern and is the perp's 'step father'.

The redneck (no other appropriate term for him) said on the news "The officer used UNappropriate force on me". How the hell would HE know. He was drunk and on auto-pilot. Had he not been restrained he might have mirrored the drunk at the Dock several years ago who, with cowboy boots, stomped a disabled man who later died. That guy sits in a cell today knowing better than to use the term M.F.N.

Anonymous said...

Lots of mistakes here. I do think the police used unnecessary and excessive force. If it was 2 white cops on a black individual, it would be on the national news and the officers would serve jail time. The officers could have handled this in a much better way.

The guy that got hit is a dumb, drunk, idiot. When you get sloppy drunk and act like a fool, you open yourself up to having things like this happen. The guy needed his ass whipped by somebody.

The mother said that "His father was handling the situation with the intent to get my son out of that environment". I disagree. If the father was handling it, he would have taken him home earlier, pulled his belt off, and whipped the boys tail for acting like a drunk idiot. Some will say that the father can't whip him because the boy is too old. If he is too old, then the parents should let him handle his own legal battle and stay out of it.

The kid is an idiot, the father and mother are idiots, and the cops are idiots. Too many mistakes to count in this situation. Nobody wins.

Anonymous said...

how would he know? well I'm sure he's watched himself on the youtube several times...likely while enjoying a good cold bur.

Anonymous said...

We got several legal problems for the JPD officer. One is felony assault with a deadly weapon. The other is lying on a police report. The kid obviously did not commit assault. Another is denying the kid immediate medical attention from the doctor that tried to assist. False arrest. And the worst of all is wearing beads like a little girl while on duty.

The officer appears to react with force, opening himself up and the city to liability. What the hell is your comment supposed to mean?

Anonymous said...

The start of the video is not the start of the disturbance, so there is a lot that is unknown. If the officer already had his baton out and ready, the idiot was pinned against the back of a vehicle by his father, and someone thought it was interesting enough to video there was obviously an escalating situation. The officer reacted to the offender's actions and once he was in custody there appeared to be no more actions by the officers. Maybe he wasn't aiming for his head- he didn't have the best angle and remember this is happening live with no rewind to watch it again. Mr. Criminal caused every bit of this.

Just to set the record straight, the guy at the end of the video was not Mr. Mike, the father of Zach, it was a JPD officer. Also, for EVERYONE saying that he did not get hit in the head by the baton, he did. I've seen the wound and staples and to my knowledge it looks like a large object hit the back of his head with blunt force. Which, by the video footage, would be a baton being used by a JPD officer. Zach had been jumped prior to this and another "fun fact" he didn't start that fight. The media has blown this story up and so many details are WRONG! I was at the parade, witnessed the fight before JPD got involved and then watched an "enforcer of the law" crack Zach's head open with a baton for what? Being drunk? Being disorderly? He was mad about being attacked by the individuals prior to JPD getting involved and once JPD did get involved those two guys were no where to be found but Zach was cornered by JPD and they were already trying to arrest him for a crime he didn't do. BUT THAT GIVES JPD EVERY RIGHT TO CRACK SOMEONE'S HEAD OPEN WITH A BATON? NO! Just a head's up to everyone doubting the validity of Zach's case and story, y'all watch what happens next and that's all I can say :)

Additionally; Calling a cop a MFN will NEVER, in a court of law, give the cop the right to crack open a head in violation of policy. What we saw in this video was nothing more than 1960 revisited, only with race-role reversal.

Keep watching the Ledger for Jerry Mitchell to come to the aid of the white boy with the cracked head.

After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
