Chris Evans of Evans brothers fame is still walking around free thanks to a series of extensions granted by the federal judge. Mr. Evans pleaded guilty to charges of bank fraud and money laundering in federal court in 2011. U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan, III sentenced Chris Evans to 168 months and Charles Evans, Jr. to 240 months in prison for bank fraud and money laundering. The two brothers created over thirty companies to defraud over fifty banks to obtain approximately $80 million in mortgage loans. It was the largest case of mortgage fraud ever in Mississippi.
Judge Jordan ordered Chris Evans to report to prison in February 2012. Charles Evans, Jr. has not begun serving his sentence as well as restitution has to be determined for both brothers. However, several extensions have been granted to Mr. Evans and he is still free on bond. Charles Evans, Jr. is being held without bond. The reason for the extensions is Judge Jordan ordered restitution be made to the victims. The amount of restitution has yet to be calculated. A motion to continue filed in June stated "More time is needed to finalize the accounting and/or submission, to be provided to the Court." A restitution hearing still has not been held as the government determines the restitution amount nor is one on the docket at this time.
KF note: Apparently there were so many properties, banks, and loans involved that calculating the amount of damages and then restitution is no easy exercise. The irony is the Evans brothers have no assets, will be in jail for over a decade, and will have no reasonable means of making restitution to the victims.

Chris Evans JUST left to go to jail and while you can find Charles listed as a Federal inmate , I have not been able to locate where Chris is at all. He does not show up in the datebase for inmates in federal prison. How did he live in a motel for months and pay for it?
