That can't be good for business. Hell they should have just voted him mayor while they were at it.

Shut up; what were they thinking???

Anonymous said...

Huh,No it's not.

Anonymous said...

Come on people ... you cannot be shocked! You knew this was the plan!

Anonymous said...

where is the crying military guy

Feel sorry for the men & women of Ridgeland Police. They've once again gotten stuck with what the rest of the county didn't want. I can think of 1 mayor and 4 aldermen that may get voted out. (LETS HOPE SO)

I feel for Randy Tyler in this. The men and women at RPD were much happier under Randy's leadership. Moral was higher, the officers actually looked forward to coming to work. This is a slap in Randy's face.

It was obvious that Houston wanted out of RPD otherwise he would not have run for sherrif. I don't guess I'll ever understand politics because thats exactly what it is.

I wonder what is it that Houston has been covering up for McGhee and the other 5 aldermen down there that Randy wont.

I had heard this was a no-no under the Hatch Act, but I confess I'm not familiar with what the law says.

I feel good knowing Jimmy is back...Congrats!

7:35 McGee knew about Soto and like Houston did nothing. Important people had gone to him directly about the rampaging cop. Soto's action were no secret. McGee did nothing.

If they don't like it, there is always the ballot box.

I don't know Mr. Tyler but my experiences with Mr. Houston as a business owner needing the police have been outstanding. He was personally available to me, interested in solving the problems, implemented his plan while I was there and had a perfect resolution withing 3 weeks (He devoted at least 2 officers one night a week, the only nights there were issues). I have dealt with the police in Pearl, Brandon, Jackson and Ridgeland on quite a few occasions and none have come close to approaching the competency of Flowood during his tenure there.

Those who keep resurrecting 'The Hatch Act' have nothing to prop them up. As Kangaroo is fond of telling me, you need to research the archives and see that we've already discussed that.

The Hatch Act does not, nor should it, address who a municipality can hire or rehire. It does address which sorts of specific activities are prohibited by The Act. Since Houston apparently had participated in successful efforts to get government grants for the city (and may have even been in a position partially funded through grants) he was prohibited from seeking partisan political office, while employed, and was prohibited from taking part in certain other politically related activities.

He resigned his position, which was proper. That he is being re-employed following the loss of his election efforts is of no concern under the Hatch Act.

The intent of the Act, in this situation, would be to preclude his influencing his coworkers and subordinates to (for example) vote for him or go along with his political leanings under threat of retaliation or termination. That didn't happen since he resigned.

Good move by Ridgeland Leadership. Houston is an outstanding cop and an excellent chief. The fact that he ran for sheriff and lost shouldn't stop Ridgeland from hiring the best available person to be its chief. Congratulations, Mayor, on a good decision.

Anonymous said...

" Houston is an outstanding cop and an excellent chief."

Caught violating the Hatch Act and forced to resign.

Lets a dirty cop go wild on innocent citizens. Does nothing to the cop other than let him slither away to an unsuspecting community.

Shows his butt at a restaurant over a political sign.

Such a jerk that even his own officers hate him.

Yep. Real excellent outstanding Chief.

Anonymous said...

A good chief doesn't let a bad cop quietly make his escape unless the good chief needs the bad cop to remain silent after they've parted ways.

Anonymous said...

The guy who cites the Hatch Act wouldn't know the Hatch Act if a newborn chick jumped out of it.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone else find it ironic that Houston will forever be best associated with the "Haute Pig".

MEOPLE said...

I don't think there were any other candidates for the job.

Anonymous said...

The interim was, after all, an interim. And he knew that. He was allowed to apply for the job just as others were. He served a worthy interim period and was not selected. He'll come away from it a better man and will continue to serve and be a great team leader. The bitchers on here, thank God, won't influence the department or its effectiveness.

Anonymous said...

And in other news, prospective Chief Deputy Brad Harbour has been hired by Gerald Barber at the Madison County Tax Assessor's Office.

Anonymous said...

If you have not figured it out yet, the Mayor of Ridgeland is the one who wanted Houston to run for Sheriff because he wanted his puppett in that position.
It is no secret that Ridgeland has become another Jackson, and the Mayor and Houston are the ones responsible.
Have yall seen the empty businesses and vacent business space in this City ? If you remember, this is how it started in South Jackson before crime took over and business owners started abandoning the area.
And yes, the officers at Ridgeland under Houston are afraid to do their jobs because if anyone complains on them ( even the criminals ), Houston will not back his own people.
He is R.O.D. ( retired on duty ) and the Mayor and Aldermen know this. So this should tell you about the integrity of the leadership of this city.
I would neve have a business in this city. And by the looks of the way politics works here, I would bet that several of them might have a photograph of others in this group screwing a goat or something.

Anonymous said...

There is no effectiveness under Houston you DUMMY. He was never there in the first place, so what makes you think that he will change his ways now.
And please everyone, tell your friends and families not to purchase anything in Ridgeland, or stay in any of their hotels.
Do not spend a dime in this city.
If the Mayor and Board of Aldermen
want to place an incompetent person in this important position and risk the safety and security of us and our families, then lets hit them i their pockett books where it really hurts.
Help me spread the word about this.

Anonymous said...

He hasn't made it as long as he has in law enforcement without doing something right. He can't have something on all of his previous employers. He'll be fine, the interim is a great guy who will continue doing a good job and will one day be a good chief. All the bitchers will continue to bitch and maybe leave, in which case, good riddance.

Anonymous said...

The bitchers on here, thank God, won't influence the department or its effectiveness.

No doubt Houston's (mis)handling of Soto has already proven you correct. Jimmy has 'effectiveness' down. Cold.

Anonymous said...

You should see the houses that have went up for sale in ridgeland! It's really sad. But I really feel for randy Tyler he was so good and everything was going so good then houston had to come back in and jack everything back up!

Anonymous said...

Maybe thru this whole thing. Perfect Houston and honest Christian man will learn how NOT TO BE A JERK and will learn how to treat his officers and dispatchers!!!!

Anonymous said...

O haha I thought Jimmy was going to win that sheriffs race without a doubt o he had it right??? O it was the jimmy houston race hands down!!?? RIGHT??? HAHAHAHAH WRONG!!!!!! Have fun at ridgeland!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anonymous said...

This was the plan the whole time! Jimmy Houston can't fire nobody and brad harbor with the permission of bish harbor will start to work at ridgeland the first of the year! Bra and Trish have to discuss it and trish has to approve it!!!

Anonymous said...

well if ridgeland is another jackson Madison is next. you can only run so long until there is nowhere else to go.

Shadowfax said...

I'm going riding this morning. Gotta see all these 'boarded up' bidnesses in Ridgeland. I know KFC closed up shop due to an inability to get to the store; but, where are all these other boarded up places?

PS: The 'goat screwing' comment is inappropriate and reflects only on the turd who wrote it.

Brad Harbour said...

Ok, I have sat back while people bashed me and my wife and harrassed my daughter during this past election. If you do not like me that is fine but the line has been crossed when you attack my family. If you are going to talk about me atleast stop hidding and put your name on it.

Anonymous said...

Settle down, Francis. You screwed over your brothers, broke your word and made a deal with the devil to try to get yourself named chief deputy.

As your wife did on a previous post, you come on here and whine and moan about "harassment" of your family. You ain't no victim, pal. You tried to pull a fast one. You lost. Nobody harassed you, your wife or your daughter. Now stop whining and get a job.

Anonymous said...

"The 'goat screwing' comment is inappropriate and reflects only on the turd who wrote it."

I doubt the poster meant that Houston or city officials literally "screw goats." It was another way of saying "dirty laundry," "knows where the bodies are buried," etc.

Even if Houston and friends were literally screwing goats, he would find a way to blame it on Michael Guest for not indicting the farmer for negligently leaving the gate unlocked, thereby causing said goat screwing.

Anonymous said...

Didn't know politics got so ugly until I saw the way people constantly attacked Mr. Harbour . I thought everyone was entitled to vote how they want and do what they want . It's not that serious the man did what he felt was best for him . The people who dwell on him and what he is doing only further show their ignorance , let the man and his family be the election is over Mr. Tucker won.

Anonymous said...

Then what?

Anonymous said...

Brad you most not let these retards call you out like that. have some dignity and let the preschoolers play. there is such a small percentage of people here posting over and over and over again... dont let them drag u down to their level. You have your friends and family's love be content in your on skin... unless there is truth to any of the comments?

Frugal Gal said...

Mr. Harbour, please don't give these online thugs the satisfaction of letting them think they've upset you. Even the best boards get trolls -- ill-informed, biased, angry, and socially disenfranchised people whose only emotional prop is to go after those who are willing to actually lead, as opposed to just bitch.

Those who can, do, and those who can't, well, they say ugly things online about the first group.

I don't know you from Adam's housecat, nor do I have any idea what kind of person you are, but by virtue of the fact that you were willing to subject yourself to the ugliness of a local campaign means, to me, you are a "do-er." Keep doing and just ignore the things that some sad little people write online.

Anonymous said...

Let Brad Harbour and his family be the man made a choice that was his to make . This is why we vote this is why we live in America . He did what he felt was best for him and his just as anyone else on this blog would do. The election is over Mr. Tucker is the next sheriff of Madison County let it be left at that. What the Harbours do from here on out shouldn't concern anyone but the Harbours . The way y'all gossip about the man I'd swear y'all were some females .

Anonymous said...

Even if Houston and friends were literally screwing goats, he would find a way to blame it on Michael Guest for not indicting the farmer for negligently leaving the gate unlocked, thereby causing said goat screwing.

ROFLMAO.

This is about crazy. Last time I checked the primary is over. Why would anyone come on here and attack a man's family. I live in Madison County and it just makes me want to vomit to see this kinda crap go on. I do know Brad Harbour and have known him for many years. My 3 children, as do hundreds of Madison County children, know him as he did numerous talks with our schools and those same children are now grown and remember how good he was to them each and every time he went to the schools. And to say he is whining, get over yourself. Harbour in his opinion, backed the most qualified man for the job and thought who would do best for the citizens of Madison County and for the department as a whole. It is a free country last time I checked. So you know what just shut up already and let this man and his family live in peace. And by the way, when I heard he was leaving the Sheriff's Dept. after 18 years it saddened me for the county. Tucker should be ashamed for letting this man leave. Just very disappointing.

Anonymous said...

1:10, that maybe true, but that is not the whole truth.

Anonymous said...

I remember seeing Brad out directing traffic on my way to school nice guy from what I saw . What he did was put his support behind who he thought should be sheriff. I love what the county does this man gave the county many years of service to the county let the man be. For those who feel he wronged you get over it Randy Tucker won the election its over with . As for Chief Houston ridgeland is a lovely place to live , I live here and love it.

Shadowfax said...

I'm no 'handwriting or syntax expert' but it's obvious to me that somewhere around six out of ten of the comments up to and including 1:32 were written by the same person. Well, not counting Frugal Gal who comes in to deliver cupcakes and snot-rags to all the contestants.

Anonymous said...

We certainly thank you Shadowfax for always attaching a psuedo-anonymous name to your extensive dribble. Now if we can only get Kingfish to launch an 'Ignore poster' feature our prayers will have been answered.

Frugal Gal said...

"... cupcakes and snot-rags ..."

WTF???

Anonymous said...

I could go for a cupcake. I prefer the white cake/icing style if I get a choice.

Shadowfax said...

re Frugal WTF; the crying towels you rushed in to issue the Harbours. Nothing like a little drama. Crying towels are also known as snot rags in the athletic world. I just threw in the cupcakes thinking you meant to pass them around.

I see I lost another Donna Ladd surrogate in 2:48. Hand me one of those snot rags please.......

Anonymous said...

Man Yall still on this . I thought this blog was about Houston coming back. How they gone some of RPD can't stand him and would prefer Tyler I think they should have gave him a chance . Houston left to pursue other endeavors and just came back like its all good .

Anonymous said...

Hand the harbours a snot rag please stick it in their mouth so they will stop crying o poor poor pitiful us we were so wronged! Boo hoo!

Frugal Gal said...

I actually know what snot rags and cupcakes are. But thanks for reducing "contributions" I may make to the exchanges here to that of somebody's caretaker or mommy. My double-x chromosones and I apologize if we've stepped out of line.

Anderson said...

Just think if Brad Harbour were *sheriff* and reviewing blog comments for what he considers suitable. So sorry we missed *that* spectacle.

Welcome to America, Mr. Harbour. People say what they please here. If you don't like it, don't read it.

SOOOOOOOOOO freakin childish. there was a time when KF used to not let this crap through. I guess society gets the better of all of us huh KF.

Right on Anderson. Nothing forces anyone to read anything here.

$100 CASH down on FrugalGal kicking Shadowfax's inconsequential ass.

If Jimmy Houston wants the respect of his underlings, the easiest way to start is by pissing of the mayor and alderman of ridgeland and demanding a pay raise. as a resident of ridgeland for 23+ years I have always been impressed with the response time and professionalism of the city's officers. Houston, I have come to learn is a no-nonsense cop. He demands accountability and respect. Is houston always perfect? No he is not. He is seen as a jackass to those that have felt his wrath. But to many more he is seen as an accesible leader, and getting things done to keep ridgeland safe. Welcome back Houston, prove to the boots on the ground you support them. get them a raise.

Anonymous said...

"he is seen as a jackass to those who have felt his wrath."

The problem is that the only officers who feel his wrath are honest officers trying to do their job but don't kiss his ass. Sorry abusive officers who show up to work wearing a bib always have Chief Jackass' support. These are more than Soto.

The Jimmy Houston you saw at the haute pig is the real Jimmy Houston in all his thinskin glory.

You people who think Houston is the second coming of Buford Pusser are idiots.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
