Congratulations to Quentin Whitwell

Congratulations to Mr. Quentin Whitwell, the new Jackson City Councilman from Ward 1. He won with 90% of the vote and now gets to deal with Harvey and the rest of the City Council, not to mention the rest of us telling him every day what he is doing wrong. Turnout yesterday was 25% of the vote, which is pretty good for a city council special election.

25% is incredible for a special election! Whats even more impressive is that 90% voted for Quentin....that means HE, not his opponent, got that 25% out to vote! I am IMPRESSED with both feats!

Sorry to burst the bubble of the HOMER above but the special in 2007 in which Weill got elected had a FAR LARGER TURNOUT than yesterday. Weill WON that election OUTRIGHT against 3 other opponents -- including John Ditto -- WITHOUT NEEDING a RUNOFF!

I think said homer was engaging in sarcasm, which is duly noted. ;-)

This was a "special election" dumbass, with no one else on the ballot. Sorry "Homer" but what happened yesterday regarding turnout was amazing. Local "experts" predicted a turnout of 2,200.

Go kick your dog.

How did he know my name was Homer? I AM impressed with that as well! But what my detractor fails to realize is that only 2 people were in this race and Q's opponent did not get anyone out to vote...which means Q got them out all by himself. Im sure other races have had larger turn outs but 25% is good. That was a well run campaign by who will now be known as simply "THE Q"

And all of this in spite of that ringing endorsement from the jfp! .......hmmm

Now 25% goes from 'incredible' to merely 'good'. Weill's 2007 election was a special election. No other election on the ballot. City Clerk predicted a turnout yesterday of 4000. Ignoramus.

All of you anon big dogs. Go run for something. Be a man (I would say woman, but those that do post rarely do the posting totally anon). Do something....anything...but for God's sake give the MAN his due...he RAN....he WON.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, the big man ran and won but he would have preferred to get his opponent disqualified so he could proceed directly to his coronation. We should all be impressed. Big dog, big dog.

Another 3-4 taxpayers left Jackson today.

One thing I found curious was Patricia Ice's slogan. Did anyone else notice the bottom of her signs bore the words, "Let's Keep Jackson Moving"? Interesting choice, considering the direction Jackson has been moving in the past decade plus. We're all familiar with the recent dust up regard the census numbers as they relate to the white population of the city. It seems Ms. Ice's slogan could easily be interpreted as "code" to encourage black voters to keep pushing white folks out by electing her. I don't think it takes a huge leap of logic to assume the election of a radical, agenda-driven immigration rights attorney to the city council would be enough to make even the staunchest last-stand Jacksonians flee to the higher ground of Madison/Rankin/Clinton.

Lest you think I'm reading too much into this, remember Judge Samac Richardson's 2004 campaign and his slogan, "One of us for all of us." A Google search of that phrase still brings up outraged liberals writing from ivory towers as far away as DC and New York decrying the racial code of Richardson's message. Where are these same intrepid voices who were so concerned about veiled racial language?

Yeah, maybe it's hogwash, but it does make for an interesting intellectual exercise.

Yeah, Anon@8:59, how dare he check and see if the election laws were followed, huh? He should have just trusted that the democrats wouldn't cheat, right?

I would like to thank the Poll workers at Casey School, Prec. 33 for being so efficient and effective in conducting a Election. They started appearing here a few elections back, and It is A GREAT IMPROVEMENT.
THANK YOU, job well done!

Congratulations Councilman Quentin Whitwell !

You did not "just win" , you thoroughly kicked ass.

As one prophet said : "And while the hypocrite from the Land of Neshoba shall cry with her man-servant from the land of Todd,
The Ice impostor will seek refuge under the skirt of the Dark Empress from the Kingdom of Canton " .

Where are these same intrepid voices who were so concerned about veiled racial language?

In a Fondren Corner office endorsing fringe candidates.

I would congratulate, but I feel sorry for anyone with merit serving on the J City Council. The last experience I had in showing up as a citizen for a meeting to express concerns, there were not enough council members to warrant a forum. I had to take personal time off of work a second time to attend the next meeting in hopes that enough members showed up. I was glad enough of them did show up the 2nd time. Yet, I was totally unimpressed with the level of intelligence and the lack of motivation of the majority of the members. God bless those that are truly serving, but I would rather pluck all of the hairs on my legs, one-by-one, than endure being on that council.

So can you take down his campaign ad from the home page now? ;-)

What is funny is a little troll keeps sending comments about QW's alleged placing of signs in right of way.

Dude, knock it off. Ice OWNED the right of ways. The most dangerous place to be in jackson last two weeks was between Patricia Ice's yard signs and a right of way.

Amazing the coward you have become.

One of these days, I am going to get a tape measure and make sure each of those campaign workers that hang around polling booths are at the legal limit. I know the state doesn't care if you violate the laws, but it'll be fun harassing people about it.

you have to admire the will or stupidity one of someone wanting the job of jackson city councilman. to surround yourself with ignorance and stupidity to the highest degree on a daily basis is not my idea of a good job. i hope he can do some good for jackson but i beleive it's a lost cause. enjoy your co workers, and have your blood pressure pills at the ready!

I'm glad that Ice woman got put in her place!! She had no dog in the fight in the first place. Just a pesky little nuisance.

I am sure with the election of Mr. Whitwell (congratulations), this blog will be placing a microscope somewhere.

9:45, there is a small but growing cadre of people who live in Jackson and are wanting to change the face (no pun intended...) of city council. For example, I am white, the proverbial "swing vote," have two years of college, and am tired of the joke that city council has become, and live in NE Jackson. I want to change things. I want to bring dignity back to our city government. Not an easy task but I think there are a lot of people out there that just might support me.

Swing vote? You've got to be kidding. The current members of the Jackustan Clowncil of Elders has its quibbles but on the big stuff they aren't split. No split, no swing.

Anonymous said...

10:58, what I meant by "Swing" vote is that sometimes I vote Rep and sometimes I vote Dem. However, I see your point. Again, I want to change the "Clowncil of Elders" and make City Council something to be proud of. Hmmm.... note to self, stock up on wine before you run. you are going to need all kinds of support.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
