Madison-Rankin District Attorney Bubba Bramlett issued the following statement.
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney John K. “Bubba” Bramlett announced today
that Deon Luckett, Jr., 19, was sentenced to serve eighteen years in the custody of the
Mississippi Department of Corrections for armed robbery.
On January 7, 2026, officers with the Ridgeland Police Department were dispatched at around 6
a.m. to the Sonic located on Highway 51 in Ridgeland in reference to an armed robbery. The
victim, who was the store manager, reported that while he was exiting the business, a man
pushed back into the store and pointed a gun at him. The suspect cut the lights and surveillance
off on his way to the store safe. He was unable to access the safe but ultimately took a money
bag that had approximately $50 dollars in cash and exited the building. The victim then ran to
his car where he was ambushed by Luckett a second time. Luckett attempted to rob him again,
but the victim was able to drive away.
Once on scene, officers located a ticket from the DMV waiting line system on the ground near where the robbery in the parking lot occurred. They retrieved the DMV surveillance and were able to develop the suspect as Deon Luckett. He had renewed his driver’s license the day before he committed the robbery. RPD investigators obtained a search warrant for Luckett’s house and located the clothes he wore during the robbery and two Sonic employee badges. They also recovered the Sonic money bag that was stolen during the robbery. Luckett was taken into custody at his place of employment: the Sonic in Clinton. He pled guilty in Madison County Circuit Court on July 29 to armed robbery and was sentenced to eighteen years in prison. District Attorney Bramlett stated, “It is obvious to me that this individual used the information he learned while working at another Sonic in the area to target the Ridgeland business. He attacked an innocent person who was simply attempting to work an honest job and earn a living. I want to thank the Ridgeland Police Department for their excellent investigatory work on this case which allowed my office to resolve it quickly.”

I gave up eating fast food in the 90s because all it took was working in one restaurant during high school to see how much scum these people are. And they still wore hairnets back then too!

As a Hinds County resident, I would like to thank Madison County for taking a problem off our hands. Y'all be sure and lock him up good and tight for a long long time. Thanks again!

Storys like this make me laugh. I hope he goes away for a long time. People who pull guns on other people to take their money need to be beaten within an inch of their life and will never be rehabilited. Lock them up and throw away the key.

Put himself right where he belongs....prison. This kid brings absolutely nothing to the table of our society. I'm sure he loves rap music and the lifestyle it glamorizes. He probably loved being disruptive in class during high school and didn't learn a damn thing. If he hasn't yet he was going to father multiple illegitimate children. Everybody he associates with thinks this is all normal behavior. His mother raised a real winner because she and her friends think the same way. We don't have a race problem, we have a problem race.
