Gluckstadt Wants a Rematch

The city of Gluckstadt won't take no for an answer.

Gluckstadt filed a notice of appeal after losing its annexation fight against the city of Madison last month.  Chancellor James Walker approved Madison's petition to annex 430 acres situated between the two cities.

The area in question includes Cherry Hill, Belle Terre, Bozeman Paine Circle, and properties along the Galleria Parkway and Highway 51.

Judge Walker held:

Considering the above, under a totality of the circumstances, the Court finds that Madison's annexation is reasonable and appropriate and is, therefore, approved in full.  Even Gluckstadt's own expert, Mr. Watson, concedes that Madison's annexation 1s reasonable. On the other hand, Gluckstadt was not contemplating this annexation until Madison began its efforts. Gluckstadt's PAA was not part ofits incorporation effort or the study area in its adopted Comprehensive Plan. Gluckstadt's chief aim is apparently to have this Court split the territory and grant it tax revenue.Gluckstadt, while it can be commended for its efforts in fonnulating its new departments and services, is still very young. The Court is not persuaded that Gluckstadt's very short history and path of growth satisfies the requirements for this particular annexation. Further, the overwhelming majority of citizens supported annexation by Madison rather than Gluckstadt. As such, under the totality of the circumstances, Gluckstadt's annexation petition is denied.
Jurisdiction for the appeal lies with the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Kingfish note: It is hard to see how Gluckstadt wins.  The majority of the residents stated they preferred to live in Madison.  Gluckstadt is a new city and still establishing services.  Prediction? Court rules in favor of Madison 6-3 or 7-2.

They just want more mini storage and gas stations.

Mary - please get it.

Gluckstadt looks like “Temu Town” to me. No planning, no codes, nobody cares about how things look. Not one tree has been planted yet almost all of them have been cut down. Hope Madison wins.

Take the loss, Gluckstadt. Judge Walker made a good decision. Why waste the money on the appeal?

@4:55pm - Blame the Madison County Board of Stupidvisors for that. Most all of the gas stations and mini storage buildings were approved by them before the city was able to incorporate. BoS just rubber stamped anything that came in front of them, as they still do. Like appointing effing Colleen Wise as a Justice Court judge, lol wtf BoS. Thanks Rino Steen and the 2 Dems for that travesty.

@5:52pm - The city attorneys, who will profit greatly from this regardless of outcome, recommended they do it. Imagine that.

That town is a joke. Just like its fire chief.

Gluckstadt should realize there are good reasons the majority of residents in the area to be annexed…prefer to be in the City of Madison. Dips__ts - wasting $$$’s on legal fees, because it’s not their money, and they can.

Sure hope the City of Gluckstadt is not getting legal advice from their staunch ANTI-civil liberties so-called Judge - Trae Sims. And sure hope nobody’s innocent love one’s charged with a crime they didn’t commit end up hiring “Your Trusted Criminal Defense.” At least the public defender would likely believe in your right to civil liberties.

I know our neighbors overwhelmingly want to be in Madison and I think most all in the contested areas do as well.

But wait for it.... Appeal does mean a ruling could be reversed all or in part. So what's a loss for one now could be a big win. All of those citizens paying city taxes in Madison and Gluckstadt must realize that is YOUR tax money being spent. Repeat- A ruling at MS SC could be reversed ALL or in PART. Does anyone know what an appeal cost on average at MS SC?

Gluckstadt does not have an appointed fire chief nor an official city fire dept. The county district provides fire protection. If you don't like the appointed Chief for that COUNTY District go see that board .. or better yet go be a chief. Madison has a great fire chief. So please sit down over there wherever you are.

Correct, MC BOS was full on for anyone who wanted any site in the Gluckstadt area before the incorporation was in effect. But even Trey Baxter voted for some of it too. The city got what they were handed. Can't polish a turd in a short time. Takes time. Then more time. On that stupid appointment by MR Steen. What did folks expect Steen to do? That's behind the scenes favors. Y'all know all those names. Check past employment there and a** kissing. Then pull campaign filings.

I wish Shad would investigate Gerald Steen. Get rid of him and Madison County might catch up with Madison the city.

Thanks to the Madison County Board of Supervisors.

I'd be willing to bet a good deal of Gluckstadt wishes it had been annexed by Madison.

Exactly right no one wins except the lawyers; AND remember, Gluckstadt's mayor is an ambulance chancing trial lawyer himself, and has many attorney friends who he owes favors to. Let's see who the good mayor hires to handle the appeal.

Good grief the area was commercial and industrial well before incorporating, the very people who were the landowners of the vast majority of the land are why it it is what it is. Gluckstadt will always be a buffer between Canton and Madison as Ridgeland is to Jackson.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
