The city of Gluckstadt lost the Battle for the new Reunion Parkway Interchange after a Madison County Chancellor approved the city of Madison's petition to annex the area. Madison and Gluckstadt both tried to annex 430 acres situated between the two cities. Chancellor James Walker approved Madison's petition while denying Gluckstadt's.

The area in question includes Cherry Hill, Belle Terre, Bozeman Paine Circle, and properties along the Galleria Parkway and Highway 51.
The 100-page opinion concluded:
Considering the above, under a totality of the circumstances, the Court finds that Madison's annexation is reasonable and appropriate and is, therefore, approved in full. Even Gluckstadt's own expert, Mr. Watson, concedes that Madison's annexation 1s reasonable. On the other hand, Gluckstadt was not contemplating this annexation until Madison began its efforts. Gluckstadt's PAA was not part ofits incorporation effort or the study area in its adopted Comprehensive Plan. Gluckstadt's chief aim is apparently to have this Court split the territory and grant it tax revenue. Gluckstadt, while it can be commended for its efforts in fonnulating its new departments and services, is still very young. The Court is not persuaded that Gluckstadt's very short history and path of growth satisfies the requirements for this particular annexation. Further, the overwhelming majority of citizens supported annexation by Madison rather than Gluckstadt. As such, under the totality of the circumstances, Gluckstadt's annexation petition is denied.
Upon consideration of the testimony and substantial and credible evidence, the Court finds that under the totality of the circumstances, the annexation proposed by the City of Madison is reasonable under the twelve indicia of reasonableness and required by the public convenience and necessity; that reasonable public and municipal services will be rendered within a reasonable time; and, that the governing authority of the municipality has complied with applicable law pertaining to the subject annexation. The Court, having considered the proposed annexation as reasonable and required by the public convenience and necessity, does hereby ap rove, ratify, and confirm the annexation ordinance and "proposed enlargement of Madison's boundaries and awards the total proposed annexation area to Madison pursuant to MISS. CODE ANN.§ 21-1-33. The Court shall enter a Final Judgment approving the extension of the City of Madison's municipal boundaries as proposed by the City of Madison.
Gluckstadt has ten days to appeal the decision.

Great news for those that get to be in the class act City of Madison, that treats residents with respect; instead of the speed trapper amateurs in Gluckstadt. And what a pathetic joke that Gluckstadt Muni judge is. Doesn’t show up for court but instead sends his gal to tell everybody “he is going to rule against you but you can (take off of work again) and come back if you want to.” Classless.
Too bad the City of Madison can’t just take Gluckstadt and send those amateurs home.
I wonder if the judge got a speeding ticket recently in Gluckstadt? Really glad Gluckstadt PD isn’t getting a new area to harass.
It's Trae Sims. What do you
expect?
The overwhelming majority of the residents in the area don’t want to fund a new police station or any other whim of the new city by paying fines for driving 2 miles over the limit. Wise up Gluckstadt residents, you better get rid of those clowns and police department before you can’t shake that reputation forever.
I don't know if anyone has driven through Gluckstadt lately, but it is the land of gas stations and cheap strip malls. Very ugly town. Will be Pearl 2.0 in 10 years. This is a win.
Speed Trap and wanna be cops. Not very professional police. Never been stopped by them don't know any one who has but just watching them tells the story.Much better in Madison.
This ruling will significantly hurt the city of Gluckstadt. They are now land locked between Canton and Madison.
I know a first responder who lives in Gluckstadt and got a speeding ticket for going 3 mph over the posted limit. No school zone. Some very questionable leadership in that town.
Glad those upstarts in Gluckstadt lost that one. Hopefully more to come.
Gluckstadt is on the Ridgeland path if they don't fix it pdq
Gluckstadt does not need to worry themselves with annexation of any property. They had possibly the greatest opportunity to do something great at their interchange w/ the guaranteed growth they were receiving and they totally shit the bed.......totally.
Garbage. Gluckstadt has plenty of room to grow.
4:20. I don’t follow. Gluckstadt would still be landlocked between Madison and Canton, had they won.
Did you think Madison and Gluckstadt would be intertwined and be a shared jurisdiction? That wasn’t the goal.
They dropped the speed limit on Gluckstadt Road to 35, after the incorporation. I wonder how often that mayor laid in bed dreaming of the day he could authorize they change that speed limit sign, just so he could feel empowered. Broad shoulders you’ve got there, City Gluckstadt.
Enforcing laws is one thing. Being assholes is another.
I wish I owned that large corn field along the main Gluckstadt hiway.
Gluckstadt leadership should show out and Disband the Police Dept and respectfully ask The Sherriff to handle law enforcement, nothing more is needed. The current PD seems to have nothing to do but go to places where speeding over the limit is expected due to artificially lowered limits for the area roads and gleefully with clicking heals, write working people tickets. Deputies in all 3 local counties seem to be of the mind that if you are not a problem, they will be no problem. I can deal with that mentality fairly well as can most people.
The residents in Gluckstadt are extremely angry people. They have to drive 8 miles to far twice a day, come home to way too much traffic, have strip buildings which look horrible the day they were built, and face a growing number of “others” in their public schools (which is why they had to flee jackson.) This RV park with Rock Ridge looking rental buildings will soon be Highway 80 west.
Gluckstadt lost the Reunion "Pineapple Parkway" ... but no doubt gained yet another possible subdivision of ten thousand additional starter homes somewhere in a Yandell Road cow pasture.
The real idiots are the Madison County Board of Supervisors who created that complete mess with the unrelenting housing development they've allowed without even a hint of a viable road system sufficient to carry the volume in the area.
Does this mean that the Glutzstadt police dept. will no longer be financed by the speed trap between Bozeman Road and the interstate?
Gluckstadt Fire Department is a JOKE. They only seem to hire friends and relatives, regardless of ability or qualifications. Look at the leadership.
Sims is the former City of Madison prosecutor. He was a jerk then too. But if you need a jerk lawyer … he can be yours, if the price is right
As a "boomer Kid" during the late 1950's early 60's, we were only a few years removed from World War II.
We remember the Nazi/Afrika Corps POW Camp in Clinton,
The Dutch (Royal Netherlands Air Force) at Hawkins Field,
The massive ammo plant in Flora, and a small airstrip outside of Madison Station that became known as "Bruce Campbell" airfield.
And there was also a small German farm community in Madison County. They had been there since the late 1800's/early 1900's. These folks named
their community Gluckstadt.
Their history is easy to research,
I doubt the original German immigrants would be happy about 2025
Gluckstadt.
It was 'Back Night', and I can barely move. Will sleep like a rock. We're in the metro, tonight, and went to a gym in Gluckstadt - our Jackson-area go-to, since the Scamdemic killed 'The Courthouse'. As usual, the kids working-out there, and the ones working the desk, were SO nice, it was basically a healing experience. Well-scrubbed, bangs down past their eyebrows, polite, actually HELPFUL.... these are the PATRONS, I'm talking about. I've said this before, and have to say it again: whatever community raised these kids, they did an unbelievable job. Gives me a bit of hope for humanity.
So, enough with the bitter comments, already. It's a nice community. And some of the buildings are definitely part of the 'Madison Watershed': copied from ones designed for Madison (developers and contractors - including mine - have been going into Madison City Hall and snapping pictures, since around 2000). There are a few gems, scattered amid the typical stuff.
Obviously, being part of Madison, is better for those annexed. As someone fascinated by demographic maps, I typically see Madison as the ONLY place between Belle Meade, Mountain Brook, and Highland Park. Who else has a Swedish Chamber of Commerce?
As for Gluckstadt, the natives are sweet, nice people. I hate to see their singular community disappear in a flood of newcomers.
@6:19 gets it. What a debacle. No plan or forward thinking
Gluckstadt is just Byram North
9:29 PM, it’s hard to believe Trae Sims is the former City of Madison anything. Mary usually has much better instincts. It’s hilarious how others in Madison County GOV & LEO talk about Sims and the Gluckstadt Police.
Heard somewhere, maybe here, that Sims was involved in the Clayton Kelly trial?
I don’t have a dog in this show, but the comments are eye opening.
It's been a while since I have been to Gluckstadt. The way the above posters are commenting, the revenue collectors of the town are like Wilmer, Alabama, before the state pulled their incorporation.
The last entanglement I had with such a place was Uniontown, Alabama, which is between Demopolis, and Selma, Alabama. In that case they held court on Veteran's Day, 2007. Yes, I know it was a state, and federal holiday, but they were collecting revenue.
I’ve never seen more rental buildings with a shelf life of 15 years (?) get constructed so closely with so many differing design elements. Zero zoning with gas stations next to fast food next to a church next to a turnip place next to a field next to another set of white oddly shaped facades like from a bad 80s movie set. Housing with barns and above ground pools. It’s like deep Rankin county got a very bad version of Property Brothers and “make a meth house…but worse” was the theme. Best of luck on this blighted POS place.
@5:29 Yep. What hacks me off is both places had the chance to really do things right from the start and both cities fumbled the opening kickoff.
7:24 nails it.
wilmer alabama.................the potted plant capitol of the world.
also one of the most s*%t hole towns in america.
take a look at it next time you drive down to destin.
its right there on hwy 98.
that place is exactly what gluckstadt is turning into.
@ 7:30 - You can thank The Honorable King Gerald Steen and his merry band of county supervisors for the jumbled mess that is Gluckstadt's planning. All that crap happened before incorporation.
I see we have a bunch of Mayor Greedy Tyrant's minions in this chat. Yall are a joke. Gluckstadt deserves to grow just as Madison had the opportunity to over the last 40 years. They also started from scratch with a PD that wrote tickets, but most of you are probably too young and naive to remember. This was always David vs. Goliath, how dare little ol' Gluckstadt try to challenge the Queen of backroom political deals? I hope the Gluckstadt Board appeals this clearly biased opinion, which only shows that Walker is in the Mayor's pocket. He better not run for re-election.
And all of you commenting on the haphazard zoning approvals to include strip buildings, gas stations, infrastructure, etc. can thank the COUNTY BOS for that mess. Gluckstadt incorporated in order to FIX the mess the county made. They have only been incorporated 4 years, and have accomplished a ton in that short time... they have 20+ years to undo! They just held their first election, you haven't even given them a chance. It does not happen overnight, you fools, same with every other city that has incorporated, to include your precious Madison. Infrastructure projects can take years to get completed and cost millions. None of you have worked in the public sector and it shows.
Spoiled.
Or don't speed, that would have been an option.
Gluckstadt will be perfectly fine. It is currently booming, as people keep heading north, it won't have any choice but to grow. As far as the tickets, any department that starts from scratch does the same thing to set the tone. Look at all of the new suburbs around Bham. They are the same way.
You have a choice to exceed the speed limit or not. If working people don't want a ticket, don't speed. It's a pretty simple concept.
Most of the mini-storage, gas station, and office/warehouse type facilities were either built, or rezoned, prior to Gluckstadt incorporating. So that isn't Gluckstadt's fault. I do question why the supervisors allowed so much C-2 zoning, but that's not Gluckstadt's fault. As for the police issue, I do think the speed limit on Gluckstadt Road is too low, but the police are just enforcing the laws. There are tons of speeders.
Looks like 11:07 hit the nail square on the head!
There must be some bored housewife members of the infamous madison mammas group on this thread spreading the same old tired rumor of GPD writing tickets for 2-5 miles over in that Gluckstadt Rd or Calhoun Station 35. To all of you pot stirrers, PROVE IT. I challenge you to post a picture of your ticket, redacting identifying info, to show your speed and that it was written by GPD.
Waiting...you haven't been able to provide receipts in that group either.
*crickets* because, FAKE NEWS.
I own a business in Gluckstadt and appreciate GPD and all they do to protect my business and our growing community. They are setting the precedent that we don't play around these parts either, if you want to be a law breaker, best move to Jacktown or Canton.
5:40 pm you have not idea what you are talking about, the county has had that stretch of road 35 forever, after a traffic study advised it. Quit spreading ill-informed garbage.
Ya’ll do realize how dumb most of you all look right? Cause everyone on here putting Madison on a shelf…. When other half of Gluckstadt Police officers came from Madison PD to develop that department….. so if they came from the department you all seem to love so well how can they be “want to be cops” or low life scum bags that ya’ll are making by them out to be….. nuff said.
If they are speeding, write them all up. Zero tolerance. Go GPD!
I’m just curious are any of you idiots happy about anything? Y’all ain’t doing nothing but yapping and running your mouths about stuff ya’ll know nothing about. Half of yall probably don’t even live in Gluckstadt or Surrounding area lol! Ya’ll prob complain about your coffee being hot to!
Why is every cop in GPD a Sergeant? Friend asked and I said I’d ask.
Facts 2:42. Hell, half of the current Gluckstadt staff LEFT the misery of working for a fascist regime to find better opportunity and work for the Gluckstadt Mayor!
Well damn, looks like cuckstadts biggest fan has entered the comments. You’re a little late to the party but trying to catch up with a flurry of comeback comments that would make Shad White jealous.
I have been impressed with Gluckstadt's mayor (Walter Morrison). He seems sharp, and seems like he wants the city to do well.
Gluckstadt will be ok. The bad news for drivers is PD is gonna be all over the roads awarded in the annex. MORE Tickets, more pissed off folks because it is THEIR fault they don't obey driving laws or speed. . Good news is more offenders with guns and drugs will be caught, put in jail and ohhh as taxpayers we pay for that to.WIN Is the PD depts and courts of any city will take your money. All Day Long. On another note " Pineapple Parkway" is hilarious.
All the comments about the Gluckstadt cops have to be from folks that didnt drive in south Madison County when when Madison and Ridgeland were first incorporated and formed their own police departments.
They were EXACTLY like Gluckstadt is today. EXACTLY!!!
Canton should have annexed all the way down to the former Levi Strauss plant because it was Canton who installed the fire hydrants to Levi Strauss under the Sidney Runnels administration. This one of the reasons why Madison never annexed Gluckstadt. That is what I heard. Gluckstadt can start to move eastward toward highway 43 to Browns Landing and create a resort in partnership with the Pearl River Water Valley Authority. Just saying.
Agreed, 11:17! In the last couple of years, Gluckstadt seems to have developed a signature look - really good branding, if you ask me. I suspect it's a distillation of the style the original colony brought from the Old Country. From here on out, I expect more of it.
As for the tickets, I've observed plenty of extreme speeding, there, and personally think they need to DOUBLE-DOWN on enforcement. For people who enjoy lawlessness, and driving as if the Laws of Physics were arbitrary, there's a whole city, 18 miles to the south. I think they call it Rawboobooville. In German, I'd call it Rohboobooplatz.
No failed municipality, like Canton and Jackson, should be allowed to annex even one incremental inch.
Keep fighting Bubba
Livingston is calling! 463/22 will be on the list of what’s next. Big money out there. Just check the real estate values. Canton? Gluckstadt? Flora? Madison?
Already gone! The poor Catholic Church cannot even have Germanfest anymore. Germanfest was the community coming together. Sad
Supreme Court will affirm. Gluckstadt should save its money or get Trae Sims to handle it for free
Must be the resident Gluckstadt Peeping Tom commenting here!
Dream on, they like to farm and don’t need the money!
Next time you get stopped in Gluckstadt , Ask the patrolmen to calibrate his speed gun on the spot. He should be able to give you the degree of accuracy for his gun.
Love the “don’t break the law” comments. Tough guys. All about law and order aren’t they? Until it’s a friend or family member, right? Let’s put every speed trapper Gluckstadt LEO and Judge Trae Sims on the stand and under oath, then ask them “have you ever fixed a ticket?” Their answer will tell you whether or not they have an ounce of integrity.
Nobody wants reckless dangerous driving. But Gluckstadt is ridiculous and another Wilmer Alabama, not serving and protecting in many cases, just fleecing.
Re: so-called Judge Sims, his website is beyond hilarious. “Trae’s primary practice area is criminal defense in state and federal courts, including a wide range of criminal matters such as DUI, drug possession, theft, fraud, assault and violent crimes.”
Bwahahahahaha. We know most criminal defense attorneys are in it for the money, but they at least pretend to be civil libertarians. But Judge Trae Sims? Sometimes he doesn’t even show up for court, just has his gal tell everyone taking off of work to be in court that they are guilty with no chance to prove their innocence.
We really need to find a way to alert the public about this guy. My God, can you imagine having the future of a loved one wrongly accused of a crime, in the hands of “criminal defense attorney Trae Sims?”
Caught Sims and his client MHP lying over records fight we had. Ethics ruled in my favor.
Gluck made a huge mistake retaining Sims as their Municipal Judge, the newly elected board needs to can him, there are so many more qualified candidates out there. He is a pre-madonna that doesn't apply the law fairly to all, if he understands the law at all - it's just whatever his temperature is that day or if he ate his wheaties that morning. My son got a warrant because of failure to appear (honest mistake, we did not receive a notice and got confused on the actual court date) and he was unforgiving. That Marsha Stacey at Justice Court is very bright and I believe serves as their secondary Judge, they need to promote her and send Sims packing!!
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the peasantry argue about which sht hole is better this morning: madison or gluckstadt. I love the passion. Thanks for the entertainment.
"He is a pre-madonna "
Uh, any relation to "prima donna"?
With respect, for those who will be annexed start saving now for the added tax to your property which will come due by Feb 1 2026. The reason it would NOT be due to MC is if appealed and heard by MS Supreme Court. An appeal could take a few years. Eventually one of the cities will get your money in added property assessments. If the case lands in appeal, MC can approve whatever they want in the area. Remember that too. It happened to Gluckstadt. The MC board as a whole did not deny one request in the proposed city area when that community was tied up in appeal for about 2 years. Convenience stores, truck stops, crappy buildings, half-ass code inspections ( sometimes) and on and on. Careful what you ask for. Don't you just love courts, and the "system"?
hmmm well does the Mayor of Gluckstadt know that and still supports him as Municipal Judge? Interesting.
"None of you have worked in the public sector", you're right. I had jobs that required accountability my entire working life.
Thanks for noticing that, 12:57! It's WONDERFUL. That malapropism needs to be written into a good, White-Trash-themed dark comedy. It sounds more Rust Belt than Southern, though.
