Some rather bold thieves hit the Tyson chicken plant recently.
The scoundrels placed an Entergy contract magnet on the side of a work van. They arrived at the gate every Friday between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM for a month. They told the security guard they were contractors hired by Entergy to remove a major electrical item and they could only work after hours and on weekends.
The guard allowed the perps to enter the premises every time. The thieves wound up stealing over $100,000 in copper while gutting the entire xformer.

That transformer must not be hooked up to anything if they were stealing parts for a month and no one noticed anything.
Is the security guard a retired MHP trooper? (asking for a friend who got a ticket)
Guard is now working where? Sounds more like he knew exactly what was going on and like he "Big Guy" was getting his cut.
I hope the gate/guard house has HQ video they can use to find vehicle.
Well.....what happened to them? Arrested, at large or what?
proving that most of the biggest heists are made without ever pulling a gun.
That security company needs to be out of business. Holy shit.
this was an inside job. not even a security guard could be that stupid.
the air france heist at idelwild airport in new york , now kennedy airport, by the lucasse crime family in the early 70s was the same m. o.
Who buys the copper? To me it is as simple as putting the ones out of business that buy illegally obtained materials. Or would that put them all out of business?
I ahte to say it, but that is awesome.
Methinks that the security guy was wired into the deal.
It was a back up unit so it only came on if the one in use went out.
No one at the plant knew what was going on until it was gone.
I’m at electrician and I’d wager the copper stolen from that xformer that size would be worth $150k+.
And, the cost and labor to install an entirely new unit including all wiring would be $1Mm+\-.
That copper is more than mere chicken feed.
Mark my words...this will make the cost of our chicken wings go up again.
Thieves sell copper in Texas.
Do you buy a new transformer like that from Lowes?
Or is that a Home Depot exclusive?
Might take a week or so to get a new one. Plus the hot shot trucking!
If what 12:39 says is true, and it sounds like they know what they are talking about(look at me using pronouns) then this is 110% inside job. I doubt the security guy knows which unit is a backup, but the person who sliced him off a piece to let the crooks through knew it was a backup
Put these things on a timer set to fire up randomly.
Wasn't there some hospital in Mississippi, a week or two back, whose power went down, at which point BOTH backups were discovered to be nonfunctional? Or was that in national news?
So security didn’t ask for a work order or verify with maintenance group. Think there is more to the story. Agree it has the look of inside job. Try getting past security in the day time without being on a list or guard calling someone for verification.
I believe that was Baptist Hospital in Jackson.
Wasn't Tyson on 2 shifts? Most poultry plants are.
If this had occurred in Jackson the Socrates Electric Contractors would be able to fix it in no time at all. Right?
I hate this happened. I hope Tyson goes after some folks and puts them under the jail. This is an extraordinary cost to face.
