Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens issued the following statement.
Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announces the successful prosecution in the three-day trial of Christopher Butler, who was convicted of first-degree murder.
On April 27, 2018, JPD officers responded to a shooting where they found an unidentified male lying at the intersection of Terry Rd and Colonial Drive. The male was later identified as 36-year-old Damian Harris who succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Butler shot and killed Harris over an on-going dispute.
Surveillance footage showed Butler approaching Mr. Harris and gunning him down. Days later, JPD homicide detectives recovered the firearm used to shoot Mr. Harris, and a witness was able to identify and confirm Butler as the shooter.
Butler received a life sentence in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole.
“This is another tragic incident of a personal dispute ending in senseless gun violence.”, says District Attorney Owens. “I am proud that the jury were able to examine the facts, and return the verdict, guilty, we hope the end of this chapter begins a new one of peace to the Harris family.”

Jody, it took six fooking years, so quit patting yourself on the back. Justice DELAYED is justice DENIED.
(Is this one of those "25%" life sentences?
That is one way to settle a dispute.
Six years?
Jody's big donor George Soros is not happy with this one!
Whole lotta succumbing in Hinds County these days-
Life? And there was surveillance footage? I believe this is the perfect example for a speedy execution.

So this case was a WhoDoneiIt for several years. The video surveillance was a paint store on the other side of 80 so couldn’t id just on that.
However, after the murder, the defendant sold the gun on the street. A few years later, the guy who the defendant sold the gun to got pulled over with and police arrested him for felon on possession of a firearm. The lab traced the gun to this murder, purchaser led back to the defendant. During the police interview, defendant admitted to shooting the victim but claimed self defense.
That’s why it took 6 years.
Lmao @ this being Jody fault for taking 6 years to prosecute. He hasn’t even been the DA for 6 year but hey, go off, toots.
