Trash Talk: Food Fight!!!

or Tomming Stokes

Want to see mob rule in action?  Check out this clip of the City Council chambers after the City Council special meeting adjourned.

The Mayor started preaching to the crowd as he exhorted all to support him in his crusade to put a 96-gallon garbage cart in every driveway, courtesy of Detroit.  It is not known if the Purple People Eaters are involved.  However, the mob soon became rather unruly as a Jackson Advocate "reporter" accused one Kenneth I. Stokes of being a Tom.  Then the fun really began.  Start around 18:00. Enjoy.

"Can the mayor be impeached or recalled or whatever the term is? What’s the process for that?"

No. State law does not allow for that. You can thank your coward Legislators, scared of being labeled racists or their buddies losing their positions, for killing the bill that would have allowed for the ability to recall this past Legislative session.

We're behind you, Mr. Stokes. You are rocking!

Mayor is working so hard to play this as black/white thing. Kenny just shut him down. Mayor's company didn't put those leaking nasty trucks in a white neighborhood, nope, dropped them in a black neighborhood. Boom. Kenny just nailed Mayor to the wall with his own black/white thing.

The citizens of Jackson are eager for a dictatorship. Democracy has failed.

It seems very obvious the Mayor stacked the room with his supporters -- the second anyone started accusing his Lordship of being anything less than perfect the crowd flared up.

Jane is right.
Its comically divergent to read the comments from intelligent people here...then read the comments by the folks that live in the city on FB.

The voters are a dictator's dream.
They are so lazy and uneducated, they positively yearn for a dictator.

@Jane

Nope. Democracy is working as it intended here. Democracy is a mob of ignorant, uneducated, easily manipulated wastes of air that should have been Pink Clinic’ed making laws and decisions for YOU.

If this were a republic, as intended, this would be over and done

The mayor tried in vain to ignore all rules of order and hijack the meeting. When C. Antar says, “trust me,” you run for the hills and don’t look back, which is precisely what Foote, Banks, and Hartley did. “You pulled item #1; there’s nothing on the floor to talk about;” BAM; THIS MEETING IS ADJOURNED.

Stokes hung around to assess the fallout and watch the mayor do his thing — lie, obfuscate, and flail about. I’m still flabbergasted that Lee tried to say the mayor “acted” when he phoned WM and the other vendor to see if they’d honor 18 month old price quotes. I’m thinking the action contemplated by law is more along the lines of issuing a new RFP.

I took great delight in watching Antar get punched in the mouth in a room full of people with cameras rolling. But, here’s the rub. We’re stuck with this megalomaniac for 2 more years and we already know he handles defeat and humiliation by doubling down and going off the rails with more crazy shit. The office of mayor has been nothing but a vanity project for Lumumba’s ego. Put an immature narcissist with thin skin and an outsized ego in a leadership position and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

Yeah, I’m worried.

The Mayor claims that the City Attorney, Tori Martin, advised him to withdraw the proposal from Richards that he had put on the agenda for a vote yesterday due to the fact that Richards had filed suit.

Bullshit. The fact that Richards filed suit had nothing to do with and had no effect on the ability of the Council to vote on that renewed proposal. If the Council had rejected that proposal again, the City would be in the same position it is in today, no worse, with the Council having rejected the proposed contract and Richards having filed suit to try to force a contract. But if the Mayor had let the Council vote and the Council had this time voted to approve the contract with Richards, then Richards' suit would have been dismissed because it would have gotten what it wanted, i.e. the contract. Why not let the Council vote on it and take a chance that this time the Council may have approved it after all and thereby avoided the suit ?

So the Mayor's excuse for withdrawing that proposal from consideration yesterday had nothing to do with Richards having filed suit. It had to do with the fact that, if the Council had rejected the proposal again, for the second (actually 4th or 5th time now), the Mayor could not bring it up for consideration or vote again. Then he would be left with having to submit the next bid, which happens to be from Waste Mgmt.

Once again the Mayor is lying.

And coincidentally, the Mayor last week said that some of the opponents of the Richards' bid have tried to make the City Attorney look stupid. With all due respect to her, I think she's doing a good enough job of that herself. She has incorrectly advised the Mayor that he didn't have to follow the RFP process or advise him how to follow it properly. She incorrectly advised the Mayor that he had the legal right to veto the Council's rejection of the Richards' proposal. She incorrectly advised the Mayor that the RFP was a unilateral contract that Richards could try to enforce. And now she incorrectly advises the Mayor that he should withdraw the Richards proposal due to Richards having filed suit. She's batting .0000 and keeps giving horrible advice. No wonder the Council wanted to hire its own attorney, not to mention the fact that she is just the Mayor's lackey and can't/won't represent the Council's interests in this matter.

Anonymous said...

I'd be wiling to bet that the Mayor advised Richards to file this suit in order to drag this issue and the lack of garbage pickup along. Councilman Banks had proposed a 90 day emergency extension with Richards in order to give the Mayor and Council time to issue a new RFP and consider the new bids proposed, a very reasonable and sound proposal. But the Mayor doesn't want to issue a new RFP. So he said it was not feasible to have another emergency contract. But then yesterday he proposed a novel idea...hey, let's get another emergency contract with Richards. What changed, Mayor ?

Anonymous said...

If I remember correctly the first 96 gallon can is free, if you lose yours the next can must be bought. That if true is going to bring out an entire different set of issues. Someone will start a black market on 96 gallon cans.

Anonymous said...

The Mayor keeps saying he wants the lowest price. So why won't he submit the proposal for 2 day pickup with no carts which is the lowest price (and over a million dollars less than the proposal with carts) ? No one asks him this question and/or he refuses to answer it.

So this is your State Capitol, right??

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Waste Management already in place with their trucks & employees collecting trash adequately & on time when the Mayor initiated this disaster?

Then the Mayor keep pushing Richard's Disposal forward so he could eliminate Waste Management's already being in place?

Now the Mayor is saying "Let's just continue allowing Richard's Disposal to collect trash because they're already in place with trucks & manpower". Isn't that what Waste Management was already doing?

Oh & why did Kenny Stokes call that gentleman a b@stard? Very unprofessional & embarrassing.

His incompetence has finally caught up with him. His strategy was (a) huddle with mastermind Virgi et al over the weekend (b) concoct a ridiculous last minute Item #2 for frivolous purposes, (c) have mastermind Virgi spout inane nonsense about voting on the items out of order; (d) solicit Lee to suggest that the council had been wrong and hizzhonor really had “acted” in accordance with his duty by making 2 phone calls, and (e) collude with RD to be sure they have a lawsuit ready to file the moment he realizes Stokes ain’t flipping after all.

All that contains a sum total of ZERO foresight or interim plans on how the city will move forward with garbage collection so as to (1) provide dumpsters that do not require a 50 mile round trip drive and the privilege of paying a per square inch fee; so that just maybe (2) the city won’t run afoul of MDEQ in the first 5 minutes.

Instead, it’s “we can’t do it,” “we don’t have the trucks,” “we don’t have the employees.” That is classic Lumumba. In fact, I can’t think of a single time in his tenure that he’s said a thing about what CAN be done. Dude, rent the frigging trucks; pay the rental invoices so the trucks don’t get repossessed like the sewer trucks did; and reassign any number of city employees who either do nothing or are on extended vacations because the office they were assigned to had to be closed due to a leaky roof or whatever.

Just DO IT already and shut TF up, right? Wrong. We’re talking C Antar Lumumba, arguably the most incompetent, inept, dishonest person to ever hold office in this city. Take that back, strike “arguably.”

This is why the Republic of Jackson is such a good idea.
The ROJ leadership will be free of its shackles, no longer chained to the racist ideals of a democratic form of government that was created by whytes for the benefit of whytes. The racist checks and balances that are forced upon our revolutionary brother Lumumba are holding him back from truly transforming the City into the radical utopia it yearns to be. We must break free of the plantation called "Mississippi" and its slave master, the "United States of America" and call upon our community policing brothers and sisters to bring these Toms in check.

On one hand I have sympathy for the residents having to deal with this crap.

On the other hand, when someone mentioned the state helping their was unanimous rejection of that idea. They would have rather done without water than have the Governor provide it for them. Insanity.

These people are incapable of finding solutions to problems. Their inability to apply logic and reason is baffling to me. It is pure emotion.

This video cleared up any elements of hope I had for the city's future.

CAL sounds articulate and like he is trying to help…until you dig deeper and look at his track record. It would be kinda humorous if it wasn’t so tragic affecting so many people in a negative way. The legislature absolutely needs to make a way for a recall or start figuring out how to move the capitol. But, that still leaves hospitals that everyone needs within the COJ. What a hot, hot mess.

How wild is it that I’m actually pulling for Stokes! The mans wife is dying and he ain’t trying hear no bullshit. In the beginning of this conference lil drake says the garbage fees we pay on our water bills contains money to pay the crews that go around picking up debris and tires??? I’d like to see who and how much actually goes to that. Ride around Jackson and it looks like someone pays crews to distribute trash and tires instead of clean it up.

Anonymous said...

This is causing a headache for WM. They should be suing the city if any garbage company is. Most of the commercial business dumpsters are WM around here and they are steadily getting overwhelmed with massive amounts of garbage. Local news showed a non profit dumpster with overflowing plus tons of trash piled around the dumpster. This is making them have to do 10x the usual loads and will have to charge more due to this. I think the city should compensate them since the mayor sucks.

Anonymous said...

You could shorten this video by 17 minutes if you deleted each "right" spoken by Ludumba.

Anonymous said...

Never been a fan of Stokes antics but he's right this time. Those nasty trucks would have never been parked near Eastover or anywhere in North Jackson. Richards made sure that they did a decent job picking up trash in those areas but did a half ass job in other parts of town.

And a popular radio dj had the nerve to say stop complaining cause a trash company really doesn't have to be professional cause it's just trash!!!! What the hell is happening to society? I don't accept filth on any level and that's why I didn't vote for this mayor

Anonymous said...

The mayor’s promise to address the council need to use the legal process by having a conditional termination in the emergency contract is a smoke screen. What he will have is a conditional termination upon conclusion of all lawsuits, including the newly concocted Richards lawsuit, which will drag on for years, getting Richards what’s it wants and at a higher emergency contract rate. The mayor thinks he is so clever, but this is junior high student government crap. These are serious issues and our mayor is just trying to play games.

Anonymous said...

You can hate it all you want but in the end the mayor will prevail! Let the garbage pile up. On any other issue or day most would say stokes is an idiot , but since the main goal here is to see the Mayor fail, everybody is okay with him! What a bunch of hypocrites!

The lawsuit Richard's filed is a type of appeal that has to be filed within 10 days of the government action you're appealing. The council voted down the contract on April 1. The mayor inexplicably called another council meeting just to vote on the contract again, even though nothing had changed, on April 10. Then when he found out Richard's was ready to file suit on April 10, he withdrew the contract from the agenda. Kinda makes you wonder if the purpose of the 4/10 meeting was just in case Richard's wasn't ready to file its appeal/suit by the 4/11 deadline.

Just read on WLBT site;

"Just days after the previous contract ended, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is pushing for another one-year emergency deal with Richard’s Disposal.

He will be asking the Jackson City Council to vote on the proposal at a special called meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting is slated to come nearly two weeks after city’s previous emergency contract with Richard’s ended, leaving customers without trash pickup.

Lumumba also is asking the council to extend his state of emergency over the lack of solid waste collections.

Terms of the contract are the same as the one that expired March 31, city officials say.

Council President Ashby Foote says he won’t support the measure but would back a 90-day emergency contract."

Just can't take NO as an answer. Guess he likes his knee caps quite a bit.

I'm amazed at this City of Jackson "Mayor", has to be so self serving, so Stupid to think very many people believe anything he says.(I'm sure there are some though) If he's an Attorney he must have went to the same Law School as Ms Martin(say something, repeat it and it becomes Law) Residents of Jackson-wheather black or white deserve water service, sewer service, street maintenance, Law & Order, & a Court System that actually works. These people have been paying Taxes expecting Municipal Services along the way && haven't received a darn thing the last 6 Years. A Police Dept that has diminished to nothing(token Chief), a Court System that isn't supposed to cause any inconvenience to the Defendant, Streets a dang buggy can't drive thru with a good horse,, nor wash a vehicle., a sewer system that's running raw down the Pearl River, a Water System you can't expect to produce water when you need to bathe nor drinkable, not flush a commode with. The Mayor seems all concerned with charging for Garbage pickup but didn't give a flip about You having running Water, nor enough Operators at the Water Plant, nor anyone to oversee everyday maintenance of water & sewer lines but- he's all of a sudden wanting another Emergency Contract for RDS?? There has to be a way ro remove him from Office-

1. There’s no new low Antar that should shock anyone. Having a “press conference” that was essentially a political rally for the sole purpose to have the race card played…another new low for Antar.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
