The Oxford Police Department issued the following statement.
The Oxford Police Department has formally charged Seth Rokitka (24 of Collierville, TN) with one count of Manslaughter, one count of Aggravated DUI, one count of Duties of Driver Involved in Accident Resulting in Death, and one count of Duties of Driver Involved in Accident Resulting in Personal Injury. He was taken before a Justice Court Judge for his initial appearance and given a bond of $1,000,000.
We want to take this time to dispel rumors about the incident:
-Seth Rokitka and Tristan Holland had no prior interactions with either victim prior to striking them with his truck.
-There were no fights or altercations and their paths did not cross. They were at separate establishments the entire night.
-Rokitka and Holland did not render aid or call 911 even though they knew what they had just done.

Stupid ass behavior. Thinking dulled by alcohol.

So why did this guy mow them down with his truck?
A 24-year old hanging with an 18-year old. Strange.

That young boy is in some DEEP DOO DOO now!!!!
What about vehicular homicide?
So where in the world did the rumors begin that they had beaten up on the victims before mowing them
over?
Completely beyond my ability to comprehend. Every person involved, from the victims to the perpetrators, has been destroyed. Prayers to these families left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. It’s so gut-wrenching.
“Oxford Police say Rokitka and Holland had no prior interactions with the victims before the crash.” What about all of the previous comments about a fight in a bar and someone hitting on someone else’s girlfriend and the victims getting beat up, etc.? Lots of speculation and rumors that are simply not true. It’s a terrible tragedy any way you look at it and I hate it for the parents and family members of the victims.
"So where in the world did the rumors begin that they had beaten up on the victims before mowing them

Well 5:23, since recorded history rumors have always spread
after such tragedies.
Only difference is ... in today's world rumors
are spread instantaneously.
So this means that Rokitka wasn't there to turn in his thesis for a PhD in astrophysics?
A lot of people hurt on all sides of this tragedy. Obviously the fielder family have lost the most but everyone lost in this.
Only thing Seth is upset about is that they didn’t let him wear his hat backwards for his mugshot.

Shove that bleeding heart nonsense in your ear. The murderers are grown men and totally responsible for their actions.
In 72 years, I have seen serious drinking ruin lives. This seems to be a textbook example of a night of drinking by one or more people quickly destroying four lives. Having written that, I would not be able to show sympathy for those two young men. We simply must be responsble for whatever we do, and they are ultimately responsible for what happened.
KF: pull up Seth’s previous arrest records.
This is such a sad situation with a Life Lost, another 1 Seriously injured Seems like too much alcohol involved at least from a Driver and maybe a Passenger daring, possibly who knows. Such a terrible Life Choice for the Drive, such a Bad Buddy to ride with. I can't have any symphony for those in the Vehicle-
What happened to those 4 boys drinking from MRA a few years ago when one was killed?
Never saw anything about the outcome. Did the driver spend time in jail?
Rumors? So, the police comment must be true since it was told to them by one of the boys charged in this crime.
And since when are crimes committed behind city hall?
How did the collierville boys get back up to Memphis once the truck was wrecked and left in Marshall county?
What have we wrought as a society when a 24 year old man can, unprovoked, run down two defenseless college students celebrating a football game? Countless lives destroyed forever by this craven act. I am an Ole Miss Deke from the "Animal House" 60"s and I saw exactly one fight in the frat house. It was more of a wrestling match than a fight and it was over a "stolen" fifth of Black Jack. My how times have changed.
They need to do a forensic on his cell phone. He probably had his head buried in it texting, taking a pic of someone, himself or of a body part. Drinking, Driving and cell phones dont mix.
10:30 am, maybe I am assuming too much. But, from the facts put out by OPD, it's possible this was an accident, not running down people. Now, I understand that negligence might have played a part here. And I do understand that they didn't stop when they realized what had happened. I also recognize that they COULD have run them down. But, I don't think the facts make that a certainty.
this was in a small parking lot. it's not like it happened on a street where vehicles would be traveling at speed.
people get hit by cars often in much bigger parking lots with the most serious of injuries being broken bones. it's hard to fathom the situation where a truck hit 2 individuals with enough force to kill one and severely injure another without some kind of intent

Exactly what Mississippi statute creates the offense of "vehicular homicide?"
@1:56, if it were an accident, it likely was alcohol related, and they fled the scene. Prison is their next stop.
@10:30 My father was also a Deke in the early to mid 60's. Y'all probably crossed paths...
Not a soul posting on this page, including me, has one whit of factual information from which to form a solid opinion. Unless the girl who is hospitalized has spoken with detectives, where's any actual proof that this group of four had not previously had negative interactions that evening? "Police said" is not evidence. If that's a fact, upon whose statements is it based?
Without the two parties never coming into contact with one another throughout the night, this is looking more like an accident. Most likely a drunk driving accident but an accident none the less. Could the kids not have stepped out in front of his vehicle. He hit them and then fled because he was drunk, having no idea he killed someone.
