The Ridgeland Police Department issued the following statement.
Ridgeland PD Communications received numerous calls on residents in the Northbrook II apartment complex hearing multiple gunshots. Officers responded and while searching the area of 125 Pine Knoll Drive, located
a victim who had been shot. They administered first aid but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim sustained at least 2 gunshot wounds (one to the torso and one to the legs). No eyewitnesses to the shooting but there were reports and
description of a subject running from the area where the victim was located. The victim had no identification on him but while investigators and officers were still on the scene, a family approached an officer inquiring about the victim. The victim was
identified as this family’s son, 15 years of age by the name of Marcus Hemmingway of 110 Pine Knoll Drive. Marcus is a student at Olde Towne Middle School. This is still an active investigation and investigators are searching for a suspect(s) and motive.
As stated, this is an active investigation and we will update information as it becomes available to release.
Update: Through the work of investigators and officers on scene, Ridgeland PD was able to obtain information from citizens in the area who provided leads to a possible suspect. A 16 year old resident of Ridgeland was located and taken in for questioning. During an interview with this suspect, information was obtained to charge him with Murder. The name of the arrested suspect is being withheld pending communications with the Madison County District Attorney’s Office and Madison County Youth Courts for prosecution.

That's an apartment complex just across the line from Jackistan. The closer to Jackistan, the higher the crime. It's a gift from Chowke.
When was the last murder in the city of Madison?
This is RIGHT behind Amerigo. I lived there when I first moved to Jackson 30 years ago. It’s a ghetto now.
I liked that the police chief from Ridgeland was on WLBT and said we will not put up with that crap out here.
May not have been real nice, but I’m sure they didn’t want to work a murder today.
15 year old in middle school… Great job parent(s)
The ridgeland police chief isn't gonna put up with that crap?
Well if he has an answer and a solution, he needs to let the jpd know. If the answer is "don't be a larger city," or "don't have apartments," that's not very helpful.
Still haven't caught the Walkons shooter that I've heard. This one was likely an easy catch. And where has our great mayor been hiding. Waiting for his plump retirement?
Dont know, but sure looks like the gang culture that does exist in Jackson, despite the Mayor's and his lapdog Chief's denial, is spreading across County Line.
Not that gangs worry about city, county, or for that matter, any lines. There are gangs in Madison County aplenty. Whether those in Ridgeland are associate with the Jackson crowd, or the Canton crowd. Or whether they are one of the same or rivals - who gives a shit.
At least in Ridgeland Mayor Gene has a popo that will take control, investigate, and arrest. And when sent to court, they don't get off with a blessing.
Let's see here, what's the difference? Within hours, the Ridgeland folkds have identified a suspect, interrogated him, and made an arrest. BUt Chockwe's folkds don't want to admit to having a problem, even though some of their officers are trying to do their sworn job despite their handicaps placed on them by the 'community minded' boss.
All of those apartments built 30 years ago in Ridgeland are now occupied by citizens who have fled Jackson. The crime in Ridgeland will begin to look like the crime in Jackson. I don’t agree with everything Mary Hawkins has done in Madison, but keeping apartments out was the best thing she ever did. The Ridgeland chief is a great guy and runs a fine department, but Jackson PD and Hinds SO were once great departments. Proof that policing alone cannot stop what’s coming.
It's a real bitch being a city that is contiguous to Jackistan and has apartments.
@7:01 PM - real classy blaming this on the victim, Mr. Numbskull. Did you know that he is on the football team?
9:59, the racial impact of Mary's anti apartment regulations is duly noted by the courts. The eventual disparate impact ruling will be a shock, but she's long made her money off it.
How does a 16 year old kid get a gun? Hopefully they are able to track down how it was obtained and bring some charges on that person as well if possible.
Oh my goodness, even the thugs are moving to avoid Jacktown violence!
Uhhh 10:41...What does him being on the football team have to do with it? The animal who executed the 6yo he kidnapped from the Kroger parking lot a few years ago was quarterback of the Ridgeland High football team. So what?
Ridgeland tried to get rid of those apartments 10 years ago by retroactively zoning them out. Obviously the courts threw that out as an illegal taking. But it was a good idea, if a desperate one.
I knew 30 years ago when Billy Vandevender and Gary Hughes developed those apartments that they were going to ruin that area. It happened faster than I thought. And now Canton has a whole new crop of apartment mushrooms for the new Amazonian employees. Madison and Gluckstadt are squeezed between two growing islands of cultural decay. Soon people will realize that position is untenable and the whole place will collapse.
@11:23 PM - very likely stolen from an IRRESPONSIBLE gun owner who left his gun in his UNLOCKED vehicle. It happens daily.
Pine Knoll Drive is nowhere near Amerigos. It's just a few blocks north of Northpark Mall. Amerigos is miles to the east on Old Canton.
@824. More likely stolen from a F150 or F250 in Jackson. Been a serious rash lately . I watched a video of thieves at Highland Village and off of Lakeland Drive steal trucks in less than 1 minute. Why hasn’t that been on news.I won’t drive into Jackson unless someone stays in my truck if I’m out and yes we are armed.
9:38am, 125 Pine Knoll Dr is a short walk away from the back of Amerigo, probably about 500 to 600 yards.
@9:38 AM Fail! It is right behind Amerigos, knucklehead.
This is near the home of where Mayor Gene and Jane McGee lived before they moved to Wendover and purchased the developer’s personal home. Moved on out and up.
That’s 1.2 laps from Amerigo’s around a standard high school track.
Is that the apartment complex where the initial crop of visitors from across the southern border (30 years ago) use to grill goats, under the trees, on a Saturday? I shit you not.
9:38 here. Sorry, I had Pine Knoll confused with Pinehill, which is off Wheatley, north of the mall. The scent of pine does that.
Sad, a life that never had a chance and a life ruined, others with great pain for the rest of their lives. No rational way to look at this stuff.
5:42 - How do you conclude that he 'never had a chance'. I believe your assumption to be that society failed him by not giving him a chance. His immediate, personal environment and personal choices guided his behavior - nothing else.
