The Madison Police Department issued the following statement.
On November 1, 2021 a Madison Police Department Investigator notified dispatch of an accidental discharge of a firearm at a sporting event being held at Rosa Scott School located at 200 Crawford Street in the City of Madison, Ms.
During the event, a spectator advised that she was reaching into her purse as her phone was ringing and it was at this point that the firearm discharged. The investigator was able to secure the purse and firearm and determine that no citizens were injured. School administrators were on scene and suspended the remainder of the game as investigators escorted the female to a secure office inside the school. All spectators peacefully exited the gymnasium as investigators continued interviewing witnesses and notifying appropriate personnel.
While it was determined that Kashaun Alexsis McRunells of Edwards, Ms possessed an Enhanced Concealed Carry Permit that allowed her to possess the firearm at the event, she was charged with discharging the firearm within the City Limits of Madison, Ms in violation of the City of Madison Ordinance. McRunnells was given a $500.00 bond and she was provided a court date to appear before Madison Municipal Court regarding the incident.
The investigation is ongoing at this point.

"it was determined that Kashaun Alexsis McRunells of Edwards, Ms possessed an Enhanced Concealed Carry Permit that allowed her to possess the firearm at the event". Wonder if she actually attended the class or had it given to her?
Whoever trained her ...that gave way for her to have this permit should be beaten with a stick. As should she ! Gun loaded....bullet in chamber...safety off. What a fugging moron !
Dang!!
First, I'm glad everyone is ok.
At least she had her enhanced carry, but I don't think she paid attention during class!
Inside a gymnasium!!
I'll bet people's ears are still ringing!!!
Glad no one was hurt.
Newspaper article from Alec Baldwin coming Sunday.
Accidental discharge is no crime unless you find yourself before that nutcase Reeves. He will probably forever ban her from the local Sally Beauty Supply.
Madison needs a mayor who will challenge this concealed carry law at the highest court in the state. Somethin's gotta be did about this here.
Accidental? No. Negligent? Yes.
My granddaughter and a friend were at the game. They left terrified at what had happened. This woman should go to jail.
No such thing as an accidental discharge. It’s a negligent discharge as we say in the Army.
sounds like her gun was not in a holster either. "with great power, comes great responsibility." this women was not being responsible and should be on her knees every day thanking and praying to whatever god she serves that somebody isn't getting buried this week from her bullet.
Too many people are ready and willing to give up their constitutional rights, especially after an incident like this or a school shooting. While the right to bear arms comes with obvious individual responsibilities (that includes you Alec Baldwin), I caution people on the knee jerk reactionary responses to something like this. Do not be so quick to voluntarily give up your God-given rights because of one idiot.
Has anyone heard what kind of gun it was? Glad she left her AK47 at home.
Accidental discharge is no crime unless...
...it hits someone. Then you might be charged with negligent/involuntary homicide, wanton disregard for human life, third degree assault or some such.
"...should go to jail". For what crime?
Stupid, negligent, irresponsible, lazy, thoughtless and clumsy are not (currently) crimes.
PS: Nobody 'holsters' a concealed weapon in a purse, 11:35. What would be the point?
PS: You said, "Gun loaded....bullet in chamber...safety off" - There should always be a round in the chamber with enhanced carry. A concealed weapon that is not loaded is useless. There IS no safety on most expensive, small-carry pistols other than a built in feature (they claim) with the trigger - and those, they claim, won't 'go off' even if dropped on concrete. If this was some sort of older pistol and she had it chambered and hammer-cocked, then, yes, she shit-canned the instruction she received in class.
PS: Don't blame it on the class or the instructor.
Since folks have mentioned Alec Baldwin twice I will add my two cents. I believe Alec Baldwin KNEW he had a live round in the gun and killed this women to save money. Witness accounts talk about how he within seconds took to his phone and began screaming at the armor sup about giving him a live gun. He did this in front of them all. THAT is a red flag. He should have been distraught to the point of no thought. Dude has been proven violent and unstable....and they are saying the film was over budget due to the women shot.
@12:41 Quite possibly the dumbest comment ever posted on JJ - including some of the anti-vax tripe...
Better pinch that tinfoil a little tighter 12:14, I think I see a little of your forehead exposed to the 5G radiation!!
SO many experts!!
Looks like she also received a fraudulent PPP loan

Did you get some cannabis edibles in your Halloween candy?
What is it with the spelling of woman on here? That is like second grade spelling level. Put down the keyboard and pick up an elementary primer.
Just because Baldwin is a dick (they often go off half-cocked), I don't assume him to be a murderer.
@ 11:21 AM
Maybe they should file a lawsuit for the mental trauma from being "terrified."
Life is terrifying. Suck it up, buttercup.
That being said, this person was an idiot and should have her permit revoked.
November 2, 2021 at 11:57 AM; this is 11:35; the point of holstering a gun, even in a purse, is so shit like this doesn't happen. they make holsters specifically for use in a purse. they even make purses that have a pocket for just the gun. i carry everywhere i go, loaded, round in the chamber, and my gun doesn't even have a safety, other than the little blade on the trigger itself. but i keep mine in a holster, on my belt, and not loose in a pocket, where it might go off while i'm fishing for my phone.
Get an OWB Index Finger Release holster and clip it to pocket inside purse.keeps it InPosition but trigger protected from purse junk. Just tumbling around in there is dangerous, imagine being in a crowded ply...oh I guess we know that now huh.
OWB Index Finger Release
No matter what anyone says it’s never a good ideal to leave one in the pipe. Some pistols have the safety on the trigger. Glock comes to mind. Stupid designs cause stupid mistakes..
2:43 that opinion is disagreed with by practically every expert on self defense in the known universe, as it would be virtually impossible to get a semiautomatic handgun into battery if you happened to wind up wrestling with an attacker...the idea is to have it ready to fire at the instant you need it. To do so does require some planning and a little practice, which this lady apparently wasn't up to speed on. Glock makes a good pistol, and they (and the other pistols with no manual safety that are so popular today) are perfectly safe in the right, well trained hands, but in the wrong hands they are well known for incidents just like this. I wouldn't mind seeing some repercussions to her possessing a permit for this, at minimum some required training to prevent future any future ND's.
2:31 - A holster is neither intended to be nor does one work as a gun safety feature. Is yours a Dooney & Bourke?
What does ecw training say about purse carry? Seems like a terrible option, given that purses are easily stolen, and the firearm can't be used quickly if needed.
@6:02 PM Ever hear of a retention holster? BTW, I know Peter Dooney.
I am a lawyer so I understand constitutional rights. My office is in Jackson, so I understand crime. While it may be legal, people with guns in school gyms who are not law enforcement, bother me. I am a gun owner. Guns at my house. A gun at my office. Never, have I taken a gun inside a school. What if that gun had hit a child??? People, because you can, doesnt mean you should. Thank God no child was hurt or killed.
@ 1:04…please add 11:57 to the list as well!
Thanks,
Methinks 8:30 understands nothing whatsoever. He just proved he does not know the Constitution, does not know guns, and does not know English. A great fit for this forum.
Just be glad she wasn't at a Mississippi State game.
Saying not to bring a firearm (legally) to a basketball game just creates another GFZ (gun free zone). You are be assured that there were many other people legally carrying at that game, but responsibly.
November 2, 2021 at 6:02 PM; this is 2:31. i do not own a dooney & bourke. i am a man, a real man, not some latte drinking soy-boy with tight pants, or mentally man that thinks they are a woman. i do not carry purse, or a murse, or a man-bag, or a fanny-pack. i use a desantis holster to carry my gun. and it does work as intended as a gun safety feature. the entire trigger guard is completely covered so the trigger can't be pulled or even touched while in the holster. not sure when you graduated from the alec baldwin school for liberal gun safety, but that alone makes it a gun safety feature. and that alone will prevent my gun from ever firing a round.
you either already know this information, but choose to insult from arrogance, or you really don't know this information and choose to insult out of ignorance.
I never take a gun to any High School athletic event. But, I always carry a pharmacy cough-medicine bottle of either Jack or Jim Beam. If I tip it just after a score at the other end, nobody sees me.
I GOrawntee you 60% of the wimmins in the stands do the same.
Well the local news stations sports dept sure missed a great headlines " And in the night cap, the Rosa Scott boys dodged a bullet with a big win tonight"
@12:14 sounds kinda like my neighbor (Justin Trudeau secretly allowed Chinese troops on Canadian soil in order to attack the U.S. after the presidential election.)
9:44 : Interesting. Have you reported your neighbor for this clear infraction on my 1st amending rights ?
