Governor Tate Reeves is briefing the media on the pandemic. The presser is live-streamed below.
* More military docs, nurses, and respiratory therapists arrived to deploy to 61 hospitals.
* Governor pushed for eliminating the state income tax. He thanked State Senator Josh Harkins and State Representative Trey Lamar for holding hearings on the subject this week.
* WLBT's Courtney Ann Jackson asked the Governor if he had visited the hospitals. Governor Reeves said he had not visited any hospitals nor had any plans to do so. He said nurses and doctors shouldn't have to waste their time "showing politicians around."
* Dr. Byers said Mississippi suffered its largest day of Covid-19 deaths yesterday. MSDH reported 119 deaths. However, the statistic is somewhat misleading. 70 of those deaths took place between June 25 and August 20. 40 deaths occurred between August 19 and August 23. Governor Reeves said the deaths didn't occur on one day but over several weeks.

The progressive whiners haven't laid a glove on him.
Hey that’s pretty cool, Mississippi leaders will tell you when the MDHS skews data to create fear
Wow, that guy doesn’t deserve hit title. He has no real answers for anything. Glad I didn’t waste a vote on him
Copy and Paste King. Fish.
Hawaii Governor asking tourists to stay away from the Islands. Cases and hospitalizations are surging. Honululu Mayor imposing a lockdown. Hawaii is about as liberal as you get and have some of the most covid restrictions in the country. Ain't just conservative states lefties. And no I can't stand Tater Reeves.
DoD Resouces are not going to 61 hospitals. Perhaps, 2-4 maximum.
People are never satisfied with whomever is in office...I happen to think Reeves is doing a pretty damn good job.
Wonder if Tater is gonna step in at UMMC and stop this tyranny going on with them mandating vaccines to keep your job ! N95's suppose to be full proof ! Imagine a hospital like that half staffed and imagine the strain with all those unemployment claims ! Imagine the forth coming lawsuits !
Bless his heart.
He's doing what he can with what he has.
Which isn't very much.
Also I see that tax cuts continue to be worshiped like a fix any problem fetish in certain circles. How does Tater think that gubmint hep comin to hep Mississippi in her time of need will be paid for? Other peoples money?
“Kingfish has struck me as someone who could be a bulldog investigative reporter. He has fought for public records at times; and he has dug through court documents to figure out corrupt practices of (some) people. But then I see his vicious personal attacks and the kinds of anonymous posts he allows (which as a website "publisher" he is at least ethically responsible for), and I realize that he is his own worst enemy and is squandering his potential. He is not a journalist or a reporter; he is a gadfly who puts some important documents on his site, and then allows the most vicious and racist threads around them.”
King GadFly, do you see the difference between a journalist and a blogger? A journalist reports the facts—both objectively and subjectively.
@12:34pm - Bye Nurse Felicia. If you’re to stupid to understand the importance of this vaccine during a pandemic (or any approved vaccine for that matter), then shouldn’t be working in a hospital anyway. Go be a stay at home mom and open an Etsy store or something.
They don't have time to show politicians around, but they have plenty of time for tiktoc videos and kneeling photo ops.
12:34 how are they going to collect unemployment after not following the employers rules?
Mormonism is a religion.
So is Moronism.
Adding on to 12:07's effort to bring some data and reality to this discussion: Cases in Japan are now up 42,096% since a Forbes article in June 20 said the high rate of mask wearing (97%) there was responsible for preventing COVID spread.
12:58 doesn't seem to understand science but hey, as long as you are a Fauci sheep things will get worse. Natural immunity. Look it up Karen. The vaxxed are getting sick !! Damn. The truth is in your face and you still wanna be led over the cliff.
@12:48 KF is a fair moderator. I especially thank him for censoring some of my comments which I immediately regretted and wished to withdraw after depressing "Publish Your Comment".
Feds bailing out MS yet again.
Now….where is Kim Wade to scream about how white people in MS ruined the state?
Oh yeah….he is meeting one of the 1000 federal contract health care workers who will be intimating him so he can scream more inane bullshit over the air to appease this blog owner
Good thing Joe Rogan doesn’t have covid
12:34 - aint going to be any unemployment claims coming in, at least none that will get approved, for folks who decide to quit work, or get fired, for refusing to get a vaccine.
As long as the requirements are universal, and include appropriate medical/religious exceptions, there is no violation of any law for such a requirement and the employee left for either their own chosing or insubordination (refusing to follow a reasonable requirement).
UMMC may be the first local employer to be making this a requirement, but they damn sure won't be the last. The avalanche started yesterday and will become rampart by weeks end. And if I were going to be a patient in a medical facility, I damn sure would want those providing me treatments to be unlikely to be infecting me while being treated.
Covid-19 was the marketing scheme, and the vaccines are the products. Instead of a two minute commercial on TV, we've had 18 months of a horror movie.

It's now evident that the vaccines fail to effectively protect from transmission or infection of the virus. So a vaccinated doctor can infect a vaccinated or unvaccinated patient, therefore rendering null the reason for the vaccine mandate to begin with. Vaccinated people are testing positive all over the place. It's even been suggested the vaccines are fueling the variants.
Israel and Hawaii have very high vaccination rates and rising spikes in hospitalizations and infections right now. How is that possible if the vaccine works as it should?
It's madness to enforce vaccinations when there is still so little we know about what these will do in the long term and their efficacy over time, and these hospitals and corporations should be ashamed of themselves. Honestly I'm disgusted that any Mississippian would push for mandated vaccines with no track record other than the last 6 months. It should be a personal choice to make, weighing the pros and cons with your own personal medical history.
If an employer requires its employees to be vaccinated, adverse reactions to the vaccines are considered “work-related” by OSHA. Employers who require COVID-19 vaccines must notify OSHA within 24 hours of an employee’s inpatient hospitalization (or within eight hours of an employee’s death) resulting from an adverse reaction.
The vaccinated are turning out to be the super spreaders. -CDC 7/28/21
The unvaccinated are turning out to be the stupid spreaders. - Rude Pundent 8/25/2021
1:24 THE VAXXED are spreading Covid 19 at a higher rate than those who have already had the crap !!! Good Lord almighty .
being a super spreader isn’t my problem anymore….i could care less if you get it from me and end up in the garage of umc.
@1:15PM
Go back and reread my post. If, at any time, you want to reply to the ACTUAL COMMENTARY then feel free.
Until then, go stand in the corner.
@1:53PM
Kingfish, I know this is you trying to deflect from the fact that none of the politicians on those ads support you.
Moncef Slaoui, Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) 30 years, owns millions in GSK stock. So-called "Pfizer" vaccine is actually Janssen which is 55% GSK/ 45% Pfizer.
Moncef Slaoui, Moderna Board of Directors with millions in stock options.
Slaoui also CEO Galvani Bioelectronics which is 55% GSK/ 45% Verily Life Sciences, subsidiary Alphabet which is also Google's parent company. Moncef Slaoui head of Operation Warp Speed. Nothing to see here. Move along now.
So if COVID deaths weren’t counted when they occurred, because they weren’t yet reported, and they are dismissed now, because they happened on an earlier date, then I guess they don’t count at all. That seems to be the logic of some.
@2:19 - Amen.
Does the governor realize how much money we receive from the federal government as a result of taxes paid by non-Mississippians? We are extremely dependent on "the kindness of strangers" to make ends meet each year.
Does the governor realize state income taxes amount to huge part of the state's revenues? Eliminating this must be made up somewhere. No "trickle down" economics will work.
Finally, with the governor boasting about the $1 billion in the Mississippi Treasury, how much is unspent money received from the CARES Act?
I find that I increasingly understand and respect folks that live on a mountain top and avoid human interaction.
I am not tough enough.
But it makes a lot more sense lately.
Even the MSM is starting to see the problems...Hope we do not see the progressively amplifying feedback loop between variants and boosters, but they are determined to vax everybody.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/ultra-vaccinated-israels-debacle-is-a-dire-warning-to-america?ref=home
This debate is going nowhere fast. The lines are drawn. If doctors cannot change minds, bloggers certainly cannot. I followed my doctors’ advice to get vaccinated, as did my family. Others are free to make a different choice. End of debate.
@4:13pm - All the doctors are in on this too!!!!!11
Everyone of these morons who oppose vaccinations would be like that conservative supertalk Valentine guy in Nashville - who suffered and died regretting he made a foolish decision based on made-up political conspiracy theories.
1:11 pm You sound like you may have overdone it a bit with the horse medicine. Slow down and don’t take quite so much each time.
This is why I support Medicare for 60 year olds, Tater is stealing from us old folks with this one.
I hope Shad White gets an investigation going ASAP to find out who used Covid funds to distribute laptops at the intersection of Highways 468 and 475. The Ivermectin AntiVaxxer Wing has gone online, furiously pounding the keys with lies and GRU propaganda points. Amazing.
1:24; You have no damned idea what you're talking about. Nowhere in unemployment Insurance qualification law do you find the word 'reasonable'. Your notion of reasonable, or, for that matter, mine, has zero bearing on the investigation, hearing and outcome of a claim. Hearing officers with zero creditable hours in law will be making these rulings. Rest assured they will be schooled in how to rule within the next five days.
PS: I realize you are a member of SHRM and attended at least forty seminars, at somebody else's expense, in the past 20 years. But, again, the shit you don't know has the first name of Jack.
I'm curious as to what people would think about mandating that businesses that cater to the public* (see example list, below) must post prominent notices on each entrance stating the vaccination status of the personnel (not individually, "Bob isn't but Susan is...," but in the format, "X employees, Y vaccinated") as well as the testing/vaccination requirements of the business of all personnel, i.e., "we require all personnel to be vaccinated," "we require servers but not cooks," "we require public-facing staff but not back office," doctors and nurses but not maintenance and janitorial, salaried but not hourly, etc.
That way, no matter what a potential patron's personal thoughts might be, they exercise "freedom of choice" and make a fully-informed choice. For business owners who would claim it would hurt their business, what would a closure order or another shutdown do to it? For those owners who claim to hold very strong beliefs one way or the other, it'd be time to literally put your money where your mouth is.
There could even be a third option to allow businesses to post VERY prominent notices that state plainly, "We ain't tellin' - your are forewarned." The only penalties would be for failure to post anything (closure until posted) or draconian penalties for posting exaggerated numbers/requirements (felony, with large fines and mandatory jail time) and that would include things like claiming "all/some employees vaccinated" but not really enforcing it.
*As examples, all retail stores, restaurants and bars, hair salons and barbers, gyms, doctors, dentists, physical therapists, etc., - any business where a customer and personnel normally would (or even likely could as a regular course of business) come into close physical proximity.
Former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb is on Pfizer’s board of Directors- It’s all about the money
"Former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb..."
That would be former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb, MD, with his MD and residency at Mount Sinai. Yeah, it's hard to imagine why any pharm company would want someone like that on its board. Is money - profit - involved for, ahem, public companies? Yes. Would you have preferred the taxpayers pay to endure the enormous expense of setting up some sort of government-sponsored entity or to have existing companies simply make a fair profit for their efforts? If you expect to be paid for your labor, why would you begrudge another to be paid for their labor?
The more I read from those determined to find fault with any and every aspect of effectively combating this virus and COVID, the more I notice just how easily each and every irrational, imagined, or even totally fictitious "point" is readily-countered with at-hand facts, some of which are med school-level topics. Even the obscure nonsense and gibberish has been widely repeated on social media and debunking is readily-available to anyone who chooses to do even cursory research. To those with daily updates from numerous medical and science informational sources, from NEJM to medical specialty journals, we've seen all or most of it addressed and debunked already.
Where the vaccine is NOT mandated:
CDC
FDA
The White House
@10:37 You are exactly right.
Politically and culturally I'm the most reactionary person I know. I'm not smart but I am not an idiot. I do not demonize people based on their income level, education, political or religious beliefs. Or, on whose board of directors they sit.
What lots of folks don't understand is that once you have enough, once your needs, and reasonable future needs are "taken care of," that it's all surplusage. If you complain about "big pharma," and you collect PERS, you're talking with your mouth full. Where do you think PERS invests?
It ain't a professional wrestling match. There's no hero and no heel. There's a health crisis. When I need a professional, I go to a professional, I do not imagine I know more than they. This business of portable hospitals and no ER services b/c of COVID scares me. Not me personally, but the little girl next door who spills her bike. Car crashes. House fires.
But, in our country, everybody gets to decide for themselves. Even the idiots, smokers, no seat belters, motorcyclists, dopeheads, morbidly obese, excess drinkers, whatever selfish BS you got. Even the folks who talk about nanochips in vaccine and eschew common sense precautions in the face of a world-wide crisis.
A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool beareth himself insolently, and is confident.
@3:11, Because we waste tax dollars building a barrier at the intersection of 55 and 20, that’s been fine for 40 years, for no discernible reason
I am pro-choice/ I got the vax.
But if employers demand proof of vax, can we demand the same of folks on government assistance programs?
Seems odd to require it for me, then take my tax dollars and give them to welfare recipients with no similar mandate to prevent them from further draining the system with 'avoidable' medical bills that will remain unpaid.
@8:58am - That’s actually a great idea that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere yet. Sure, I hope that is implemented.
8/19/21 British Medical Journal, "COVID-19 Fully Vaccinated People Carry As Much Viral Load As Unvaccinated People, Data Indicate"...."We know now that vaccination will not stop infection and transmission".
I am not a Tater a tot didn’t vote for him. However I’m not sure what else he could have done. He certainly can’t make you be vaccinated. He can say you should and he has. He can’t make you wear a mask. What are they going to do arrest you? Businesses can require a mask and some have. My only issue with Tate is he’s still clinging to the Trump train. I voted for the AO as I felt the other choice was bad. The person responsible for Trump losing is ta da Trump. Had he shown one iota of class and dignity, he could have won
