Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens issued the following statement.
Hinds County District Attorney, Jody E. Owens, II announces Jamonta Jackson aka Outwest Tay was sentenced to 35years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections by Judge Peterson for second degree murder and aggravated assault.
On January 2,2017 Jamonta Jackson lured Horatio Hunt, Sr., and Horatio Hunt, Jr. to an area of Oak Park Drive and Center Street, shot them both and robbed Horatio Hunt, Sr. of cash. The Jackson Police Department and the United States Marshall service tracked Jackson to a hotel in Hattiesburg a few days after the shooting. The Jackson Police Department took custody of Jackson on January 5, 2017 where he was charged with capital murder.
A Hinds County grand jury returned a two count indictment for first degree murder and aggravated assault. Today, family members of Horatio Hunt, Sr. and Horatio Hunt, Jr. addressed Hinds County Circuit Judge E. Faye Peterson prior to his sentencing. District Attorney Owens says “Our community continues to suffer from too much senseless violence. I hope Horatio Hunt’s family can have some peace knowing justice was served and Mr. Jackson will be behind prison walls for the next 35 years.”
Kingfish note: He killed the father and shot the son in the head. Jackson pleaded guilty today.

Thank goodness there was no blessing!
Jackson Mississippi is Chicago South. Sad. We should all want to see Jackson thrive and not die, as the health and safety of Jackson affects all of the surrounding cities.
35 years for the cold-blooded murder of two people. Regardless of the plea deal, that seems light to me. But, what do I know?
Why has this taken over four years to resolve??????
Seens like a light sentence for what appears to be premeditated, first degree murder during the accomplishment of a robery.
So basically she will be walking the streets in five years?
No that’s wrong. HE will be walking the streets again in five years.
Good ole “Angry Management”
Better than the alternative. The alternative, for you slow-learners, would be a Hinds County jury of HIS peers. Think about it.
Hopefully somebody will ice-pick his ass at Parchman. If not, then the day after he's released. Justice is served. Now. And. Later.
2nd degree murder is served day for day. He will be walking the street in 35 years
He must receive some of that "angry" management.
It's M-a-r-s-h-a-l, not M-a-r-s-h-a-l-l.
This is death penalty stuff but since we don't know what kind of evidence the state could produce at trial, a plea bargain might have been the best outcome. It's better than letting him walk.
