C19 Update: Improvement Continues

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 145 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 9 new deaths. The total number of cases is 90,018. The virus has caused 2,706 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 40% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 78,791 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website. The Rt factor is 0.91.

Improvement in the big chart continues. Hospitalizations, ICUs, and vents are all much better than they were a month ago.

Kingfish note: Yes, the numbers are always better on Monday.  They will be worse by Wednesday.  However, the big chart is much, much better than it was over a month ago.

Don't be a TATER SNOT maskhole....I'm thinking TAR n FEATHERS and TORCHES n PITCHFORKS!!!

7:03. without masks, the chart would have continued its upward journey and we wouldn't have any space in our hospitals for baby delivery, stroke, heart attack....

If masks are so effective, why haven't we heard anyone in the last 100 years demand masks to prevent the transmission of the regular flu?

You should could have worn one and mitigated the spread of the flu. The flu can be deadly it's just not as deadly as Covid.

@6:00 am

So you are now, at this late date, calling for the same universal mask mandate from this point forward, in light of the newly established 0 tolerance for any death from any virus?

Rt looks like it's on a upswing. Canton will be adding to the problem with it's upcoming Flea Market. Though Tate said no more than 50 at outdoor events. He needs to grow a set and declare a mask mandate until after the New Year and keep everything at 25-50% capacity. Only way to save the world, or at least slow the end of mankind.

Dr. Anonymous, Flu is just as deadly as Covid.

When will you clowns (covidiots) recognize the long term effects Covid is having on otherwise young and healthy individuals? Neurological issues, problems breathing long after “recovery,” heart problems. It’s not just a binary “you’re fine or you’re dead.” 200k dead so far, with 300k projected by the end of the year, and we’ve shut down the economy and issued mask mandates. With the flu, none of that happens and not nearly as many die in a year. Get your head out of your collective asses.

I'm constantly amazed that whenever Kingfish posts a COVID update story at the comments from people who seem to have no knowledge of the world outside of MS. @7:39 PM there is not a single location where cases continued to go up and up without a mask mandate. Tater's statewide mandate was not put in place until cases were already coming down. There are 16 states that never had one and none of them had their hospitals overrun. There are also many locations that have had mask mandates with almost 100% compliance that have the same pattern of infections as everywhere else.

Almost twice as many US children died from the flu in the 2017-2018 season as have died from COVID.

https://services.aap.org/en/pages/2019-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-infections/children-and-covid-19-state-level-data-report/
In 2020 there's been more children die from the flu in MS (2 as of May)than COVID.

If this was twitter some of these comments would be flagged.

yep...it was a Monday report

By the way KF, ask how many of the tests are repeat tests.

28 newly reported deaths today. Makes the numbers very incomparable when they aren't reported correctly every weekend. At least there's a chart showing the information by actual date of death. It has come down from its peak, but even with the improvements the Washington Post still has us at #1 for mortality rate over the past week.

And 11:06, Dr. Dobbs has already addressed your question. No matter how many times a person tests positive they are still only listed as one case in the total. Repeat tests don't skew the numbers.

Dr. Anonymous @7;48, COVID is much deadlier than the flu. The flu, even in the worst years, kills about 60,000 people. Most years are well below that.
Despite all the mitigation some of the concerned public has done, COVID has already killed more than triple that amount and will likely double again before a vaccine can be widely rolled out. Anyone saying COVID is no worse than the flu has got severe comprehension problems.

@9:21 am

The new IMHE model predicts 410,000 dead in the US by the end of the year, not 300,000. You need to get your fear porn facts straight.

As for 'long haul covid' symptoms, the most prominent member of that team is the esteemed actress of "me too" fame, Alyssa Milano. She reports horrible symptoms and her hair is falling out!! And she says she gets 'super scared sometimes'!! So this group will be distinguished by their shiny bald heads. We should wear a ribbon in their memory.

Overly sensitive tests and false positives are the issue. The over counting of 'cases' leads to over counting of deaths.

KF, as the usual Monday "low count" again didn't hold and we jumped to over 700 the days you didn't report this week so, we'll have another not very good week of cases and death once we add them all together.

Kingfish said...

Nice try. I am reporting the cases two to three days a week now. In case you didn't notice, I published three posts about the Gold Coast/Rebel story. That took a lot of time and a lot of reading. Sorry I wasn't able to cater to every desire. Of course, I don't see you on the Facebook pages of WLBT, WAPT, WJTV, and the CL bitching about their lack of coverage of that story.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
