Accused Child-Killer Back on Street

Bond for (allegedly) killing a 14 year-old in Hinds County is apparently only worth $150,000.

JPD arrested Stacey Liddell for murder last year.  WLBT reported on April 21, 2019:

The Jackson Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 14-year-old dead. The teenager was shot and killed just after 8 p.m. on Easter Sunday on Eminence Row near Revels Avenue.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart has identified the victim as 14-year-old Rodrick Johnson. Police arrested 41-year-old Stacy Lidell and charged him with murder. Officials say Lidell was taken into custody after a brief standoff.
Chief James Davis with the Jackson Police Department says that officers served an arrest warrant at the suspect’s home on Bishop Avenue shortly after the shooting. According to police, the shooting happened moments after an alleged theft that took place on the suspect’s property.  Lidell was denied bond at his initial court appearance. Police say that he fired his gun around multiple children, leading to the death of Rodrick Johnson.

Johnson was a student at Powell Middle School in Jackson. Article.
County Court Judge Johnny McDaniel denied bond to Liddell and bound him over to the Hinds County grand jury.  The grand jury indicted him in July 2019 for capital murder.  However, Circuit Judge Adrienne Wooten reversed Judge McDaniel and set bond at only $150,000.  She ordered him to wear ankle jewelry and placed him under curfew between 9 PM and 6 AM.

Liddell posted bond and is no longer in custody.

No surprise here -- kangaroo court, bounce them in, bounce them out. And the mayor still asks why there is so much crime...

You can’t keep people in jail indefinitely without a trial. It’s in the constitution, not that it matters any more to most of you.

Why don't you actually read the constitution. It specifically says murder suspects can be detained without bond. Liddell has been indicted. Murder suspects are considered to be a threat to society.

( ankle jewelry )
???

Did I read that correctly ?

Is there a standard schedule setting the amount of bond for a particular offence? Even a murder indictment? I think not. I could be wrong, but I thought the judge could consider the surrounding circumstances when setting bond. An indictment is not a conviction and many people protecting their lives and property will be indicted and later exonerated. Hasn't that happened even in Hinds County? Should such a person sit in jail because they were denied bond? Think about it.

I will never come within 100 miles of Jackson for the rest of my life.

Life is cheap in Hinds county.

"Waiting on the Fed takeover." May want to get yourself a good long book.

Wasn't this the same judge who not too long ago refused to increase a defendant's bond because she said it had been set by the county court, so only the county court could increase it? I may be misremembering this.

"Liddell posted bond and is no longer in custody. "

And will never be seen or heard from again.

Hey KF, innocent until proven guilty. That’s what our constitution says.

@8:26 PM - What article is that again? Help me out.

The biggest impediment to improvement in Hinds County is the Circuit Court. Until every single judge there is replaced, things will continue to get woese.

Hold on now! If the suspect were white, we'd celebrate what he did. Apparently the deceased (and others) were stealing shit from property owned by the suspect. Shots were fired into the air and ground and one of them struck and killed the 14 year old (who succumbed).

If it had happened up in Madison County, we'd be calling it defending his property and reacting to youthful thugs, right?

So his definition of the Castle Doctrine was a bit outside the law and he'll pay for it. But, a danger to society? Don't think so.

Was the kid in the air or in the ground when shot?

Any further violence the suspect commits is on Judge Wooten and she should be held personally responsible for those actions.

I guess the speedy trial part was removed from the constitution. Thanks for letting us know kingfish.

The 6th amendment has something to say there Kingfish. Might want to read the constitution.

Depends on where you are and what you do. Murder is treated much different than rape.

He may have to read the entire Library of Congress before that happens.

"Any further violence the suspect commits is on Judge Wooten and she should be held personally responsible for those actions." Love these folks that think Judges need to be held responsible for all actions by anyone seen before their bench and doing their job whether we agree with it or not. As there is no "Cook Book" bond amounts for crimes in MS, it is the Judge's prerogative. Sure she was taking his age and circumstances into consideration, again whether we agree or not. These types of situations will continue for a long time.

And you wonder why we have a crime problem in Jackson. Look at how many people are defending this crap.

Look at the low crime areas such as Rankin or Madison. Would a man indicted for killing a 14 year old even got a bond? Nope.

“ Look at the low crime areas such as Rankin or Madison. Would a man indicted for killing a 14 year old even got a bond?”

You didn’t provide enough information KF. What race is the shooter in this hypothetical and what is their net worth and political connection?

"Look at the low crime areas such as Rankin or Madison"

Go sit in circuit court on plea day during the criminal term and see if you believe Madison/Rankin have low crime.

Words Have Meaning said...

3:34 - The word 'low' is intentionally relative. Words such as 'low' only have value when comparing the nouns to which relate. Glad I could help. Stop back by.

I’m coming in on this too late , I live in Hinds County, Jackson, I know everything that happened almost first hand, I’m from the neighborhood but moved out and I always get the 411. Liddell never posted bond. He has been in jail the whole two years and is on trail now. But l feel sorry for the family of this young man… but the crime rate in Jackson is outrageous, and only getting worse. Most of the people committing crimes are these young men and women. So back to the Liddell case.. People in the neighborhood have been getting robbed, shot at for the last couple of years. Who knows and who cares how old they are. These young men out at 7, 8, 9 pm robbing people house.. on Easter Day, instead of with their parents at family gatherings, celebrating Rise of Jesus Christ from the dead. I’m sorry robber , let me see your I.D., I want to see how old you are so I won’t protect my property and my family. If you are underage I’ll give you a pass. No sir , no he didn’t chase them down the street.. I heard he never left his yard. But think about it.. if Stacy Liddell was WHITE…? Would their even be trail!!! Let me answer this HELL NO!!! Teach y’all children to stay the HELL OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE HOUSE TAKING WHAT IS NOT THEIRS!!! Work for your stuff.. I have children and I tell them now, if it ain’t yours and you can’t afford to buy it you don’t need it. Truth be told, I’m not checking IDS if they come in my house trying to take my stuff. Plus he had videos of the all robbing him house.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
