Mayor: Mask Up!

"We can shut you down."

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said he will require everyone to wear a mask when in public.  Citations will be issued for violations.  Mayor Lumumba said he is prepared to revoke the licenses of businesses who do not require customers and employees to wear masks. Executive orders implementing the new policy will be issued in the next few days.

The Mayor announces the new Covid-19 policies at 4:50.

This is totally unfair. We the people of Jackson should have been given notice so we could practice sliding a rib in one side of the mask and the bone out the other side.

He did a pretty good job with that "Press Conference" considering the blighted structure he was speaking to had no questions for him to answer and his prepared statement was blowing around in the street.

5.2 Million + dollars to repave, repair curb and gutter and add a sidewalk to that stretch of McDowell Rd. For comparison, in 1988 dollars, the project cost of all of I-55 between Meadowbrook Rd. and Canton Mart Rd. including the Meadowbrook bridge, the Old Canton Rd. flyover bridge, the Northside Dr. bridges and everything else in between from frontage road to frontage road was 31 million dollars.

From the Ivory Tower comes the true wisdom of our leader... So, as we try to run our business in Jackson, we spend our energies running off vagrants DAILY from our doors; being short handed due to unemployment abuse run wild; trying to keep our hardworking employees safe and healthy; and dealing with normal challenges that a business presents this DO NOTHING threatens us with removing our business license. Must be nice in the Kush Kingdom. We can only hope that the moving vans will one day magically appear and transport us to a suburb where business is truly welcomed and the local government is not run by a lightweight Socialist. All hail George Soros.

"The new policy will be issued in a few days". That gives his crack legal team time to deal with comments from real lawyers who will point out the folly of his Machiavellian Maneuvers.

This would never hold up in court. I guess he likes making laws that everyone already knows are illegal in nature. I'm betting those that are not lawyers could point to endless number of cases that just recently We're struck down. It's comical to hear chokwe. I went to grade school with him at st. Joe and he wasn't the brightest kid. Just a rich privlidged kid actually.

Need to make it clear that the mask should be worn COVERING the mouth and nose. Wearing the mask below the nose, or worse still, below the chin, is pointless.

Citizens: repair the streets.
Arrest criminals and keep them locked up.
Collect unpaid water bills.

so, we have hardly any officers on patrol in precinct 4. Blatantly Run a red light in from of JPD: no ticket. Wreckless driving down I-55, no ticket. Friday -Sunday crotch rockets down I-55, so frequent, you could set your watch to them: no effort, let alone ticket. Can't fix a pothole, waterline repairs left for years as a dirt hole, or only filled with limestone. Crime, businesses gone, ordinance enforcement no longer exists, vagrancy, homelessness......but you are going to give me a ticket for no face covering???? I'm almost done.

Where is the legal authority for citations (beyond some conjured magical executive order) this again? Notice also the fool standing behind him not wearing his mask properly. The problem with this is that nobody is trained on the proper use of PPE and wearing a mask improperly can do more harm that good because it provides a false sense of safety...

Also - love the freudian slip - "most invasive measures."

Choke-way should apply to be the warlord over the CHOP in Seattle, that's his kind of place!

poor Jackson. Their mayor is an idiot.

Fair is fair said...

They should repave streets based on taxes per neighborhood.

Anonymous at 12:07 AM,

That bold sidewalk and gutter you speak of is a People's sidewalk and gutter, thus, all of Their money possible had to be used to be on the Right Side of History or the street, by any means necessary.

Are state agencies located in the city of Jackson exempt from this? If not, he'll find plenty of violations in those.

Anonymous said...

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I would like to see this no nothing, do nothing panty waste try to take my business license. He better leave the few tax payers he has left alone.

Anonymous said...

He obviously received a D- in Constitutional Law 101.

Anonymous said...

Will the homeless be given citations for violating the mask requirement?

Defund the police. Lol.

I am glad I do not own commercial real estate in Jackson. This mayor seems determined to drive all business out of the city limits.

My business is in Jackson. I am "month to month" as I refuse to sign a lease. This mayor is truly awful. The scary thing is he may have designs on taking Bennie Thompson's spot when Representative Thompson retires.

I'm good with this since it doesn't apply to me. I don't go to Jackson anymore. Sorry Jeff Good, I do miss a few restaurants, but It's a small price to pay.

@6:06 AM fed up in Jackson said "Im almost done."

What's holding you back? You best get out while you still have something to get out. Your life!

First of all, most of the people that are commenting aren’t businesses owners lol.

Second, I’m happy this is being enforced. I wish the communities around us would take action. Yes Jackson obviously has problems but if we don’t try to curb this infection better, we are all screwed. Y’all don’t think your children are ready for you to die so they can get their inheritance, then you are a fool. If you don’t have to go out, please don’t. If you do, mask/cover your mouth and nose. It’s that simple. It’s uncomfortable and it sucks but that’s life sometime. Social Distancing still works.

@ 5:30 AM, or a mask dangling from one's ear. What a load of shit!!!

Why doesn't he also begin by putting up Jersey Barricades on all roads coming and going from Jackson? Has to leave I-55, I-20 and I-220 open, but also block those ramps into and out of the city. May help with a lot of things. Like to see them try to collect on whatever the fine is settled at.

Anonymous said...

He could start by wearing one himself. Hardly ever see the mayor wearing one.

@8:29
Chokwe lives in district 3 represented by Republican Micheal Guest!!! NE Jackson isn't represented by uncle Bennie.

It's been a while since I posted - busy times, but it's done - I moved my last piece of equipment out of the CHOP of the South (a.k.a. Jackson, MS) over the weekend and we are happily operating at full capacity in Rankin County!

And, with the money I'm saving in all manner of government harassment and revenue confiscation in Jackson, I've decided to pass the savings along to my employees (shhhh, they won't know it until they see it in their check this week).

Jackson - buh bye - I'm looking forward to not repairing vandalism every week, lower insurance rates and friendly/cooperative government.

9:38, we really believe you are a business owner....posting on a political blog in the middle of a business day.

@6:06 a.m. Amen! We have already begun the search in Madison. We love Fondren, but the voters are going to keep voting for idiots like Chokwe who couldn't run a lemonade stand, let alone a City, especially one with such needs as Jackson. I had high hopes for Chokwe(thought he had the brains and energy to do good) and chose to move to Jackson to help be a part of the solution of helping restore our State Capitol. It's obvious the voters here don't care about results.

Choker doesn't have anything better to do. Jackson City is running perfect except for the virus. Soon everybody in the world will be coming to Jackson.

Just kidding, Choker is just doing what is popular among Jackson city officials, contributing to the problem.

just had an altercation with an employee at Sprint Mart in Fondren a store i've gone to several times a week for 12 years. I walked in and was told I have to wear a mask and I asked why aren't you wearing one? all hell broke loose and they told me to leave. Little lion king is not doing Jackson any favors.

VP Pence and Sen. McConnell have changed their tune and are now advocating wearing a mask. Rep. McCarthy says wearing a mask is the best way to keep this economy open. Fox News hosts Steve Doocy and Sean Hannity are also urging people to wear masks.

If your idols are telling you to wear a mask, why won't you?

If y'all don't want people to think you are racists, you really ought not open your mouths.

It's fine to criticize an action and say specifically what the person did wrong and why it's wrong.

The name calling is juvenile at best and as someone whose white family has lived in the South since before Mississippi was even a State, I'm not fooled by your denials of racism.

And, for you pretend lawyers, I certain it's unconstitutional for you to harm another citizen by your neglience and ignorant and stupid is not a defense!

As far as I can see, while I don't agree completely on everything with Mayor Lumumba, he's the best we've had since Kane Ditto and better than the ones we've had since 1978 because they played political favoritism that should have been obvious to all of you!

@12:31
Regular folks already stopped caring whether or not you think we are racist. Now we are more concerned with protecting our families, our wealth, and our properties from the violent mob.

I was in a Jackson business yesterday, about the only business I visit in Jackson. I wasn't wearing a mask. One of the workers came by me and stopped to talk while putting on a mask. She was complaining about having to wear a mask when working outside.
When I was leaving the owner saw me and personally thanked me for stopping in. He wasn't wearing a mask and did not seem to worried that I was not wearing one. But I am not a Jackson citizen.

Very funny !!!!!!

Thank you 11:08

What is so hard about wearing a mask? If it helps just a little to slow the spread of the virus, it is worthwhile.

6/30, 11:08 Same here.

Went to Mcdade's Liquor/Maywood this afternoon after work. Counter person said I had to have a mask. Told him I didn't have one, to which he pulled one up quickly and handed it to me but I didn't put it on. Pulled my selection but at the counter the clerk said he wouldn't (couldn't?) sell to me unless I put it on... I pushed the bottles, and mask, back toward him and told him no... and I left. (No idea if mask had been used before...but really didn't matter - screw em.

Stopped at Ridgeland on the way home and made my purchase.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
